  • She's gorgeous and has a great smooth voice.

  • some people haven't a clue, ive grown up country, merl haggard, mac davis, charlie rich, ray price, dolly, tonya, crystal, and of course charlie pride, seen them all growing up and now i can add Rissi as one of my all time favorites. race has not and never has been an issue in country music. im just glad Rissi kept it country.

  • I..am....in...love

  • @Abobojo I feel the same way. This is my first time listening to Miss Palmer. Her album is on my must have list. Totally great song. She is very talented. Skin color still matters judging by the comments. Sad sad sad.

  • It's good but it ain't new!

Who was Hank Williams Snr.'s guitar mentor in Greenville, AL back in the day? Not who you woulda thunk. Check it out.

  • @gearoiddom That was Rufus Payne aka Tee Tot

  • @gearoiddom That was Rufus Payne aka Tee Tot a blues guitarist.

  • @SteveSwaffler That's it Steve. An interesting story and far from common knowledge.

  • Wow some of these people are extremely ignorant. Are you serious? Just because she's black, doesn't mean she can't sing country like WTF I'm mixed with black and I sing Taylor Swift songs all day! I don't favor any kind of rap songs, those are not for me. It's mostly country or rock. I for one love this video because it's showing how free this country is. See racist a-holes I'm black, 13, and educated.

  • I wish I heard more Rissi Palmer on the radio. She's very talented. And I think it's great to see some african-american interest in country music. Country seems to have worked out well for Darius Rucker too.

  • Good song and video. Best wishes for a great future!

  • This is a great song, and FUCK all you racist pricks. Are you serious??? It's the 21st century, stop being ignorant assholes.

  • Rissi's got a great voice and I truly appreciate the words of this song... I wish her loads of success...

  • haha yall should add her on myspace lol she has this song up on there! and i love her voice and plus she's a sweetheart lol! love ya Rissi! :)

  • good song lady

  • @ donshan123--Right On! Right On!!!

  • GO RISSI!!!!!!!!!

  • By the way Rissi, you are fine! Are you single.

  • I am so confused at the fact that ppl are being racist because a black woman is singing country music. Eminem is a white guy who raps. Paula Deanda is a latina who sings pop music, but when a black woman sings country music there is racism and prejudice...Why is that?

  • i don't think people should be racist with that...

because a lot of white sings black music

rock and roll, rap, r&b, pop, reagae...

  • Save the youtube drama for ya mama.

  • combatarmsmaniac, don't know about the racist part because I don't know you personally, as for whether or not 'you' (and perhaps a few others) think she's a good singer, Praise the Lord 'your' opinion(s) are not the only ones that matter. One thing though, since 'you' feel this way, why not go to the sites you 'do' enjoy and post your comments there? Oh wait, I get it, why make someone happy when you can 'try' and *p off those you don't? You need prayer sir, God help you.

  • combatarmsmanic, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", as the saying goes. Take the matter of her singing and looks up with the God who made her, and see how He feels about it. Sitting behind that computer taking nasty swipes at people who've never done anything to you personally is really childish. Then again, we "all" reap what we've sown, and you ought to watch yourself because it will come back around to bite you real bad. Disagreement is one thing, your comments are petty.

  • How about you gain a little maturity.

Judge the music only. Race is irrelevant.

  • <3 <3 <3 her! I wish she had more songs and videos out there.

  • hey x she has a whole cd...ITS AWESOME!!!SHE NEEDS TO REALEASE MORE VIDEOS!SHES AWESOME!!! I should request her more so she can blow up even more!!TALENT NEEDS TO SHINE MORE!!! GO RISSI!!

  • Man you are incredibly ignorant. I didn't know that white people owned country music.

  • country music didn't just come from the blues. Majorly inspired yes.

Some of their instruments like the banjo came from African decent but black artists can't take all credit from country because it came from a melting pot of nationalities (like the USA). Native American African English Scottish Irish all played MAJOR roles in the creation of country music.

