@girlzcallmefry I'm also gonna sign up for pararescue, most likely next yr. So far, I can do 25m w/ ABU pants, no flippers, but 50m w/ neither would do me in, and I'm an old man
@girlzcallmefry you have to do this during your ETD as well after around 6 hours of intense physical training with only one breath.. then after this you have to do another 15 more hours of training is that easy or still not that hard?
Hey, do you feel like your expending alot of energy with that many dolphin kicks? I usually only do maybe 1 inbetween strokes and I feel like they take more energy
im in high school and im only able to swim 30~35m underwater, i want to swim at least 50 so i can join the SEALs. Whats the best way of training for this? do you have any tips?
wow man that is awesome im in pre training for coast guard rescue swimmer school and am working on my underwater stuff is there any other drills i can do to help get more comfortable in the water
wow man that is awesome im in pre training for coast guard rescue swimmer school and am working on my underwater stuff is there any other drills i can do to help get more comfortable in the water
@joecoasty189 I'd say try to get as much pool time as you can. Try every day if possible, do lots of water threading, do bobbing for 5 minutes non stop then when you feel like you can do more increase to 10 minutes then 15, then 20 etc.. Learn to hold your breath for as long as possible practice that every day. Learn to swim only using your legs with your arms tied to your back. Theres a lot more stuff you can practice on so I'd recommend you do a Google search or join military forums.
@stiffler2785 Hey, I can swim with my hands tied behind my back and bob like a dolphin would, but the problem is knowing how to surface and take breaths. Do you know what that specific style of swimming is called? I need help because I have injured shoulders and I don't like stretching my arms much.
@ScopedOUT2 I dont know the name of that specific style, but I know exactly what your talking about. Try taking big gulps of air when you break the surface but never release any air while underwater this will cause you to sink and make it harder to come back up to the surface for air. Hope that helped :/
@ScopedOUT2 don't panic like you're absolutely gonna die if you don't get air right then. when I do it, I come up off the bottom, start my dolphin kicks, and time each breath just right. I'll take a breath when I'm kicking downward vs bringing my feet back twds my body. it won't be a great breath, but it'll keep ya alive. hope that was somewhat helpful, and good luck to ya
@stiffler2785 Great job buddy.I can only do 31 meters, but then again,I'm only 13.I was trying to hold my breath during the video but i couldn't. Maybe cuz i didn't warm up. Again, great job and keep it up, don't give up.
Back to me, I have always wanted to know if there are any other freedivers, NAVY SEALs, or just any one else who does smoke like I do and still has the ability to swim long distances underwater. I have always loved breath control And I am an underwater wrestler and underwater mma player? What is your best breath hold time underwater?
@underwaterjustin The longest i've gotten was 3:47 seconds. This was prior to Indoc. We we're at the pool 2 weeks ago and I got 3:12 seconds. Hope that answers your question.
@stiffler2785 Did you make it through INDOC? I plan on becoming a PJ. I want this like nothing else, and for the next year, I will be training everyday for it.
@bigbigblue111 It went great! :) There were some tough times on phase 2 but got through it, Paramedic school was cake since I was already a certified Medic for Florida. All I can say is train, train, train and train some more if you dont you're gonna wish you did. Feel free to PM if you have any further questions :)
For anyone training for BUD/S. The 50 meter swim they do in training is much different. When you start off you can't push off the wall. You jump in, do a frontflip underwater, and then swim the 50 meters underwater.
@rberry141 Thats exactly how we do it in Indoc. In the video above I wasnt trying to do a "real life 50 meter swim exercise" I was just practicing thats all but thanks for pointing that out for the people that dont know :)
good! but I noticed your legs are a little too high. I don't know if someone has already told you, but it is really important to keep them down, because they slow you down the way you have them. And you seem a little stressed with the apnea, so try to stay calm. I'm not an expert and am still trainning, but those things help me a lot indeed.
@Ardillaacuatica The reason being for my legs breaking the surface was because the pool was maybe 4 feet tall. This was my gym's pool that i would practice on when my community college would close. Thanks for watching!
@TehJohnny866 Just practice holding your breath every day. Ex: day one hold it for 35 seconds. Day two hold it for 55 seconds. Day three hold it for 1:20 seconds etc etc

Hey buddy, how's PJ training treating you? I see you posted this a year ago so I assume you have about a year left, right? I'm going into CCT and I've been training hard for water con. I'm a hundred percent better than I started, and it only took about six months to be a much more proficient swimmer.

