oh yes, this is jazz at its finest. there may be a score (only to highlight places where he may need to accent) but, as in 99% of all jazz music, there are some written music measures....but there are definitely some improv measures. jazz is like a person telling a story based off of a particular tune. and these guys are telling one heck of a story!!

By the way, Kenny Drew Jr. has unreal technique and the jazz pedigree to know how to use it properly. Clarence Penn is a beast, and possibly the most musical drummer I've ever heard. That's saying a lot, because I've heard and played with great stick men. And the bass is kicking also! Great post and I can't wait to see more!

I've been listening to him ever since I was exposed to his work with the Maria Schneider's Big Band Orchestra where he's is a regular. He's just brilliant on Choro Dancado :)
