Why don't you ask the opnion of students and teachers? It seems they support TDSB desicion. Anyone is allowed to pray in school, if you want to pray, then PRAY. If you don't then mind your own business. Most GTA schools offer students to pray regardless of religion as long as it doesn't intefer school activities. I don't agree with the way they ganged up on that young girl at the end. It was bullying and badgering. They took prayer out of school years and years ago. You cannot put it back for one religion. The only place you can mix religion with education is in private school. It's sad how they were all shouting about it but it is a big deal.

Prayer is still allowed at the beginning of the day and outside school hours, but groups wanting it have to be accomodated equitably and no one must be required to participate (except unfortunately de facto by their parents, which is a flaw in the Education Act imo).
@153370371 I'm saying it because in 1989 in the case of Russow v. British Columbia it was outlawed. The optional prayer opening was replaced with this clause: 76 (1) All schools and Provincial schools must be conducted on strictly secular and nonsectarian principles.
No prayer is allowed. If the courts hadn't already struck down Christian prayer then maybe the Muslims could pray but the courts ruled against Christian prayer so no exemptions should be made.
@MsColdCanada What does BC have to do with it? You are citing law for BC not Ontario. This school is in Ontario. Ontario permits religious instruction in the schools, and it permits an opening prayer. In any case, in the BC case you cite it was *required* that one particular prayer from one particular religion be read. It was not an optional reading, it was a required reading at the start of the day.

Why don't you ask the opnion of students and teachers? It seems they support TDSB desicion. Anyone is allowed to pray in school, if you want to pray, then PRAY. If you don't then mind your own business. Most GTA schools offer students to pray regardless of religion as long as it doesn't intefer school activities. Considering the fact that school was over 85% Muslim, someone probably felt intimidated. Practice ur religion and stop protesting against useless cause. Dont let Canada turn into usa.

I don't agree with the way they ganged up on that young girl at the end. It was bullying and badgering. They took prayer out of school years and years ago. You cannot put it back for one religion. The only place you can mix religion with education is in private school. It's sad how they were all shouting about it but it is a big deal.

@MsColdCanada Why do people keep saying this. It is not true. Prayer is still allowed at the beginning of the day and outside school hours, but groups wanting it have to be accomodated equitably and no one must be required to participate (except unfortunately de facto by their parents, which is a flaw in the Education Act imo).

@153370371 I'm saying it because in 1989 in the case of Russow v. British Columbia it was outlawed. The optional prayer opening was replaced with this clause: 76 (1) All schools and Provincial schools must be conducted on strictly secular and nonsectarian principles.
No prayer is allowed. If the courts hadn't already struck down Christian prayer then maybe the Muslims could pray but the courts ruled against Christian prayer so no exemptions should be made.

@MsColdCanada What does BC have to do with it? You are citing law for BC not Ontario. This school is in Ontario. Ontario permits religious instruction in the schools, and it permits an opening prayer. In any case, in the BC case you cite it was *required* that one particular prayer from one particular religion be read. It was not an optional reading, it was a required reading at the start of the day.

If your argument is Ontario is special and different from the rest of Canada then it`s not the first time I`ve heard that. When I lived in Ontario as an adult it seemed to be a popular topic. I guess what happens in another province is none of my business as a Canadian in NB. Fine. Put on airs.

@MsColdCanada Facts are facts. Prayer is not outlawed in Ontario schools where the school in question is located. Nothing to do with Ontario being special and different. Just that there are different laws in different provinces. For all I know prayer is not outlawed in BC either but I didn't research that since we are talking about Ontario here. It is plenty your business, but you can't apply BC or NB laws to Ontario.

By the way there is a standard move about with all religions to liberalize them and bring them in line with pluralist modernity. If she is doing this, they are attitude is neither lying nor ignorance but rather more sophisticated and perhaps somewhat ironic.

Other, arguably more representative groups have come out in favour of the prayer. Be aware of Islam: it always desires Sharia Law: Attempts to set up Sharia courts in Canada in 2005 were abandoned after protests.

Canada was not based on Judeo Christian principles. It is based on Secular Atheist and Pagan values where no religion has dominance over the other one. Christians in many ways are no different from Muslims. Their ideas may be less radical but they want a Theocracy just like the Muslims. So we must fight both religions and keep Western countries secular so we won't have to put up with Abrahamic theocracies where women are second class, gays are killed and non Abrahamics are persecuted.

Christians do want a theocracy they think it is their duty to enforce their god's will on all of mankind. That is why in the West they try to make laws that are faith based and contradict reason and human rights. They insist that the Western Nations were made as Theocratic Bible Based countries when in reality we got the modern West from Enlightenment thinkers who were influenced by Greek and Roman ideas.

I like the way it demonstrates the "divisiveness" of the protesters at the end by having these two protesters shouting down the only Muslim person who came to argue their case. Just mean spirited nastiness by to women who wont listen to a single word, or discuss anything,
It is pretty obvious who are being "divisive": the protesters, who then show their bad behaviour and try and claim that it is the fault of the person they are being abusive to. Thanks for posting this. It is very revealing.