at the moment i am turning 14 the 23 of july and i am already training so i can realy stand out of the croud. my goal is to make one of the best times considering i have about 7 or 8 years to train i think i have good chance and i also think that my local pool at the YMCA might be one of the place where these are heald because theres a sign that sais official navy seal training sight. and right next to it theres an airforce sign. its cool though because it motivates me alot.
I'm getting close to getting this down. Today I went 35ish, which is good considering I've never tried before and I'm 16. Any tips for getting the last 15? I'm not too worried right now considering I have about 6 years before I go in to BUDs, but I want to be ahead of the game.
@paintballaboi Read some of the comments ive left other viewers. It answers lots of questions and includes some tips as well. Good luck and thanks for watching
First off, don't be in the water when you start. Jump in and go straight under water. Then do a somersault. THEN start your 50 meters without pushing off from the first wall. That's how it's done.
@macconnell100 your comment is 100% true and its explaining the way to do a 50 meter underwater swim "while in evaluation". but what i did here wasnt for an evaluation its was just for practicing purposes (PAST) only. Thanks for watching
@macconnell100 You forgot one more part, not just everything you said was right but the guys at BUDs have to do this swim after running miles in rough sand, doing endless hardcore PT and then after all the life has been sucked out of them....then they do the 50 meter swim. Although the guy who did the swim in video was impressive, he's still doing it 110% well rested.
@MMA3013 You're absolutely right i was rested but not 110% prior to this video i had been doing water exercises like: threading water, freestyle swims, css etc... Thanks you for your comment and for watching :)
@MMA3013 You might think I was 110% rested but when I use to train/practice I use to do the entire PAST exercise from beginning to end to simulate the stress and pain I would have to go through. Thanks for watching and for the kind words :)
what type of workouts did you do to be able to do a 50 underwater? i can do 25s back to back to back etc. pretty easily but i just dont feel like i have enough when i get to the wall to turn around. i already passed my PAST test but i know i will have to do a 50 once i get into indoc.
@patrodgers91 since your able to do 25meters like nothing. try doing a little more than 25m perhaps try doing 30meters by touching the wall and turning back around for 5meters then try that again increasing 5meters at a time until you can do 1 1/2 pools. once youve reached that confident level try staying focus and relaxed while your underwater ,also try to glide as much as possible with each given arm/leg stroke to conserve as much 02 as possible. once you feel ready go for it but SAFETY FIRST!
I was able to do it this summer on my 2nd try, I did push off at the very beginning though. Its mostly just getting past any uncomfortable feelings, and make sure your form is as efficient as possible. Last time I swam was almost a year prior. If you can make it an extra 15 meters to the 40 meter mark, you'll see the end and think "might as well finish it." I don't know for sure, but I think your body goes numb before passing out, but don't take my word for it.
@bluejay52431 Every time you get that uncomfortable feeling and pressure from the lack of 02 try just pushing a little more so you can build some tolerance little by little. Dont ever try to push over your limit without having someone there looking after you, you could pass out and drown.
hey dude awesome swim im having problems myself the most ive done is 35 i need some tips on the frog kick and the dolphin kick it doesn't seem effective for me i feel like i don't go anywhere when i do it... also in need for tips on the underwater spin you do i always build up a lot of pressure in my head please help...