  • very true....and people like hank sr. and johnny cash were inspired by black blues and gospel respectively....country music belongs to all people...it's too bad that people don't know the history of music...it is the history of people of all kinds and like this country, better because of it.

  • I agree do not compare her to good Ol' pasty. however this song is amazing. but is it really necessary for all this ruckus? you know there have been very few black country singers and kudos to her for becoming successful. this song is about being a country girl where ever your from and it doesn't matter if your black or not .

  • i agree jaybeezeey because i am black and i love country music and i might be a country singer

  • unlikely

  • you know what I mean sing some country when I'm older lol Not a big star

  • The music biz is so over saturated with pop music that almost everything on the radio is overproduced dung no matter what genre it pretends to be in.

This stuff is no different. It's the same stuff that Carrie Underwood and the rest of them put out. People act like it's something more or something great because she's black.

The music biz is struggling with record sales and is putting all it's eggs in one basket now.

  • The biz is putting all it's eggs in one (or ) 2 baskets. Everything now on the radio is basically pop country or hip pop. I hear they even play Miley Cirus on the country station. A teenybopper.

There is no such thing as R&B now... No such thing as Rock Music now... Only thing there is really is overproduced pop music.

  • rocknblues81, "It's the same stuff that Carrie Underwood and the rest of them put out". Yep, but the 'difference' is she has 'heavy' backing to get her records sold, as well as appearances on the 'morning &other shows'. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for Rissi, when was the last time anyone here saw her perform on the GMA or any other type of country music show 'live'? Carrie, Kelly, and the rest are 'in the spot light' at almost every turn, not so for Rissi.

  • rocknblues81, So let me get this straight, she's a puppet because she's doing something she "really LOVES", when others are stuck in dead end 'jobs' that they hate, and will very likely stay with until or unless something else changes."

One thing about country music, you don't need strong vocals. All you got to do is appeal to trashy half wits and young girls with simple minded sentimental lyrics and you got them hooked!

  • purewhitegirl, 3. Cursing the God who made ALL of US are you? When you (and others who feel as you do) finally get to meet Him face to face then we'll see just how brave 'you think' you are. Never said u were a Christian, reference made for those 'purely white' like urself who sometimes 'claim' that category.

    4. "country music will never accept" etc, don't you mean those who sound as racist as you do? 'White genre'..Another big lie that will change in time, with God's help. Nuff said.

  • Love this song!

  • i can`t believe that riaai palmer is a black country singer nd amazing

  • so is Neal McCoy

  • seahawkswashington, Besides 'certain' cases of racism, what do you think would really change in order for 'them' to finally get the recognition they'd need in 'true' country music? Thanks for your input.

  • i think you are dumb, just because a song talks about being country doesnt mean its country music. this is like pop country. and yea there are very popular country singers that still sing true country

  • Yeah, like the Nappy Roots have done some songs about being country, but their actually a rap group. LOL

  • And so is being a president.

  • I'm just curious; what nonsense did purewhitegirl say? Her comment is deleted.

  • Just some bullsh-t comment about country music being a "white genre". She's ignorant.

  • Thank, you honeegirl. You're right. Don't pay her any mind.

  • Oh no problem. As long as people like her exist, we will never come together as a people. We need to start being the United States of America instead of the Divided States of America.

  • ghanboy, her racist rant was something about country being 'white genre', which is nothing but a bunch of nonsense, but because this stupidness 'still continues to this day', it seems like Rissi and others like her will continue to be 'shut out' from the music that they love. The United States of America, I don't think so, as long as the morning news shows won't showcase her 'talent', but those who are nowhere near where she is, why should we be surprised by this? What a sad shame.

  • Wow I can't believe how ignorant you are. Check your history darling. Country music derived from Blues music which was started by African Americans. Furthermore, many country music artists were inspired by a lot of black blues musicians. And go away purewhitegirl, your trailer family is calling you.

  • And furthermore, what in the hell have you done. You're just a hater. Stop hating on Rissi's game and tighten up on yours.

