  • Easy solution to salvage the 1000 dollars. Give Sgt. Sarah $500 for her charity to fly to Havanna ,problem solved !

  • marlon brando in my bed now!

  • Brando may not have been a singer, but he's brilliant with this monologue.

  • 1:42

"polka dots... in the whole world, nobody but Nathan Detroit couldn't blow a thousand bucks on polka dots..."

Nobody could EVER make polka dots sound more awesome then this guy right here!

  • hm, now honored to have the same name as marlon brando in this movie (first name only, but to have something in common with such a legend is awesome ;D) and it also makes me happy, because im 14 and love frank sinatra and dean martin and Sam d jr, and stuff like that.

  • we did this on my junior year in high school...but idk if we did this scene or not

  • i love the way marlon brando talks

  • they made a wise choice with where they place sinatra and brando.

  • 5 people got cider in their ear.

  • i love both of these men. yum.

  • frank sinatras a god..polkadots <3

  • Does anyone get a Chuck Bass vibe from Marlon?

Maybe that's who Ed Wetwick based him on...

  • Haha. I played Nathan in middle school, I loved doing this scene haha. It was so much fun.

  • Anyone else get taste of Vito Corleone in Brandos portrayal of Sky?

  • @crosschek4 Yes. I noticed it immediately.

  • hahaha that made me laugh " daddy, i got cider in my ear", brando is a class actor :)

  • Now if only Brando could sing...

  • classic

  • shit brando is slick

  • Does anyone else get reminded of Ed Westwick's Chuck Bass? From Gossip Girl? I swear Chuck is a copy of Sky Masterson. Do they look alike or am I going mad?

  • @gossipfaces I loooove Gossip Girl! BUT Bass is nothing compared to Sky. :)))

  • @gossipfaces he does but Marlon is waaayyyy sexier :p

  • Why cider?

  • This scene is legend

  • you make me hot for cock

  • Ah, sage advice indeed. Good dad.

  • And of course to earn a couple of bucks before he made it, he was the cheesecake to many a gentleman....it's true...just like Cary Grant.

  • Why is everyone so obsessed with Marlon Brando?

  • @SpartanXLVIII Because before he started looking like Jabba the Hutt, Marlon Brando was smoking goddamned hot.

  • @SpartanXLVIII Cause he was hot in his prime.

  • @SpartanXLVIII I don't get his appeal either :S Butterface tbh.....

  • this show is downright genius...im playing benny southstreet(and understudy for sky) in my city's production of g'n'd this year...gonna be sweet..plus a good friend of mine is playing nicely...so im lookin forward to it :)

  • @beavertime I am Benny as well! :D

  • Ha! Isn't that Marlon's own attitude toward women, that they're just something to have around when they come in handy? That's how he really saw women: Easily replaced and none was a unique, valuable person worthy of being cherished. So sad that such a sexy man treated women so unkindly.

  • Sexy Brando !

  • i can so quote this scene! lol

  • my community theatre is doing it and my and my friend play the pickpockets and big jules body gards

  • cant stop watching marlon brando....

  • Im Nathan Detroit in my school play :D

  • Lol im playing sky in my school.

  • I love this movie, my school is putting on this play and I play Nathan Detroit. I am a future actor.

  • @Futureoffall i wish they were doin dis at my skool, i wanna be sky

  • If my school were doing it, I'd be Adelaide, but my school doesn't have enough students to put on such a play as this.

  • same here buddy, future actor too (sky masterson hopefully [final major performance for course])

  • I love that Damon Runyon dialogue with no contractions.

  • Brando is sexy as hell

  • lol My boyfriend played Nathan Detroit in his school play last month. =)

  • no its not, brando just doesnt use contractions as often. Its all, "i will not" "i will tell you" "i am sorry i am not able to bank roll you" etc.

  • @cubster18 it's a choice in the script, for all the characers..