@Sh3neki3 well 35m is very good so tap yourself on the shoulders for that :) as you can see in my video im NOT doing a frog kick, im doing more like a scissors kick just because it works better for me since im not that comfortable with the frog kick. i also do a dolphin kick right after every stroke so it helps me glide further between every arm stroke. i dont do an underwater flip i just turn my body side ways right when im in arms length between me and the wall. [CONTINUED]
[CONTINUED] as far as the pressure in your head for me to help you i would need to know more in detail: exactly when it is that is happening, what triggers it, where do you feel it in your head and how do you feel after you get this pressure? for some reason youtube wont let me post this comment with a link to a video sorry about that... just look on youtube: How to Swim the Breaststroke Overview of the Breaststroke Leg Movement <<<this is the best video i found on frog kicks. hope i helped :)
@stiffler2785 well i get the head pressure when i do the spin underwater and ive decided to use a nose plug i always get water up my nose when i do it... ill try doing the kick you did in the video it looks way more affective ive been trying the youtube videos on it but the technique never works for me...im not worried about the underwater because the test for me is 25 under water 3 min res then 25 again and how you do in the 500 meter swim? ive been more worried about doing that plus the 1.5 m
@Sh3neki3 lets keep in mind that depriving your body of O2 is a unhealthy and unsafe thing to do since it could lead to injury or even death. therefor you might feel symptoms due to lack of O2 in your body. with that being said your head pressure could be a warning sign that your body is trying to tell you that it can no longer withstand being underwater without air. you did say that you get this "head pressure" when your doing the turn. [CONTINUED]
@Sh3neki3 [CONTINUED] by the time your doing your turn youve swam 25m underwater, at that moment your body is fighting the high levels of CO2 in your blood and needs fresh O2 PLUS your forcing your body to make a physical turn underwater with the little bit of O2 you have left in your lungs. this turn consumes and requires lots of energy and energy requires..... yep you guesses it Oxygen. try swimming underwater 10 meters towards the wall, then do the turn and see if your still [CONTINUED]
@Sh3neki3 [CONTINUED] getting this head pressure. my PAST consisted of 2 25meter underwater swims, i forgot how much time i got in between each underwater session. then a 1500 meter freestyle swim i did the freestyle swim in 23 minutes. also a 3 mile run and calisthenics (pushups, situps, pullups, flutterkicks)
@stiffler2785 i just want to get the 50 meters in one breath but i tried spins underwater today and it seemed like i loose alot of breath/ oxygen when im doing it
dude thats awsome.ok, i mhaving trouble with doing a 25 metter pool. can u give me any tips or drills that i could do 2 improve it. im a swimmer and its sad that i cant even do a 25metters. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!
Please make sure you have someone watching you and EMT and/or lifeguards on scene and attentive. You can pass out and die very easily doing this. There have been cases of kids like you practicing this that are no longer with us. BE CAREFUL!!
you should try giving yourself a goal as far as distance so every time you swim it should be a bit further or the same NEVER less. also keep in mind swimming underwater is physical but more importantly mental. always keep your mind clear and focus on what your doing at that very moment. even when you feel you have no more air just keep pushing until you absolutely cant no more. by repeating this you should be doing 25m in a week depending how much and how hard you try. 80% mental 20% physical
well first things first. what is it that is causing you so much trouble that makes it impossible for you to swim 25m underwater? in order for me to help you i need to know what your doing wrong or not doing at all.
to increase your leg strength i would suggest doing 25m intervals @ 3:00 with a t-shirt and using only your legs. i use a somewhat scissor kick instead of a frog kick. with nothing on but a speedo and facemask, i'm gliding through the water. the shirt is used to create more drag. it will help!!! go easy at first though!!!!
So i tried the 25m and t-shirt but with intervals @ 2:30 doing 10 reps and Its pretty simple but i definitely feel A LOT slower under water. Now i tried doing it without my arms only my legs and hello there's a challenge! lol
Im gonna keep practicing that way till i do a 50m with t-shirt.
Your technique in this clip is quite good in general. I suggest trying to leave out those dolphin kicks completely, as they consume lots of oxygen but are very inefficient. You could also focus a bit on training that frog kick, as it is currently more like a scissors kick, which is not as effective. But as I said, otherwise everything seems to work quite nicely and your diving speed is pretty optimal. Neck weight would help a lot, but I guess it's not allowed in the PAST test.
Thanks man i appreciate it! Ill try to get rid of the dolphin kick, but i've just gotten so use to it since my frog kick isnt powerful enough.. What do you suggest i do to improve my frog kick/breast stroke kick?
And unfortunately they dont let us use a weight neck for the PAST test.
i wouldnt say im going slow but that im trying to glide as much as possible between each arm pull and kick so that im able to conserve as much energy and oxygen so i can turn back around.
yea that happens to everyone since you still have oxygen in your lungs you tend to float.. just glide as much as possible but dont let yourself get to a complete stop. you'll waste more energy trying to do an arm pull when your at a stop then when you still are moving with a little momentum.
very flowing style mate, the 1st time i did the 50m underwater was by accident with a mouth full of meat pie, didnt know you couldnt eat standing on the diving blocks at a public pool, lil man in red shorts and a yellow shirt came to get me off, so off i went :), well done again
Great job.

at the moment i am turning 14 the 23 of july and i am already training so i can realy stand out of the croud. my goal is to make one of the best times considering i have about 7 or 8 years to train i think i have good chance and i also think that my local pool at the YMCA might be one of the place where these are heald because theres a sign that sais official navy seal training sight. and right next to it theres an airforce sign. its cool though because it motivates me alot.

