What I have a problem with is the fact that it is promoted in pro-level hockey. The fight could happen, the refs could stop it and they could go back to the game. Instead the ref's let them fight it out making it seem like they can't get involved so that more people watch the game.
I don't see why people should need fighting to enjoy the game, or like a certain team. Watch it because the hockey is good, not because the fighting is present.
When i go to an NHL game, i go to watch hockey... but i also hope i see a fight.. or a line brawl.. or even a bench brawl! its part of the game.. and its awesome

What the NHL has told the referees in the league to let the fights go and not step in immediately as it is trying to entice more people to the sport. Who doesn't like a good fight? This day and age, people like violence, action, blood.
As for Bertuzzi, it was an accident. He never meant to paralyze Moore. Sometimes the emotions are running high and you are thinking to yourself, "Let's avenge our fallen teammate by doing something completely irrational."
Bertuzzi, now after serving his 1 year suspension, will never be the same hockey player he was when he was dominating the league with Vancouver due to this incident.

I love Colton Orr. He is the only bright spot, along with Phil Kessell in another shitty leaf season. He is one tough customer. I love the way he fights. I wish the sportsmanship that is shown by the tough guys could also be demonstrated by the skill players in this time of cross-checks and vicious boarding from behind/head shots.

actually i think body shots are a big part of fighting, if you use it properly of course. ive seen a few fights this year where fighters used body shots to get their opponent to open up and stop protecting their face. it looks great if a fighter can use body shots in a high paced fight. body shots are useless in a dull fight with just grappling. in this case it worked well for Macytire or w/e his name is. GO LEAFS.

I don't really mind fighting in hockey, that much. What I don't like is how it has become part of the game.
The refs make no attempt to stop them, clearly letting them go for the crowd's amusement. Fighting is bound to happen, but I don't watch for the fights I watch for the hockey.
It's as bad as those sissies in European football constantly faking injury; when did this shit become part of sport?

I watch fighting sports because I respect their finesse and training, same with hockey.

I know fights happen in hockey, they always have.
What I have a problem with is the fact that it is promoted in pro-level hockey. The fight could happen, the refs could stop it and they could go back to the game. Instead the ref's let them fight it out making it seem like they can't get involved so that more people watch the game.
I don't see why people should need fighting to enjoy the game, or like a certain team. Watch it because the hockey is good, not because the fighting is present.

It's always entertaining to see a brawl happen, but when they don't try and take care of it quickly to boost viewership--fuck that. As much as I respect your opinion I disagree. They use it to spark their team or use as a tool for exerting their frustration which is alot better then a dirty hit or a Todd Bertuzzi play. If you noticed the score was 2-0 Florida, Toronto ended up putting one in the back of the net and came back and won.

Fighting has always been apart of hockey and always will be. Saying you don't watch for the fights is just ridiculous. Whether you like it or not, when a fight takes place it is to get the team jacked up and rearing for the next shifts.

When you compare the NHL to the NBA, MLB, NFL and even NASCAR, people would rather pay money to watch an event like this in the States. The NHL isn't as popular as these sports. What the NHL has told the referees in the league to let the fights go and not step in immediately as it is trying to entice more people to the sport. Who doesn't like a good fight? This day and age, people like violence, action, blood.

As for Bertuzzi, it was an accident. He never meant to paralyze Moore. Sometimes the emotions are running high and you are thinking to yourself, "Let's avenge our fallen teammate by doing something completely irrational."
Bertuzzi, now after serving his 1 year suspension, will never be the same hockey player he was when he was dominating the league with Vancouver due to this incident.

you make it seem like fighting is new to hockey. Fighting has always been a part of hockey, and probably will always be. Hockey is not a fighting sport but a sport that may involve fighting.
If you watch fighting sports and respect the fighters' finesse and training, why can you not respect the training that hockey fighters go through? This is their job and I respect them for fighting people that I would never in my life want to fight.

Orr got owned once Macintyre got zoned in. Orr's punches, the few that actually landed, didn't seem to have much effect but Macintyre definitely landed some bombs that brought down Orr. Decision goes to Macintyre, no question.
