I don't know if you're joking or not, but I'll explain anyway... Calgary is known for it's stampede and until Calgary officially became a city, most of the southern part of Alberta was entirely farm land. In fact, there was a grain elevator about twenty minutes from my apartment until about 10 years ago. and even though it may not be as popular anymore, Ranchman's (the bar in the movie) is still around.
