  • OMFG ive been searching macbook air this whole time and I just happen to see this... This changes everything!! I'm defenitely getting this... Even though my school says only macs... I'll get a hackintosh IDC i just want this pc :D

  • como se llama la melodia ! por favorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • MARKETING BULLSHIT

  • up to 8 hr or LL which is 16 hr

  • Mines actually came with the sword!

  • I wonder how long the battery life is, the only problem I have with my current vaio is the battery life...

  • @JustFromage

    up to 8h

  • I'll sell my Imac desktop and purchase this product!

  • I must get this!!!!!!

  • WOW

  • It has taken apple 2 tries to get their macbook air thinner than the vaio x. And they failed_ miserably, twice!

I wonder if Sony can incorporate a faster processor into the next vaio x.. or at least a better battery, current one drains quick when connected to Verizon..

  • @bmw2go11 This Vaio X is a sweet piece of kit. I like it quite a bit...just might pick one up too. It doesn't even come close to the Air though. The MBA C2D is approximately 3 times as powerful as the Atom 2.0GHz Z550 the X has. Also the RAM maxes out at 2GB, and it is only DDR2. It also has a much slower front side bus (FSB) 533MHz vs. 800MHz. And this is against the 11.6 inch MBA. The Vaio X is a netbook, the MBA is not.

Anywho.....I think I'm still gonna grab a X cuz it is pretty cool.

  • @MikeDaFuckinMouse x series is old and was discontinued. Y series replaced it and has just as good of specs as MBA, if not better. look into that.

  • @bmw2go11 Sorry, the Sony has Intel GMA video while the MBA has a custom built nVidia 320M. Again, the performance difference is lightyears between the two. Not a fanboi, or a basher as I have many different computers, but Apple didn't "fail" here. If you were to count it up....SONY "failed"....again. But these are not direct competitors...netbook (Sony) vs ultra portable (MBA).

  • What about the fan noise???

  • This is so awesome that i'm gonna JIZZ IN MY PANTS!

  • I love!

  • i love mac, im a big apple fan but my god is this thing light, and looks amazing while doing it

  • if only it didnt have windows on it!! some1 should really make another os...

  • Apple just goes for the style, not the important things. This too me looks actually more thicker than MacBook Air, because it looks like paper, but this thing beats it to everything. It has outstanding power while it's a much more lighter and thinner laptop.

  • the world would be perfect if the vaio x could run osx

  • @shoomness uhm i think it s possible

  • I WANT IT! :D

  • LOVE IT !

  • sony is the best

  • I agree, there awesome

  • no way i'm gonna buy this thing. it's a netbook twice the price of an all in one pc

  • its fragile you drop it it breaks instantly

  • Drop you're laptop and let's see if it doesn't break.

Stop saying that it'll break if it falls, FYI, any good laptop now bricks whenever it falls. It's a recovery thingy in order to recover your data from the memory.

  • your fragile i shoot you you die instantly

  • @joesee dont tell me u actually tried BREAKING it??

  • mỏng wa troi lun

  • It's NOT to expensive, but it lacks RAM and graphic power (to show 720p and 1080p).

The design is marvellous. ...robust, simple, beautiful (especially in plain -not carbon- black & brown), with it's fine details like the invert edge, with it's thinness and pure & simple form.

I would adore (and pay 3k) for it with more power within.

PS: What about a big brother to the X11: A vaio X13 with a 13.1" screen (same screen as the new Z with fullHD but without the internal optical drive)?!

  • a great 2nd vaio to have but why so expensive Sony?!?!?!

  • @ihateyaacov

Why throw that in? This is PC we are talking about.. no point in comparing to a complete different platform, even though the vaio x is twice as light as the macbook air, has ethernet, and SD slot, which macbook air doesnt.. and has great battery life considering its weight.

  • This one is thinner xD

  • have the air sucks dick and IM A MAC USER to the MAX i havee 4 imacs and 2 macbook pro....only one that failed was AIR

  • Unless you're pointing at the vaio x sporting a sleek design, I'm not sure I follow. Electronics manufacturer tries to make their product as portable as possible. News at 11.

  • As a business man, you don't need a DVD drive =)) since most of the time, you have USB

  • does it ave a cd drive

  • course not

  • no

    who need one?

  • youtube now let's you select 1080p...W00T!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • impressive...

  • no dvd drive!?

  • yes no drive

  • @TABUSINTACBOY This is an Atom clocked 2Ghz, you get 2GB of DDR2, you also have a GMA500 and Windows 7... this is much more capable than a standard netbook, yet it's so much thinner.

  • I'm a mac fan but sony really does make some awesome pcs.

  • @bilancio same here. . i was on Vaios before switching to Mac. . But, i've got no qualms about Sony Vaios' awesomeness. . :D

  • @bilancio I thibnk they male beter commercials for those pcs than actual pcs

  • I think as long potential buyers are aware this machine has an Intel Atom CPU and Intel GMA500 graphics, which where intended for netbooks and have netbook performance. They will be OK with it, but don't expect anything more.