I'm getting close to getting this down. Today I went 35ish, which is good considering I've never tried before and I'm 16. Any tips for getting the last 15? I'm not too worried right now considering I have about 6 years before I go in to BUDs, but I want to be ahead of the game.

@paintballaboi Build Endurance Run up hills holding your breath makes your breath limt longer but it is dangerous only sprint up the hill for 10 secs
M0dernWarfare2FAN 1 year ago
Yeah, that wasn't the real McCoy.
First off, don't be in the water when you start. Jump in and go straight under water. Then do a somersault. THEN start your 50 meters without pushing off from the first wall. That's how it's done.
macconnell100 1 year ago
@macconnell100 your comment is 100% true and its explaining the way to do a 50 meter underwater swim "while in evaluation". but what i did here wasnt for an evaluation its was just for practicing purposes (PAST) only. Thanks for watching
stiffler2785 1 year ago
@macconnell100 You forgot one more part, not just everything you said was right but the guys at BUDs have to do this swim after running miles in rough sand, doing endless hardcore PT and then after all the life has been sucked out of them....then they do the 50 meter swim. Although the guy who did the swim in video was impressive, he's still doing it 110% well rested.
MMA3013 1 year ago
@MMA3013 You're absolutely right i was rested but not 110% prior to this video i had been doing water exercises like: threading water, freestyle swims, css etc... Thanks you for your comment and for watching :)
stiffler2785 1 year ago
@MMA3013 You might think I was 110% rested but when I use to train/practice I use to do the entire PAST exercise from beginning to end to simulate the stress and pain I would have to go through. Thanks for watching and for the kind words :)

i wanna get into pararescue badly!i cant wait
galanoth106 1 year ago
what type of workouts did you do to be able to do a 50 underwater? i can do 25s back to back to back etc. pretty easily but i just dont feel like i have enough when i get to the wall to turn around. i already passed my PAST test but i know i will have to do a 50 once i get into indoc.
patrodgers91 1 year ago
@patrodgers91 since your able to do 25meters like nothing. try doing a little more than 25m perhaps try doing 30meters by touching the wall and turning back around for 5meters then try that again increasing 5meters at a time until you can do 1 1/2 pools. once youve reached that confident level try staying focus and relaxed while your underwater ,also try to glide as much as possible with each given arm/leg stroke to conserve as much 02 as possible. once you feel ready go for it but SAFETY FIRST!
stiffler2785 1 year ago 2
@patrodgers91
I was able to do it this summer on my 2nd try, I did push off at the very beginning though. Its mostly just getting past any uncomfortable feelings, and make sure your form is as efficient as possible. Last time I swam was almost a year prior. If you can make it an extra 15 meters to the 40 meter mark, you'll see the end and think "might as well finish it." I don't know for sure, but I think your body goes numb before passing out, but don't take my word for it.
bluejay52431 1 year ago
@bluejay52431 Every time you get that uncomfortable feeling and pressure from the lack of 02 try just pushing a little more so you can build some tolerance little by little. Dont ever try to push over your limit without having someone there looking after you, you could pass out and drown.

hey dude awesome swim im having problems myself the most ive done is 35 i need some tips on the frog kick and the dolphin kick it doesn't seem effective for me i feel like i don't go anywhere when i do it... also in need for tips on the underwater spin you do i always build up a lot of pressure in my head please help...
