  • Ben, the film is amazing! What a great tribute to this great place.

It was so great working with all you guys! I hope we'll cross paths again.

  • I showed the last film. I showed the first fikm when it reopened as the Carlton. It was a great place to be.

  • Fantastic Cinema, one of the great last remaining 30s Cinemas. A great loss to the city of Portsmouth.

  • A great little cinema it was THE flagship of Cannon Films when it went through its 3 screen conversion! I worked there as a projectionist! and moved on to other Cannon Cinemas. Those were the days when you were proud to be part of the cinema. Screen 1 was THE biggest screen on the south coast about 60 feet wide! As for Marks comment about Ghostbusters, it actually played at Christmas! I miss the staff as we were all like one big family!

  • I spent alot of my youth in there.. I watched Ghostbusters 6 times that summer Holiday!!.. loved it!.. My Auntie used to work there so i didnt have to pay either. think it used to be the Cannon Cinema back then :)

  • The poster signs outside, are the original installations from the ABC (EMI) and Cannon Cinema era.

  • Such a lovely old cinema, a big loss to the city, shame they had to knock it down R.I.P Carlton Cinema

  • Thanks Ben.

  • my gran lives near hampshire and all i can remember goin there

is seeing these doors openin and the men say which screens are openin

one of the men smiled at me and said "hello there, enjoy the movie" and my gran thnaked the man and after the movie and i did enjoy the screen

its better than all the cinemas down here

    too bad it's closed :'(

  • Fight for the cinema's in your surroundings... or something..

    getting better and better

  • A lovely tribute to this wonderful cinema. I supported this cinema regularly in its final years and all too often there was only a dozen or so people in the audience when I went there. If the number of customers as seen in this vid could have been sustained then the Carlton would have still been with us. I tried to make it for that final evening but alas I could not. Yet I did see the original The Exorcist here so that will be my fondest memory of this cinema.

  • Hi Ben. Brillinat video. Very sad also that aniother nice cinema has closed.
