i sugjest make w water lock so you can open a door water will flow in close then once all the water is gone open another one to get in your house just like a space lock

why shovels? you could just dig straight down through one of the blocks then destroy the bottom block of sand and quickly put torch it destroys all blocks and you can pick the torch back up ^^

All you have to do is build like a opening or something then put ladders on the top bricks or whatever block you want the water to stop at and the water cant go through ladders

lol at the begging when you said the cross is a sign, it reminded me when i spawned and there was a cross like that one in the sand, so i was like ha look cross, so i went over, dug down 2 times then the floor just collapsed int a GIANT cavern with skeletons and creepers everywhere. I was thinking it was a sign as a joke, but i guess i was right!

If you feel like it you should build an underwater glass tunnel leading to the two lands off the side of your house. That way you can get rid of the double doors at the top and you won't have ugly bridges extending off the sides. Just a suggestion not trying to tell you how to build your house.
