The Olympic Torch in San Francisco's entire route had to be aborted, because of the massive protests. Instead, only short run down Van Ness, then even with a huge military police presence, they could no longer continue. THE TORCH HAD TO BE TAKEN BY BOAT, to get out, in middle of procession. They hoped to go BY BOAT to final destination, but too many protesters, so Final ceremony not at BIG Stage, but only private ceremony at airport, in disgrace. Buenes Aires, show your conscience!

You can't look at those two situation in the same light! Californians enjoy the same rights of free speech and so on as the rest of America. Tibetans and many other groups are oppressed in China. Even the Chinese people that support the government are oppressed. The difference here is that China was supposed to make progress in terms of human rights before the games. But they did not. They violated a greater Olympic constitutional rule than protestors who tried to extinguish the flame.
