@EGMAG i know for dogs with large ears like chihuahuas they have larger ear canals and it's not good to get lots of water inside...i let my chi swim at the beach dogs don't usually put their heads under the water. He's always been okay :) i just have to be careful when i give him a bath.

Plus dogs have an innate ability to swim, they don't have to be taught, like cats, it comes naturally. Humans are one the only species that have to be taught to swim.

Further to that.. what if he jumps in that pool when no one is there because hes been in before. And then cannot get out....

My dogs love swimming - at the beach - they paddle around a bit and head for the shore. I would never pick them up and put them in the water if they were too scared or didn't want to.
