@srgamers Give CamStudio a try it's free as in "Free Beer" and "Free Speech" Open Source ffmpeg is like a multimedia swiss army knife. No reason to put your trust in anything that could proxy you into an enormous bot net. It compiles with free tools or choose the pre-compiled binary..
Would someone be able to help me please, I sort of like the look of this game but i'm not sure, but because dev's don't bother their arses with making demo's any more and I don't fancy acting like a pirate I wanted peoples opinions. Does this play like space empires V or Galatic Civ 2? Can you custom build your own ships and research tech? Do you pick what you build on your planets. Finally is it worth the £10 I'd have to pay for the full game? Thanks in advance.

Yes this looks very nice game but, if you have played homeworld then you may have a different opinion.
Homeworld feels much more-- how I can explain mmm real-time -3d ship moving physics; ships can go up down battles seam to be faster I could go on all day.
I am still waiting for the moment some developer will use the same engine as homeworld as it is still way ahead of its time for this type of game.

hmm, this is actually like civilization: space colonization. but the graphic is kind of bad compared to most games these days. i don't quite like the battle also. sins of the solar empire and homeworld 2 offer better combat experience. you may want to play it if you are really bored and have nothing else to do lol
Tbs ....space strategy Sword of the Stars is the best in my opinion and RTs space Homeworld 2 (Compex mode is nice) Sins of the Solar empire doesent give you that nice feel like Homeworld and neither Does this one Compared to Sword Of the Stars you should try them.
Wow great game! It totaly looks like Mass Effect 2 story with Crysis 2 graphics! Nice review, now i dont know what to choose between Dragon Age and this ...thing. They should've made this game on Google Earth's platform.
the guy your'e thinking of is Mr Robert T. Smith. Worked on the AI for pretty much all the Total War games, and he goes all the way back to the Spectrum and Commodore 64 market in the 80's. The first game I bought that he programmed was a Battle of the Bulge game by a company called McLothlorien the game was just called 'The Bulge'!
It's a stripped down Galactic Civ 2. Graphics suck, fairly easy learning curve, lots of races to play, limited map customization, laptop friendly. Plays like a flash game. Feels like this game came out 10 years too late.
Isn't even in the same galaxy as Sins, Galactic Civ 2, Company of heroes or any other 4x strategy.
5/10, for 10 bucks, you can do a lot worse, but not by much.
This game is only a must own if you're in prison and it's the only game the warden will let you play. It's so broken and ugly it's not even funny. As much fun as a fart is a space suit.
well...the game certainly lacks atmosphere...no random events...no secrets to discover..no anomalies to check...no wrecks of old spacecraft...to few techs which developes to fast and does not give enough room for strategic decisions...not enough different buildings to develope colonies in a more sophistic way...just to mention a few points...even Galactic Civilization I has done better in this areas and this is yeeeeears ago.
Go to Impulse and look up for THEIR surveys, acording to them even games built with multiplayer in mind (Demigod, Sins of a Solar) are seldomly played online and more frequently played offline, then again, you dont like it dont buy it, GalCiv2 didnt came with multiplayer, and I didnt miss it one bit, especially when the AI was so efficient.
I'm going to buy this. Also, if you like 4x games, you should try the ultimate edition of Sword ot the Stars (Make sure to get the expansions, otherwise it isn't worth it). Very cheap on Impulse and I was surprised by just how great it is. Its much better than GalCiv2 and a lot of the newer 4x games. Not quite MOO 2 though.
Ok, are there planet killers and then its counterpart planet builders? Im a fan of the Moo2 and even 3 (i was one of the few that enjoyed it i guess).
lol i love your signature/company logo at the end.
in the sense that if you develop the tech far enough you can get an ark that WILL develop a colony even in a barren irradiated dry and airless system with zero planets lol. and OH yeah you can also develop ship that can hurl complete asteroids ata aplanet and devastates it. and ship thats can render a whole system usless or dead.
What's more, I find your comparison with this game and "The Witcher" and "Dragon Age" with respect to multiplayer as being ridiculous. Surely you can see a big difference between a single player fantasy RPG and a 4x space game. A scripted story based RPG is VERY different than an open-ended 4x game.
Frankly, if you have to ask why a 4x space game shouldn't be a single player game in comparison with a story driven RPG, then I question your competence in giving PC game reviews.
If you don't like the lack of Multiplayer then don't buy!, frankly, when I played MOO 2, I had time to sit down and play a multiplayer game with buddies, but as I got older, I just don't have that time, games don't have to have Multiplayer, case in point look at Wolfenstein, the newest one, it's a great Single Player experience but Multiplayer is thrown in there for people like you who love to whine & complain, and the end result is a very bad Multiplayer experience.
I'm not going to buy the game, and neither are three of my friends who were initially interested in this game. I wonder how many others passed up on the title for exactly that reason?
Games don't HAVE to have multiplayer, but then, we don't HAVE to buy them, do we? That's a huge market to just throw away these days, not to mention a game's long term viability. Wolfenstein's multiplayer is an example of why you never just throw something into a game, not why it's okay to leave it out.
What surveys? Can you quote your source? Most turn based games I own have full multiplayer capability. It's extremely rare to find a game without multiplayer.
How much money has to be lost before it becomes a "big loss"? Can you honestly look at the number of people playing purely multiplayer games and say that isn't a market worth considering?
For $40, I expect more. It doesn't even look like you can customize a race in this game.
@Daedalus732 A majority of games with multiplayer don't have anybody playing them within three or so months. That development time and cost could've went towards making the part of the game which won't become obsolete better. Not every game, and I would say most games, do not need multiplayer.
@wolverine005 Not really, since apparently he's an idiot and a product of the age of Xbox Live and whatnot where people think every single game has to have some kind of multiplayer component to be viable. The point is, and one that I think srgamers made pretty clear, is that if you're one of those kind that HAVE to have multiplayer, then this game isn't for you and go find a game that does have it. Don't be a douche about it just because a game doesn't meet your personal specifications.
Wow!!!! What an unbelievably useful critique of the reviewer. That's it folks. Daedalus just shut down this thread. Everybody move on. Srgamers, you should go back to night school so you can become competent enough to satisfy Daedalus's expectations.
Imagine a world where you took your time to post a video review for millions of strangers out of the kindness of your own heart and you are thanked by being called incompetent.

I'm really disappointed by your lack of criticism for the game's non-existent multiplayer. You say you're a MOO2 veteran, but even MOO2 had multiplayer options, and that was back in the day when playing multiplayer meant playing over 56k modems or using null modem cables. It's an unforgivable sin in this day and age that a game lacks a multiplayer aspect. For shame.
You also seem to gloss over the total lack of customization. Again, even MOO2 had ship customization, and that was back in 1992!
Good review! Answers a lot of questions about this game I was wondering about. At first I thought more of a sins of a solar empire game, now i realize its more of master of orion. I will have to get it.
