It was so bad I had to stop playing it while I tried to decide what to listen to next. I don't care if his whole family went down on the Fitzgerald, it doesn't have anything to do with his singing, which sucked.

I like this version I think Courtney sounds sexy kinda has a grunge sound but its a different rendition of the song and he says the words more clearly than on the otherr version simply titled "The Wreck".

@eyeofshera - Agree..It's a slower, acoustic grunge version..an improvement on the bouncy/ folk other version..It *should be* chilling and ghostly; lots of other ships have gone down in those waters, and many sailors say they still haunt the lakes..Lightfoot didn't write the lyrics, only the 4 chord progression..A woman wrote the lyrics..

@lifter2131 - That is probably the case (someone may have been spreading some dis-info about)..but: there are several factual errors in the lyrics (5 or 6) which makes one a bit suspect..

all naysayers yogi bear this in mind. The song was a b side to boys better, the other b side was a demo of a song cut when they were alot younger and so when all 3 songs on the single were listened to it had a sort of evolving sound quality or something to that ilk. it has its own place to cut a boring story short

i love the warhols and i love this song and i'm digging on it as i sit here at the

library going through the damn job ads on craigslist for the zillionth time - almost makes CL bearable. i love Courtney's voice and i love the guitar and .......

course we all love Gordon's classic .... but these guys are so cool ......

maybe the monotony and flatness kinda goes with drowning in an icy,grey,

bottomless, body of death for the nth time - if you believe in past lives -

drowned dead davy ...

I love Gordon Lightfoot and I love the Dandy Warhols and I think this is a great cover of this song. The first time I heard it I wasn't big on it but after a few listens it has really grown on me. Actually I think this is an amazing cover!! It would have been to easy for the Dandy's to just to cover it as it was but I like their twist they put on it. Such an emotional song!!!

@masterpangloss give it a few plays chance. personally i love it but i did hear this version before i heard the original. and check out the version simply called 'the wreck' which should be listed on the right and is 9:09 in length. maybe it'll change your opinion,maybe it wont! :)

I love Gordon Lightfoot's original and I'm a big fan of the Dandy Warhols too, but this is a horrible cover, well-intentioned, but really disappointing. Flat and monotonous. This is taking minimalism to ridiculous levels. The song wasn't meant to sound like Pavement on valium. Shame Courtney Taylor-Taylor couldn't pull it off.