For those needing real laptop performance. I would suggest possibly something like a Vaio Z, with it's much more powerful Core 2 Duo processor.

  • ya i agree

  • i would perfer that way more than a macbook .

  • I wish so bad that it had a CULV instead of a 2ghz Atom.

  • why should I buy it? Just because it is thin or what? It has no optical drive so you won't be able to put the CD at all, not even talking about DVD or Blu Ray playback. No CD, DVD, or BD-Rom is available. It has also no HDMI. other technical specifications are very poor too. so what's the point of buying this.

  • well sooner or later Optical drives will be extinct with higher density, smaller sized, lower priced Memory sticks...which would b able to hold 3-4 BD equivalend DVDs...just hold on for 2-3 yrs.! after all world is a smaller place...!

  • Please help me decide between this and a MacBook Air!

  • the screen on this thing is only 11.1 as compared to 13.3 in air....moreover it is having an atom processor as compared to core 2 duo in air...otherwise vaio x is a better choice because of its lightweight (1.6 lbs) and carbon fiber body..its also cheaper...set your priorities ( like what all you gonna do on it ) and then decide b/w the two ... if you are planning to use it as a net book then there is no reason going for macbook air

p.s- this thing has a 14 hrs battery life compared to 5 on air.

  • Well this has a much slower Intel Atom netbook CPU and the Air has a Core 2 Duo CPU. So you decide. :)

There is also the ultra thin lightweight Dell Adamo which also has a Core 2 Duo CPU.

  • Ooh, awesome find! Yeah, I'm looking for a laptop that is slim, light weight, has power, and Windows. This Dell Adamo looks interesting. I'll take a look at it. Haven't owned a Dell before so I'll do a lot of research on it :)

  • Oh I think the Adamo is a beautiful machine, it just seems so right. Just wish I could afford one. :/ We've got a Dell laptop in the house here, but it's quite a large XPS. 2 years old, very well made, and still working just fine.

BTW I do have a Vaio P running Windows 7 as well, which has the same CPU and graphics as the Vaio X. But of course this is a pocket sized UMPC, and use it as such accepting it's limited netbook like performance.

  • well if ur area of work is graphics, multimedia, video editing choose mac...trust me they still have an upper hand on there software packages. if ur r a student, use ur notebook for studies, surfing internet to any extent, programmer, business presentations ofcourse go on for vaio X series or even the vaio Z!

  • Please let me know if there's a cd reader (?) included cuz the MacBook Air doesn't

  • no, it doesn't!

  • Okay , Thanks anyway . Is there any super slim one's that does ?

  • Not really, certainly nothing this thin. A mechanical DVD drive takes up space. A DVD drive is probably the thickest component in modern laptops.

BTW I've managed with a couple of laptops which don't have DVD drives just fine. I keep one DVD drive for ripping movies, but that's about it.

  • This vaio is thinner than a MacBook Air and comes with two batteries. One 2 hour battery and one 14 hour battery... 14 HOUR BATTERY!

    gimme gimme gimme

  • its 14 hrs and 3.5 hrs

  • i was just trying to be realistic about it. Im sure those numbers are from just the computer being on and not being used normally by a user.

  • why couldn't they give it an nvidia ion graphics card like the hp 311?

  • simply a piece of art. (tears)

  • @tipoo:

I doubt your laptop is as thin as this, its battery life is 14 hours and weights 700grams just as rumored, also for almost everyone, students, regular use, word etc Atom is a great processor, also for me it's much better than the macbook air in my opinion.

PD: Proudly owner of a Vaio SR 430 with I paid 1300 for :D

  • Damn this ad is freaking awesome!

  • dell adamo XPS power!

  • The day I pay over 1300 dollars for any computer that is less powerfull than my FREAKING SEVEN YEAR OLD ATHLON XP...Feel free to kick me in the balls. Hard.

Seriously, at that price an Intel Atom is just unacceptable.

  • The Z550 is pretty badass.

I'm running a netbook with the slower N280 and it doesn't miss a beat.

  • I expect your netbook cost something like four or five times less than the Vaio X.

BTW I've got a Vaio P UMPC, which was about half the cost of the X, yet it has the same CPU, RAM and graphics as the X.

I guess someone might buy this ultra thin expensive boutique 'laptop' which has netbook or UMPC like performance. But I seriously think Sony is going to have a hard time trying to sell the X. Probably to Sony addicts which have more money than sense.

  • They're obviously going after the 'quality of quantity' crowd. Macs are twice the price of comparable pcs but still sell like hot cakes.

  • That maybe so. But it's still got the guts of NETBOOK and will perform like a NETBOOK. Which means web surfing and basic office tasks, but that's about it. No video editing, no gaming, it will even choke out on playing HD Flash video.

It's like having that sleek expensive sports car, but it's only got the engine of a moped. All I see is a lot of disappointed buyers, and a lot of returns to Sony.

