i beg to disagree with this vid. the breech that was detected on earth's magnetic field poses the greatest risk for humankind. if technology is at risk, then people's lives is at risk, for we depend so much on it. absence of technology (elec. grid, computerized water system,etc. etc.) is tantamount to millions of death worldwide. nations that aren't so dependent on it will survive.
The truth is NASA doesn't really know. At one point they said it would not be that big then later they said it could be really big and now the Sun seems to be tapering off earlier than expected. At the same time there seems to be a new particle being emitted from the sun that is causing an increase in the radioactive decay rate of carbon - something previously thought impossible. Scientist don't know what to make of the Sun right now. It's acting a little crazy.
While your statement is true about solar activity being low, when this happens the earths magnetic field weakens & we get hotter as a result! the earths magnetosphere & magneto (ball of metal in the middle) get less power from the sun! we are all held on earth by magnetism! gravity was made up! magnetic fields hold the planets in place! gravity would push them down! even though activity is weak & defied the 11 year cycle its coming! it just shows things have changed! for the worse! good luck :o)

While the graphs are great and the conclusion seems solid, you are missing a factor. You are assuming that what has happened in the past predicts what will happen in the future. This philosophy is called uniformitarianism. I would not rely on it as a good predictive model. You may be, and probably are, right. But realize this line of reasoning leads to major mistakes.
The biggest problem with 2012 is that it's a miscalculation. It isn't even Mayan, but Mixtec or Olmec. It's a long-count calendar that counts days, and so you'd have to know 1) the length of a day, 2) on precisely what day and in what month to start (neither of which modern versions were in use by the Olmecs), and so on. Modern calculations of 365.25 for days in a year were used, when the perfect 360 was used by the calendar, which puts it in 2087, and is still just the end of a day-count.
I like your video it makes lots of sense. but what about the weather? the sun plays a big role on weather patterns and I am just curios on how all this stuff may effect the weather. It's called the galactic alignment. The "equator" of our galaxy will be perfectly in line with our planet in 2012. The sun, the earth, and the center of our galaxy (the blackhole) will be in "perfect" alignment (which is actually really bad for us). This only happens around every 26,000 years.

im afraid u've missed the point, in 2012 our entire solar system crosses the galactic equator and we simply have no idea what happens to either the sun or the earth at this time. this is an event that occurs roughly every 13,000 years so we have no relevant data to analyse. scientists theorise that possibly the sun and/or the earth's magnetic fields could reverse causing a polar shift and worldwide destruction but the truth is no one really knows, we will just have to wait and see.

You need to read some more on the subject. Go to NASA and read! The interview with Kaku you refer to is old. Kaku is also referring to the hole in the magnetic field around the earth. This video talks about that as well. Just read the NASA site and you will see they are predicting a smaller than normal cycle.

Great video!! The only thing I'm concerned about is our electric grid. All that is needed to stop the transformers from shorting out, is a cheap grounding wire. But you know how the electric companies are. If something like this happens, they'll loose the transformers, then have to raise our rates to replace them. If they can figure out how to make more money they will!!

there's a black hole in the center of our galaxy right? and also the sun is moving towards the center of the galaxy as we speak or at least really close to the center and is going to be there around 2012. so what does that mean? the myans were so accurate about everything in space maybe they seen the black hole and calculated when the sun was going to go near it and wrote it down as 2012 the day the sun get sucked up by a black hole. just a theory. @piderwadeywine dude you gotta get your information right before you speak it as a fact. The earth will actually be closer to the center of our galaxy in 2012, which is, like you said, a blackhole. It's called the galactic alignment. The "equator" of our galaxy will be perfectly in line with our planet in 2012. The sun, the earth, and the center of our galaxy (the blackhole) will be in "perfect" alignment (which is actually really bad for us). This only happens around every 26,000 years.

@spisformereturns Actually, scientist are afraid of a storm with the opposite polarity, and if it then the magnetic field will be like air for the storm.
Those storms are normal, but it is proven (or not proven depending on your way of thinking) that there will be a storm that is bigger in size, and the scientist, as well as NASA are afraid of that it will be in the opposite polarity than the earths. If it hits the earth, generators will be "killed" and it would take up to 4 years to redo it

NASA has since revised its prediction, downward to around 90 sunspots for cycle #24. But also warns ""The great geomagnetic storm of 1859, occurred during a solar cycle of about the same size were predicting for 2012/2013".
Don't confuse potential storm intensity with the number of predicted sunspots.

im afraid u've missed the point, in 2012 our entire solar system crosses the galactic equator and we simply have no idea what happens to either the sun or the earth at this time. this is an event that occurs roughly every 13,000 years so we have no relevant data to analyse. scientists theorise that possibly the sun and/or the earth's magnetic fields could reverse causing a polar shift and worldwide destruction but the truth is no one really knows, we will just have to wait and see.

Interesting that you end the video by saying that the only thing at risk is our technology, not the Earth itself. It is ironic that since we rely so much on our technology to run our infrastructure, that the loss of this technology could literally knock us back into the Middle Ages. Remember the Cold War and how close we were to obliterating the planet based on misunderstandings. You need to read some more on the subject. Go to NASA and read! The interview with Kaku you refer to is old. Kaku is also referring to the hole in the magnetic field around the earth. This video talks about that as well. Just read the NASA site and you will see they are predicting a smaller than normal cycle.