  • its just the way broadway gangsters spoke :) its the same in kiss me kate, they had that heavy accent but spoke with outrageously proper grammar, it's a stylistic thing

  • The dialogue is really Shakesperian

  • Great scene from one of the greatest musicals. I've heard the debate about who should have got what part for years, but I think the casting was perfect. Sinatra was great as Detroit and Brando magnificent as Sky. End of story.

  • Ugh.... they're both talented and gorgeous, particularly in this scene

  • This is oneof my favourte scenes.

  • Dadday....I got cida in my eah.

  • boho

  • This scene, among many others, shows why the casting of Brando and Sinatra made the movie such a classic.

Conventional wisdom was to put Sinatra as Sky. He could definitely sing better than Brando (there were songs from the Broadway play cut from the film because Brando simply couldnt sing them), but in sheer smooth, cool presence, I cant think of too many actors that could outdo Brando at the time.

  • Btw, I thought Sinatra was excellent as Detroit. He brought an understated humor and vulnerability to the role.

The casting for both roles was a stroke of genius if ya ask me. :-)

  • *giggle* "Daddy... I got cider in my ear" *giggle, giggle*

Thanks for posting. One of mt favorite scenes. ;)

  • Aww Marlin Brando and Frank Sinatra...can't get a better looking pair!

  • too bad backstage they didnt like eachother too well

  • before the shooting of the film Sinatra had auditioned for the role of Terry Malloy in On The Waterfront....he was angry when Brando got it. But I couldn't have seena anyone else playing it but Brando

  • polkadots

  • I absolutely love this movie. The cider scene is most certainly one of my most favorites.

  • The Federal Reserve Board members should be required to watch this video every morning.

  • is there any way to watch this movie online?

  • i watched this play and the "dady, i've got cider in my ear" was my fav line! thank you for posting this!

  • love this movie!

  • The advice in this scene is great...

  • i got nathan at my school!!!! haha!!!

  • I got Sarah at school so HA HA HA! By the way my name is Michelle Lee!

  • Comment removed

  • we did auditions for this and i think i got nathan :D also "Daddy, i got cider in my ear" haha classic

  • Thank you for posting this. I was trying to make a point to a friend about being scammed, and I wanted to show her the cider in the ear speech. Sure enough, it took all of eight seconds to track down.

You might have started it when Nathan first sat at the table though, if you wanted the full impact of the scene.

  • Benny: Maybe that's why they told us they sell more strudel than cheesecake.

    Nathan: [head in hands, groans]

  • Marlon..what a hero

  • Brando was highly underrated in this film. He was GREAT!

  • Sinatra may one yummy piece of strudel, but Marlon is DEFINITELY the cheesecake.

  • hahaaa! that's really funny :D

  • What if he can? and some would argue he shouldnt do it just like brando did, But he can and He has. Thats why he got into acting in the first place, I was just wondering if anyone would want to see that. Its better than just some other guy on broadway doing it which by the way they are about to perfom this on broadway soon AGAIN!

  • This is CLASS xx

  • daddy. i got cider in my ear

  • I love how he says it, too.

  • i love this play this is the best version there is.

  • Just because he "looks" like him does not mean he can remotely act like Brando...

  • He should join NAMBLA. North American Marlon Brando Look-Alikes

  • @workingclass07 Someone else posted a while back that someone should join NAMBLA- North American Marlon Brando Lookalikes. Actually, back in the fiftties a lot of guys got seen because they looked like him- Burt Reynolds and John Saxon to name two. Saxon always sounded like Brando as Sky-except when he played a Mexican bandit opposite Brando in The Appalosa. Reynolds did a Twilight Zone as Brando-seen on this site.

  • *looks up to sky* "Daddy, I got cider in my ear." Hahaha, love Marlon in this scene.

  • love this scene! marlon was an incredible man

  • This is probably my favorite scene from the movie. And ohmygoodness, I love Marlon Brando! He was so charming in this movie...

  • what is that characters name that falls in love with adelaide?