  • purewhitegirl, crazyboy0809, and others who sound as ignorant (sorry to go there) as you all do. If find it amazing that you 'so-called' true country music folk are so 'un-yielding' when it comes to 'letting in anyone else who you think doesn't belong', and "claim" to be christians at that. What god are 'you' serving that'd allow you such racist thoughts? This woman is just as talented than some of the ones now singing. You need to ask God's forgiveness and cut the crap on hatin this woman.

  • wow

  • I drove from Detroit to Escanaba, Mi. (7 hrs.) to see Rissi Palmer in concert. She was the opening act for Sawyer Brown. She was sexy and has a dynamite voice(even better than CD)! After the show, I got to meet her, take pictures with her, and get my CD signed! I would love to see her again!! She also has a travel show coming up on the Travel Channel on the 28th of Feb. '09!! She is a wonderful, humble, Christian lady who deserves much success!!!

  • I've been hooked since first hearing Rissi Palmer. I love her music.

  • I've been hooked since hearing; love her songs.

  • love it

  • This is an amazing song i cant believe in 2009 some people still cant look past skin color.Drop it shes an amazing singer:)

  • A-F******-MEN!!!!!!! She's got both guts and talent! If white people can do soul and hip-hop (like Teena Marie, Eminem, Vanilla Ice), then black people can do rock 'n' roll (like Jimi Hendrix, Living Colour, Hootie, et al) and country (like Charley Pride, 'Cowboy Troy' and of course Rissi).

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHH

  • Believe goes inbetween can't & some LOL oops

  • I can't some of you people!!! You're havin a cow because she's black & singing country music! WHATS YOUR PROBLEM!?!?!?!?!? i'm white & I L♥VE THIS SONG!!!!! God created us ALL! Black, white, brown & whatever other color you can think of! WE ARE ALL THE SAME!!!!

  • Actually I just remembered punk was a British invention that found its way here, so I will take back that part of my comment, the rest of it stays.

  • Dena112:

Actually, punk is an American invention--check out Iggy & the Stooges, one of the earliest punk rock groups (a full decade before the term "punk" was even coined) and they were from the Detroit area. Also check out another punk rock group (an all-black one) from Detroit called Death, who are just now getting their due. Most of the British punk rock groups were influenced by the Stooges & other garage rock bands of the late 60's/early '70's. I like this "Country Girl" song--it's catchy

  • never seen this vid on gac or cmt. really like it.

  • For your information she was offered a contract by Terry Lewis and Jimmy Jam but she didn't want to sing that kind of music and decided to go with country instead. I am a Black woman and I love country music too. And I am not going to stop liking it because of racists like you. You go Rissi, she should be able to sing the music she loves.

  • Please there wouldn't be any country if it wasn't for Black folks! So it is our music anyway! Deal with it! Blues/jazz were the first American music ever!!!! From blues, you got rock n roll, country and every other genre from punk to hip hop(by the way, Hank Williams Jr called country the White man's blues-which shows he knows country is based on blues which is black music!) So baby we included you-you didn't include us!

And that little girl-it is her room so she can go in if she wants!

  • Go lay with your cousin.

  • Really? Now that I did not know. That is some very interesting information. I'm glad Rissi Stuck to her guns and sung country.

  • rocknblues81, So let me get this straight, she's a puppet because she's doing something she "really LOVES", when others are stuck in dead end 'jobs' that they hate, and will very likely stay with until or unless something else changes. You and others who've never met, nor understand Rissi, can say whatsover you choose because you're not walking in her shoes (and never will) so in truth it really doesn't matter what you say or think about her or anyone else.

  • Great song! Love it!

  • I totally fail to understand what difference the color of the skin makes when a person is entertaining me. I could care less, as long as their music makes me feel good. This is a great song, and it doesn't matter if she's black or white. People, it's 2008, ok!