BTW Apple does not makes PCs as slow as the Vaio X

  • You're mistaken on the performance of this machine. I am currently using a MUCH less powerful netbook than the X and it handles HD video just fine, as long as I have a decent internet connection.

Video and gaming? You're pretty much saying it does't have a powerful graphics card. And you're correct, it does not. If thats all you want your computer to do than go build a desktop. Sony is generally not interested in the pc gaming market being that it competes with the playstation.

  • Your netbook is not much less powerful at all. They both have single core Atom CPUs, although the X has more RAM.

The real problem though lies with the GMA500 graphics which the X has. There are serious performances issues with this and even Intel admits it.

Quotes from the Intel site about the current state of their GMA500 driver:

'Tearing and frame drops when playing video with YouTube'

'Tearing and frame drops when playing video with Hulu'

'Frame drops noticeable in certain DVDs titles'

  • ...continued...

FYI I do have a Vaio P which has exactly the same Atom 'Silverthorne' CPU, GMA500 and 2GB RAM architecture that the X has. I know what the performance is like on this.

Your netbook most likely has GMA950 graphics. This handles Flash video no problems at all.

Problem with GMA500, Intel bought the core in from Imagination Technologies, and the drivers are provided by another third party Tungsten Graphics. Who so far have failed to deliver on promised performance.

  • Being that you said you paid almost half the price of the X, you don't have the z550, you probably have the baseline z520, a MUCH slower processor. That also means that you don't have a solid state HD. And unless you literally JUST purchased it, you are running vista. Faster processor + faster hard drive + faster OS = faster computer. I'm surprised you even purchased the P. I forget that the majority of people are only interested in playing games and watching movies on their computers. Oh well.

  • It'a actually a 1.6GHZ Z530 in my P, which I regularly overclock to 2GHz, depending on what I'm doing. So when It's overlocked the speed is the same as the Z. It used to have the 1.8inch Ipod hard drive in it, but changed that to a 128GB Runcore SSD. It did come with Vista but I wiped that out, and put Windows 7 RT M on it.

As to why I purchased the P,and made some improvements to it I find it's so useful having a pocket-sized UMPC on me at all times. And just use it as a UMPC.

  • ...continued...

As I said before, the main problem is the less than optimal GMA500 (PowerVR SGX) graphics, everything else in the X is just fine. As Intel are aware, the GMA500 even drops frames when playing YouTube , Hulu and Iplayer Flash videos. This happens on Windows 7 as well as Vista. I find this to be totally unacceptable in an 11 inch laptop. On a Vaio UMPC I don't find it a problem, because I don't watch YouTube or Iplayer on here.

  • Here is a question for you.

As a registered YouTube user, would you buy a laptop which couldn't play YouTube videos correctly, without tearing, jerking and dropping frames?

This is any machine which uses GMA500 including the Vaio X, with the current drivers.

  • i need source on this song!!! it's really good.

  • the screen is thin and easy bends

  • She's a beauty!

  • They're actually saying that it'll be shipped with Intel's new ULV dual cored processors designed for newer ultra-thin laptops. I really hope they don't put the atom in it though, it just looks too nice for one. :(

  • OS stands for Operating System, so the only error would be the use of a capital s.

As for the Mac vs. PC arguments. Even if you've used both, how are you to say either is unsuitable for someone you do not know? Both systems have their cons and pros.

Now being more relevant to the vid:

It looks good, but I could not see a HDMI port. If it doesn't have one, this nice product would have to be scratched from my list.

  • What.."both systems" you mean both OS's you stupid wannabe.

Mac sucks balls, the only thing useful is the photo/video editing software.

  • lmao,,haha that so true..i got a mac air that all i use it for...cost me extra for external drive..i think sony would make a bad ass Tablet..

  • I'm sorry, did you say something? I can't read your comment it appears to be hidden behind fail.

  • I am with you! I want it!!! MBA looks stupid compare to this one!!!

  • LILF

  • This makes a mac look fugly.

    I'm gonna fap to this.

  • @thepcdude

Uh, in a beautiful promo video, a turd could look appealing.

  • holy crap, i saw a vga???

  • Wow. That's as sexy as a Mac.

  • WOW, only 700 grams for a netbook. This is wonderfu l!!!

    .

  • wow i really do like this vid :) If i didn't have my laptop currently or was looking for a smaller one i would def go and check this out more!

  • I'm in love.

  • i like the music :P

  • no hdmi?????? fail..

  • thats pretty true actually

  • might actually make sense because it could have an atom and have no way to handle hdmi, which is just a different kind of fail (considering this thing will be priced like a sony, and definitely higher than their kind of overpriced vaio W)

  • even atom can handle hdmi just fine, even 1080p, if combined with the ION-platform.

  • vga? gtfo.

  • Very Cool!!!

  • What a gorgeous design! I just hope its priced as competitive^^
