I love this tutorial!! This is a good idea to use on lipsticks that have been used up already but still have some left when scooped out. I see this saving me a trip to the store to replace a shade and saving me some money. Thanks!!
Regarding my previous comment on how to make water/oil proof labels:
This is my own little invention; I didn't learn it from anyone. I used to sell my own makeup and wanted an affordable professional looking water/oil proof label without having to spend a fortune having them made. Doing it the way I do it, it costs less than a penny per label and it is decent enough of a label to use on product you sell.
You are such a sweetie! I've learned *so* much from you!
I have a trick I'd like to share w/ you. You can make oil proof labels with a any kind of label sheet and some clear shiny packing tape. Print the label out with a black background & white font--the black background exceeding the border of your label you will cut out. Put the clear tape over the label carefully. Finally cut out the label any way you like. Now you can use this label & get it greasy then just wipe it off :) Enjoy!
@carramelo18 I wouldnt heat it up in the microwave, your not supposed to put metals in a microwave and also its more difficult to ocntrol the teprature you need to keep it moving so it doesnt burn or boil
After I saw this "how to"... I tried melting together 3 different lipsticks 'cause I didn't like their colors... but now it's a really nice color that works for me way better than any of them before.. :D
Oh My God, that is sooo cool! I used to just mix lipsticks with vaseline and melt them and do the some thing but the colors werent very intense, I dint think of not having any vaseline in it, I am sooo gunna try this!
i have a question. when you r in the melting stage, can you add any kind of flavouring to the lip stick? but so that the mixture wont change in looks or anything it will just have a nice flavour to it now. can u do that?
seems like you wud get a lot of product wastage wen u melt it cuz of the leftovers in the melting cup.....good idea tho for lipstick left in the bootom of the tube
That's what I thought so I just melt mine straight from the tube to the pot with my blow dryer. Once it's in the pot I tap it on the counter to remove any air bubbles.
This is such a fantastic idea Koren!! I have several lipsticks that are a mess thanks to my two year old, and was wondering how I would go about depotting them. Thank you so much for the easy step-by-step instructions! You're such a great guy to have "around"!
I have a friend that's going away to boarding school (art school) and I really wanted to get her something to show her how proud I am of her. So I emptied out a Crayola paint palette and filled one side with eyeshadows that go w/ her eye color and make great smokey eyes.I didn't know what to do w/ the other side until I watched this. Thanks so much Koren and keep up the GREAT work!
wow, the lip stick is so smooth! when i tryed making my own lip balm, it was not ery smooth and clean edged. :(. well, great tutorial, i think i will try this some time
hi, i'm just wondering does it change the chemistry of the lipstick to heat it at all? i know the colours change but i've also heard it can affect the emulsifiers and make it not last as long. do you know anything about this? thanks!
i do this lipstick melting only whn i have a lipstick frm MAC, dat is crap...dat i dont like much....then it goes for B2M...n i dont feel guilty of wasting money!!!! i never use those...its just to feel beter...lol!!!!
Hi Koren! First, thanks for all of your vids, and I hope you are back to 100% or getting there. Don't know if you are still monitoring this thread. Would you consider doing a follow up tut demo-ing how to transform lipsticks with this technique into potted glosses. I have colors that I don't like as dark or intense as they are as lipsticks, but they might look a lot better as more translucent glosses. Some are estee and clinique colors so i don't want to toss them.
No, eyeliners are wax based, and gel liners are gel based. So regular eyeliners will just melt ad solidify, muck like chapstick consistency, so you will not be able to apply it like gel liners would.
can i use this method to melt a stick concealer (that comes in like a lipstick form) and melt it..also..can i melt two different shades like a llight and dark to get me desired shade..i find that the cream concealer is to thick for undereye..and i would like it to be more liquidy..what can i add to it??pls help...suffering for years..and down here..mac doesnt carry darker shade concealers.:(
hey Mokam - yes you can, BUT do SLOW melt and make to not reach a boil. Mix 2 shades until you get your desired color. Let it completely cool to set and mold again, do not refrigerate tho. To make it a little more liquidy, you can add Vitamin E - you can use the Gelcap ones and just pierce and squeeze one into your mixture.
One Brand is Avon, One is Revlon, and one is lancome. I don't know if the ingredients from all three reacted (badly) somehow?!!? I will try with just one lipstick next time! :)
When I tried this, I melted a little bit of three different lipsticks together to get my desired color. I tried to melt it, but it wouldn't melt into a liquid form- it was still very creamy! With that said, It wouldn't go smoothly into my container, and I had to scoop it in... It looks horrible! Any suggestions? I don't know what I did wrong!
hey Shiela - I havent notice any changes so. The only one is a glittered lipstick, when I melted, of course all the glitters sinks to the bottom. SO I learned that with glittered lipsticks you have to keep stirring until it starts to thicken again as it cools so that the sparkles are evenly distributed when it completely hardens.
Joann fabric and craft store have the pots(not very expensive) like 3 dollars for 4 or 6 of them. They also have lip balm and scents and flavors to add when they are melted. I used to melt the lip balm and add the lipstick for color and then add a scent and give to my friends as gifts.
(it took me 5 mins to re-find this video from the other day) I did this today and realized I didn't loose that much after pouring and not scraping the residue. I just kept the cup tilted more to one side than the other, and tried not to swirl it around TOO much. I think there was maybe one or two applications of residue leftover. Thanks EnKore, I think I am addicted to your videos now.
yeah you can definitely let all the products drip to the last drop - or sometimes I use a silicone non stick mini spatula to scrape everything into the jar.
haha, i have that pen. oh and i see there's still a lot of lipstick left back in the pan. what i normally do is just put the lipstick directly into the pot and melt it with a hairdryer. it works great and it's not as messy. to dry i put the hair dryer on the cool setting. it turns out just as great.
this is really cool and helpful but I already did this to a bunch of low lipsticks of mine in the microwave maybe about a year ago...I got great results...they travel so well esp. in stackables...keep up the tuts.

warming it to melt doesnt change, its bringing it to boil does - much lime any mixture really, once it boils it changes. So dont let it reach a boil.

concealers are softer, you can easily melt it on to a pot using a hairdryer. Again, key is you dont want to bring it to a boil.