  • beechat,(#1) While your comments make 'perfect sense in a perfect world', in Rissi's case I'm beginning to ask 'what the holdup' is when it comes to her not being "show-cased" in a better manner than what's going on with her now? This woman is a fabulous singer, yet NOT one of the major tv (or morning shows for that matter 'GMA', 'The Today Show', etc.) stations has shown her face (so to speak) so that the rest of the world can hear and see what they're missing. What's up with that?

  • Country, like all music genre's is guided by the fans. Like it or not, the fans want white performers. Case closed.

  • daddysgurinash, If it's 'guided' by closed minded fans such as yourself, I'm not a bit surprised but it's also amazing how some of you so-called 'country folk' seem to be 'threatened' by people who although are not white, LOVE country music just the same. God made each and EVERY one of us, so why don't you take it up with Him and see what He has to say about it? Hard heart, hard head, etc. God help each and every one of you. I thank Him for being nothing like you, or we'd ALL be in trouble.

  • Yeah, well apparently even the white country audience want to see somebody different doing country for a change, or Ms. Palmer and the guy from Hootie wouldn't be so successful. The case is STILL open, despite what you're saying.

  • honeegrrl writes:

"Well country music has always had African Americans you just have to look for them."

I TOTALLY agree with you it's just that I am sooo happy we are seeing more and more African American's creeping into Country Music and by the way I am white. :)

We are all human and should be equal no matter what skin color we have. :)

If someone reply's to my comment and I'm seeing that in my messages how do I find that person's comment on youtube to reply back to them? Thanks!! :)

  • kalmanizer, Excuse me for butting in here, but I wanted to say a special word of "thanks" to you for what you'd written, I just find it very sad what some people have written here (daddysgurinash comments speaks volumes to me, and makes me wonder if this is part of the reason why Rissi's career hasn't progressed as far as it could have, when it comes to the country music genre in association with blacks especially?). I deeply apologize but really wonder if she were white, how far along she'd be?

  • @ jebeja

Thank you VERY much for the compliment!! :-)

I am also Jewish&most Jewish people I know do NOT like Country Music.I LOVE being different from other people.I am also EXTREMELY ADHD&I am VERY hyper&sumtimes ppl can't understand my hyper personality but I wouldn't change myself for the world.I always say what's wrong with being different so long as I am NOT hurting ne1?I have also been married2my GORGEOUS wife for 5yrs&known each other for 6yrs.She loves my unique personality. :-)

  • really? i bet thats what every other race says lol. white people been stealing from people of color ALWAYS. ain't no such thing as purity Love. mixing is what gives things flavor. Get on board or get out of the way.

  • This is ridiculous. How dare you compare this to Patsy Cline.

  • daddysgurinash, So what you've been playing country music for years, so have blacks, latinos, and a few other races you don't even know about (or probably care to know about). God made each and "every" one of us, and if that bothers you, then you should take it up with the God who made you and ALL of us. 'Music' in itself 'belongs' to NO one race and if you believe that you ought to have your head examined. Your comments sound almost like racism, and you ought to check yourself and get a grip.

  • Im not a racist, Im a realist, and I like my music white.

  • I didn't know that music was owned by white people and white people did not invent country music. And if you like your music white then you shouldn't support the white musicians and singers because a lot of their inspiration comes from black music.

  • Comment removed

  • @honeegrrl no one group invented it as far as I know.

  • "gottarockman, I do not understand what you meant by what you wrote, because her music is no different from what 'other' country music singers perform, and she's just as devoted to it,and her country as well. Get to see her in person and then come back and tell me what you think. When I see and read what you've written here, it doesn't surprise me that her music might not be catching on"

This is hillbilly pop. The color of the person singing it doesn't change that.

  • I love Rissi Palmer. And her music's really good, too. She is absolutely gorgeous and she can sing.

  • make your living gurl. I seen u on BET I said what lol. But I a country gurl. and heard all this BS still going on. I hate to see all kids heard all this BS over music. I remember Charlie Pride back in the day I can imagine what he was up against.

  • Country music derived from blues music which was sung and still is sung by black artists.

