Missouri Meershaum doesn't only make Cobs. In fact I've just recently started with MM "Ozark" straight stem. For a pipe that cost me 5$ us and 4 oz. of local house blends, for under 5$. 10$ total. Cheap pipe. but it has been pleasurable enough for me to have become VERY enthusiastic about pipe smoking.The most interesting thing I think is the amount of different tobaccos out there, all with different flavors and smells. I enjoy that. Anyway character limits are low so. Bye!

I just recently started pipe smoking when a friend of mine gave me a pipe as a birthday present, and I absolutely love it!

Just a quick question: Would you suggest useing filters? I think it may be more healthy to use filters, but doesn't that take away taste from the tobacco?

Most of my pipes don't have filters.. but i have a couple that do - to be honest when I've smoked them with filters I can really not tell the difference.. So I think if your happier using filters then do. Cheers, Tim

@455dragos like anything, it's unhealthy if you do it too often. It definitely tastes better than cigarettes and its more relaxing and smoother. It's not addicting at all.

For an aromatic tobacco, I personally prefer Captain Black. Its relatively cheap and you can but it any supermarket, well at least you can here in California.

I did start out with a drug store pipe and then bought 2 corn cobs. I have bought many other pipes since then. I guess I have to continue to smoke a pipe because I am highly invested in it now. lol

@Talbot6832 it's not meant to be inhaled, you can, but you won't get the satisfaction as you would from a cigarette. Pipes are more just for enjoying the good taste and flavors or tobacco

Inhaling a pipe is a HEll of a lot more satisfying than a Cigarette! I kicked a 18 year pack a day cigarette habit with pipe smoking without any withdraws at all! Pipe delivers about three times the nicotine than a cigarette does, And every pipe smoker Inhales smokes wether he's aware of it or not.

@PipesGunsAndGold1 ...and it doesn't contain the 700-some industrial chemicals cigarettes do. What is inhaled when smoking a pipe doesn't get draw deeply into the lungs and held there. So while the mouth/throat cancer issues are similar at least the lung cancer isn't nearly as likely.

Sound advice Tim...it's taken me a long time to quit the ciggies, even after starting with the pipe. A strong baccy like St.Bruno or Erinmore helps a lot. Irish Flake or Revor Plug should keep even the most hardcore ciggie smoker satisfied. Its a big mistake telling people to start with aromatics...particularly if they want to quit ciggies...that said Erinmore Flake has a fair punch to it.

Thanks mate.. The problem with cigs is that in these days of smoking bans they are quick and easy.. Thats why i enjoy the old snuff - but if i'm honest when i'm having a pint i always fancy a cig.

Hi Tim, in the US 'Pipefriend CHS' gets large bags of tobacco for next to nothing pricewise (i think its the lack of tax in North Carolina). The problem over here is it's just so damn expensive. By the way i tried the toothpaste on my stem and it came up a treat. Thanks. There's nothing like the taste of Revor and Morrisons Freshmint in a morning......!

Hey Tim, since i spoke to you last i took a 20 mile drive to my nearest tobacconist to get a pipe and some tobacco, there was a bowl of cheap pipes so i did what you said not to and got a £6 Briar pipe lol, it seems fine to me but i have nothing to compare with.

The guy suggested some cherry and vanilla tobacco which i just finished yesterday, i enjoyed it but do not fancy a trip that far again so looking for something now in the supermarket to try.

Yes I can play tunes on the hearing aids - they're a little like a Theramin. The pipe i'm smoking was made by Dunhill for Astley's - great smoke.