Sh3neki3 1 year ago
@Sh3neki3 well 35m is very good so tap yourself on the shoulders for that :) as you can see in my video im NOT doing a frog kick, im doing more like a scissors kick just because it works better for me since im not that comfortable with the frog kick. i also do a dolphin kick right after every stroke so it helps me glide further between every arm stroke. i dont do an underwater flip i just turn my body side ways right when im in arms length between me and the wall. [CONTINUED]
stiffler2785 1 year ago
[CONTINUED] as far as the pressure in your head for me to help you i would need to know more in detail: exactly when it is that is happening, what triggers it, where do you feel it in your head and how do you feel after you get this pressure? for some reason youtube wont let me post this comment with a link to a video sorry about that... just look on youtube: How to Swim the Breaststroke Overview of the Breaststroke Leg Movement <<<this is the best video i found on frog kicks. hope i helped :)
stiffler2785 1 year ago
@stiffler2785 well i get the head pressure when i do the spin underwater and ive decided to use a nose plug i always get water up my nose when i do it... ill try doing the kick you did in the video it looks way more affective ive been trying the youtube videos on it but the technique never works for me...im not worried about the underwater because the test for me is 25 under water 3 min res then 25 again and how you do in the 500 meter swim? ive been more worried about doing that plus the 1.5 m
Sh3neki3 1 year ago
@Sh3neki3 lets keep in mind that depriving your body of O2 is a unhealthy and unsafe thing to do since it could lead to injury or even death. therefor you might feel symptoms due to lack of O2 in your body. with that being said your head pressure could be a warning sign that your body is trying to tell you that it can no longer withstand being underwater without air. you did say that you get this "head pressure" when your doing the turn. [CONTINUED]
stiffler2785 1 year ago
@Sh3neki3 [CONTINUED] by the time your doing your turn youve swam 25m underwater, at that moment your body is fighting the high levels of CO2 in your blood and needs fresh O2 PLUS your forcing your body to make a physical turn underwater with the little bit of O2 you have left in your lungs. this turn consumes and requires lots of energy and energy requires..... yep you guesses it Oxygen. try swimming underwater 10 meters towards the wall, then do the turn and see if your still [CONTINUED]
stiffler2785 1 year ago
@Sh3neki3 [CONTINUED] getting this head pressure. my PAST consisted of 2 25meter underwater swims, i forgot how much time i got in between each underwater session. then a 1500 meter freestyle swim i did the freestyle swim in 23 minutes. also a 3 mile run and calisthenics (pushups, situps, pullups, flutterkicks)
let me know if you need more help.
stiffler2785 1 year ago
@stiffler2785 i just want to get the 50 meters in one breath but i tried spins underwater today and it seemed like i loose alot of breath/ oxygen when im doing it

you should try giving yourself a goal as far as distance so every time you swim it should be a bit further or the same NEVER less. also keep in mind swimming underwater is physical but more importantly mental. always keep your mind clear and focus on what your doing at that very moment. even when you feel you have no more air just keep pushing until you absolutely cant no more. by repeating this you should be doing 25m in a week depending how much and how hard you try. 80% mental 20% physical
stiffler2785 2 years ago
well first things first. what is it that is causing you so much trouble that makes it impossible for you to swim 25m underwater? in order for me to help you i need to know what your doing wrong or not doing at all.
stiffler2785 2 years ago
to increase your leg strength i would suggest doing 25m intervals @ 3:00 with a t-shirt and using only your legs. i use a somewhat scissor kick instead of a frog kick. with nothing on but a speedo and facemask, i'm gliding through the water. the shirt is used to create more drag. it will help!!! go easy at first though!!!!
refertroop 2 years ago
You got it im gonna give it a shot today when i get to the pool. Thanks for the tips, if you have anymore bring them this way.
stiffler2785 2 years ago
So i tried the 25m and t-shirt but with intervals @ 2:30 doing 10 reps and Its pretty simple but i definitely feel A LOT slower under water. Now i tried doing it without my arms only my legs and hello there's a challenge! lol
Im gonna keep practicing that way till i do a 50m with t-shirt.
stiffler2785 2 years ago
Your technique in this clip is quite good in general. I suggest trying to leave out those dolphin kicks completely, as they consume lots of oxygen but are very inefficient. You could also focus a bit on training that frog kick, as it is currently more like a scissors kick, which is not as effective. But as I said, otherwise everything seems to work quite nicely and your diving speed is pretty optimal. Neck weight would help a lot, but I guess it's not allowed in the PAST test.
Istindan 2 years ago
Thanks man i appreciate it! Ill try to get rid of the dolphin kick, but i've just gotten so use to it since my frog kick isnt powerful enough.. What do you suggest i do to improve my frog kick/breast stroke kick?
And unfortunately they dont let us use a weight neck for the PAST test.
stiffler2785 2 years ago
nice! is it easier to go slow with more kicking like you did or just do it as fast as you can?
Markyanaros 2 years ago
i wouldnt say im going slow but that im trying to glide as much as possible between each arm pull and kick so that im able to conserve as much energy and oxygen so i can turn back around.
stiffler2785 2 years ago
hmmm i see. ill definitely start doing it that way. my technique is kinda brutal heh
Markyanaros 2 years ago
i find that if i try to glide to long i start floating back to the surface, thats why i tend to go faster i think
Markyanaros 2 years ago
yea that happens to everyone since you still have oxygen in your lungs you tend to float.. just glide as much as possible but dont let yourself get to a complete stop. you'll waste more energy trying to do an arm pull when your at a stop then when you still are moving with a little momentum.