  • i love her so much

  • tracto2012, I feel the same but what they're doing to her by not giving her the chance to be 'showcased' more on other country music shows that are televised around the nation leaves alot to be desired. Rissi has devoted her life to the music that she 'LOVES' the MOST, and that's country but I'm not sure if the 'CMA' really believes this. I give her kudos for keeping at it though. God be with and Bless her.

  • i'am black and love this song :)

  • Damn! this girl is good!

  • I don't understand why other people feel the need to put other people down when building someone else up.

  • They do it because they don't have anything positive going on in their lives so they put others down to build themselves up and make themselves feel better.

  • All I can say is WOW. I'm an old school hard rock convert to country. This stuff beats that Dolly Pardon and Hank williams junk.

  • lol yeah she doesnt beat them but ohter older ones yeah

  • I love Rissi Palmer. She is incredible. Right up their with the greats of country music. I'm a big fan of Dolly Parton and it is difficult for anyone to be as great. Rissi is as great and will be around for years to come like Dolly. Tearing one person down to build another up is immature. I hope Dolly and Rissi do a duet. That would be amazing. Go Rissi and if you do meet Dolly in Nashville, tell her we love her. We love you to Rissi. Your are an incredible singer.

  • i usally hate country music but i LOVE this!!!!!!

  • my mom loves this song and loves country songs and this is just like her lol

  • i love this song.....and its totally true

  • and the red house at the beginning is where he used to live.

  • this video was shot in west memphis, arkansas. the farm scenes were shot on my grandfather's farm..

  • Finley a song saying good things about Arkansas

  • Its great to see a girel from round my neck of the woods rockin with the country!!!!!

  • Great singing.

  • St. Louis Represent

  • I completely agree with brightsmile! music can reflect the lives of the people singing them and that in turn brings everyone closer together!

  • Yes she will, she can make it!! I think its great she is doing country!! Im African American and i enjoy country music!! :-) Eminem is a white rapper and is amazing as a rapper!! Please try and be color blind!! music is music...it it what brings people together it should not be segregated!!!!

  • Amen to that!

  • brightsmile, While your comments are on target, I've also come to see just how hard this young and extremely talented woman, seems to be swimming against the tide when it comes to the music that she loves the best. Also, while race 'should not' be a factor here, sadly I believe it might still play a large part in why her music hasn't gotten the "boost" it should have by now. I ask myself would she have been further ahead in her career had her skin color been 'different', and pray that I'm wrong.

  • i bet she will make it good song people r going to be stupid and hate go girl!!!

  • rissi rocks 11

  • i flippin love this song!!!!

  • Rissi Palmer is amazing, all her songs have really deep meanings, and I met her. Shes the most down to earth person you'll meet. Shes had quite the broken heart, but it done wonders for her song writing skills. I love Rissi.

    ~Leyn~

  • I love this song i live in a city but I'm all country!

  • u need to take a pill soni she sings quite well, dont be racist

  • Great

  • I don't think so,I'd like her songs as the future of the country music,if u think music is not for the world for all kinds of people,is just for your pathetic old community only, you can go back there don't ever come out.

  • gottarockman, I do not understand what you meant by what you wrote, because her music is no different from what 'other' country music singers perform, and she's just as devoted to it,and her country as well. Get to see her in person and then come back and tell me what you think. When I see and read what you've written here, it doesn't surprise me that her music might not be catching on, because your comments sound vague and clouded in misunderstandings. Sad shame all the way around.

  • Okay i dont know what your listening too, because her voice is amazing. I have never ever liked country music, and im really into this song. And so far your the only one here with negative comments, so i dont think its her voice that your not liking. You say she would never be accepted into country music, why is that? because she is black??? A persons skin color has nothing to do with their talent, which she obviously has.

  • Hmmm and what have you done? Sounds to me like you're a hater and you're mad to see someone doing something with their life. Don't hate her game, tighten up on yours.

  • very well said!

  • Why thank you :-)

  • @soniam09 you need to realize that your opinions do not matter :(

  • Crazy Country And Cool.

