Cherry is right on touch icing, but him incinuating that Mitchell did this on purpose is just wrong. These sorts of things happen all the time where two players are fighting for the puck and something inerent happens where a guy gets hurt. Mitchell made repeated attempts to apologize to Foster right after the game, to a point where Foster said he apologized "a little too much."

@BloggerMusicMan Exactly. As a Sharks fan, it infuriates me even more, especially because Mitchell is not that type of player. To say that he hurt him is bullshit. Foster just cut in front of his line of sight and slowed almost right away, and Mitchell was still skating hard. Afterwards, the apologies followed as you said.

@Cascarino33 Dude, I actually agree with Cherry's stance on touch icing. It has no place in the game with how fast it has become. What I don't agree with is him saying Mitchell meant to hurt him. I've seen this type of play many times where a player puts his arms out in an effort to try and pin the player into the boards, but Foster slowed to the point where he was at the goal line and Mitchell expected him to be against the boards and lost his balance, so the end result was this.

@SonicXisnow2009 continue: It is a shame what happened to Foster and that he almost died because of complications during operation, but Foster even said in an interview that Mitchell had apologized "a bit too much". I don't see Cherry blasting Nystrom after Taylor Fedun broke his femur going into the boards. Nystrom's was accidental, too, but this was more to make a point than anything..

@BloggerMusicMan He isn't wrong, Mitchell wanted Foster to hit the boards. He had enough time and space to make sure not to put him in this situation. As far as Mitchell apologizing.. well it is the least he could do, don't you think?

It did not hapen in czeck rep. it was Kosice in SLOVAKIA. it was very sad. the guy was in coma for some time and after couple of days was gone becouse of a stupid rule. Tragic

Cherry is right... Mitchell pulled up to score an easy hit and it was damn dirty. You can't deliberately injure someone and then pretend to be concerned when you realize you've almost killed the guy.

Well, I dont really agree with you there that Canada owns the game. The Russians have a great team and the swedes as well, and the both can beat canada anytime. If Canada would own the game the would win the Olympics and the World Championships all the time.

Ovechkin is the best goalscorer in NHL, Datuyk is the best defensive forward in the game, Lidstrom the best defenceman, Detroit wins Stanley Cup with Zetterberg as the best player in the playoffs. So no Canadians doesnt own the game.

Cherry is right. Look at the Shark players stick! It is on the right side of his body no where near the puck. He is making zero attempt to reach for the puck. He just pushes the defenseman into the boards. Was he trying to break his leg? No. But he was trying to hit him hard in a cheap way.

Torrey Mitchell is a kid who hustles his can off every time he's on the ice. Intentional? Give me a friggin break. Tell that idiot defenseman to get the hell out of the way. Mitchell is trying to beat the icing for crying out loud and Cherry (and the rest of you idiots who agree with him) thought it was intentional. Get over it.

Get rid of touch icing and get rid of offsides and maybe the game will be high scoring and more flowing and less whistles. Keep fightning alive.

What actually happened is like when two kids are sword fighting each other with sticks and one accidently pokes and pops the other kid's eye and then says "OH SHIT, I FUCKED UP EPICALLY THERE." Him putting his hand on the guy on the ice was just that.

It was intentional. Sure..he may not have intended to hurt him, but anybody that's played the game of hockey realizes how easy it is to get someone off balance when they're going full speed. Just a little push in the back can send a player flying into the boards. Mitchell knew that and should have been suspended for such a dangerous hit.
