Anky van Rollkur.. I don;t know what Monty is doing associating with someone who regularly uses over-bending when he is so adamently against it.. ??? :(
I will tell you the sercet of Rollkur, trainers use this to restrict oxygen to the brain of the horse the horses throax closes up. With less oxygen to the brain the horse then becomes calm and lightheaded and slows down because of to much carbon monoxide in the blood then the horse learns to be submissive to the rider's every comand because of fear of suffcation. Just like when a lion attacks a zebra it will go for the throax and then the drop down so liken these people to beasts of the feld.

I do not support the fashion of forcing your horse behind the vertical decreasing his vision and making him uncomfortable and stressed, but I am glad that ATLEAST Anky is responsible enough let her horses stretch frequently, her dressage tests are no where near 15 minutes long - not even 10 and scooling would (should anyway) be probably no more then 5 minutes of strenious work or new movements before a good stretch, and then continue with more short burst of schooling and stretching (we hope)

Anky has indeed been accused of rediculous things by a German magazine years ago. It is proved to be false, so people BE UP TO DATE!
The horse she sits on here, is not even hers and it would have protested if it didn't want to listen. She is the leader, but the horse feels fine under her lead; is not hurted or performing too heavy exercises.
Also, Anky has achieved so much, she now steps down to spend more time with her family and enjoy horseriding without the disadvantages of topsport.
That aint even a horse trained by her + doubt this horse has been trained with help of rollkur, so of course the horse looks calm and relaxed under her here!

Um... Please show me where you read that! The woman's not a poster girl but she certainly hasn't been banned from competing. She's ranked 1st in the FEI rankings with Salinero and 4th with Painted Black. She wouldn't even be on the rankings if she was banned.

Anky and Monty are both good at what they do, but every trainer is different, which is why there are so many trainers in the world! Anky is very impressive, and my draw dropped when I saw this. I ride Dressage, as well as western, but i've never seen an olympian do both so well!

Dressage has to be more switched on, piaffing is a tense movement to achieve, you have to perform your best without blowing-up. western is the same! go back and study more on this Subject and then come back. Dressage and Western have proven to be the same in movemnts.
I walked a few years around in a GPdressage stable... I didn´t talked about the movement of the horse but I talked about Ankys riding style. Even a good dressage rider can ride with loose reins. Therefor everytime I see Anky riding she uses her hands too much and in this vid I like the way she rides. Just relaxed with loose reins, it really looks better to me.
look! dressage is all about connection from seat leg to hand without that, there is no connection. how can you aid a horse with loose reins? Western riding has loose reins due to the different bridle wear ie, long shank bits (severe) only if you abuse it! walking around a dressage stable is different to riding a Grand prix horse!
I not only walked around there >> I saw horses and even rode some of them that just could peform all high dressage elements with a loose rein. Sadly you also have GPstables where the horses are all cramped up and can´t peform any elements without strong contact. It´s just about the way you ride, make a horse or destroy a horse.
I don't miss the point! Dressage is very simular to Western riding but with different tack! I ride Dressage not novice but training Advanced Medium. I am also learning Parelli and have been riding my horse in a Parelli Hackamore doing Advance Medium Movements..
of course there are differences beyond the tack, but you are right when you point out the similarities between diciplines. the movements are different, but western horses also benefit from dressage basics (as do horses in various other english and western diciplines.) clinton anderson agrees with certain accomplished dressage riders and has had them on his show, & tho ppl call reining the western dresg., the basics are very similar to pleasure horse demands