  • Very cool!!!what a woman,we don't see too many black artists singing country music, but this is time for them to shout out to the world, look how wonderful she is!

  • LOVE IT!!!!!and i agree compleatly with this song!!!

  • YUMMY!

  • I love this song...I ran across this song surfing the net. Speaking as a black wowen, who grew up between NC/SC and who grandpa listen to Conway Twenty and others..."U Go Girl"

  • her voice reminds me alot of Leanna Rhymes..especaily when Leann sings Nothing better to do!!!

  • You're damn good!!!

    Mike Johnson

  • decent song...kinda weird seein a black person singing country tho...

  • I had no clue this singer was black....wow...thats cool.

  • I hope this doesn't mean you're not gonna buy her songs from iTunes now that you know she's Black.

    LOL! totally jk w/u

  • no...im cool with it....I dont buy from iTunes to begin with...

  • this SONG IS NOW MY OFFICIAL THEME I was born in monroe county in alabama and u know its country...IM A COUNTRY GIRL..moved to the city in montgomery alabama

  • I LOVE Rissi Palmer...being from St. Louis...

Its really sad that country music is still pushed just for white people...there have been black country artist, not just Cowboy Troy.

I'm black and I like country music...I get strange looks but I LOVE country music because I can understand every word that they say and there is usually a great message behind every song. I feel its more Godly too.

  • I would like to see a lot more blacks in country music. I am white. They have such nice voices. I think black people would enjoy county music much more now than 25 years ago, since many of the country songs today have a rock to country beat and not a boring bluegrass beat.Risi Palmer is total dynamite. This is great country.

  • I think you're on to something. However, I personally think Shania Twain is the total truth. Of course, my opinion is somewhat biased, I think Shania Twain is HOT.

I also seriously like Bonnie Raitt

  • Shania Twain is totally awesome and so is Sarah Evans, but by favorite is The female artist of the year and her name is Carrie Underwood.

Some of country music is now country rock, which allows Rissi Palmer to make an easier transition. I love country music, period. How can I leave out Jennifer Nettles.

  • OMG...I love you! I try to tell people that, but i get weird looks too...Im glad you understand that lol

  • yes more people that understand

  • I think if she wanted to sing R&B she could. Not all R&B singers can actually sing anyway.

  • Not a good one

  • It's about time!!!! Catchy song, wonderful talent! I hope she is around for a long time.

  • liking a black country singer will make rednecks feel not-so racist now.

  • LOL

You kill me. Rissi is cool. I still love Shania and Faith best though. I'm black too, by the way;) Nice to see more of us black country music lovers coming out of the closet.

  • That voice is amazing. I crank it whenever I hear it. W O W!!!

  • Rissi Palmer is AMAZING!! She has a GORGEOUS voice!! I LOVE her song called "Anybody Out There." If you go to her myspace page called myspace . com / rissipalmer you can listen to the song there.

Keep up the GREAT work Rissi Palmer. :-)

  • I am soooo happy that Country Music finally got an African American girl.

People think that it is weird that I LOVE Country Music soooo much as well because I am from Brooklyn NY. Country Music is the most hated genre of music in New York City and yet Country Music is my favorite genre of music. :-)

  • Do you know how happy I am about her? I feel like I'm the only one that loves country music. I live in white bread Kansas and me listening to country music is like a sin, Kansas of all place acts like I'm an alien, my dad is in the Army so unfortunately I'm here, but I lived in GA for 8 years and VA for 3, and amy family is from Jacksonville, FL so listening to country music isn't weird, I just hate the cross eye looks I get from ppl because my skin color and the music I listen to.

  • Please,do not not be scared to enjoy the thinks that set you part from others. I go to a lot of R&B concerts, where most of the artists are black. I go because they are good. If the black artist was lousy I would say it.I love Beyonce and Ciera, but I love Risi Palmer, Jennifer Nettles and Carrie Underwood. Go Risi!

  • Well country music has always had African Americans you just have to look for them.
