What a super project you have going !! I love the look and sound of the Jag V12,
And very innovative project with the ECU,
Hats off to you for taking the time to learn all of the Dam in's and out's of the devil's spawn ECU. :).
I am an electronics Eng. and loath electronics in any car. Hell even a stereo.I would rather listen to the engine and exhaust note Or listen for the bang of a rod haha.
Do not need to tell you to be careful while in the ME but Be careful.!!
@Colt45GTO hi, please see the later videos with everything connected. The car is on hold at the moment as i live in the Middle East. The Engine runs beautifully on all 12.
@Nicktruman yes sorry nick i possibly done what many done and commented without watching the other vids.
i have had 2 V12 HE XJS's i'm a mechanic on large complicated engines. it just sounded like it was missing, maybe its the exhaust tone? but even the later vids, it just doesn't sound right.
@Colt45GTO The manifolds are wrong, the standard manifolds pointed out the wrong way so i had to fab something to get the gasses out of the back. I would like to get a pair of 6 branches made, but as I#m not there its hard doing it remotely. The exhaust is off a Ferrari Mondial so the sound is different :) Also don't forget it has not been tuned, the ECU is homemede, its running twin Ford V6 coil packs on a wasted spark (2 cyls fire together) setup.
Hi. the turbos are Nissan 200zx garrett T28s. In this video only the exhaust is connected, in later videos they are correctly plumbed in. As the car has never been really used under load it is hard to guess what boost will be achieved - but due to the V12s compression ration 9:1 it will have to be limited to about 1 bar.
Would you have any photos of the intake manifold and turbos setup on the engine? And maybe the wastegate too? I assume you fabricated most of the plumbing into the Jaguar intake so almost any turbo would have done the job? Or is there any special reason you chose the garett T28s?
I have a pre-HE (in the form of an XJ12), but sadly with 4x Strombergs. No Turbos for me :(
The T28s are readily available on ebay for not alot of money! there are loads of pictures on the photobucket website or send me your email address, To connect the turbos to the V12 manifold i made a flange that connects to thje Nissan 300 intercooler. In the flange is an outlet for the BOV and on one side the MAT sensor,
obsolutely insane. i have seen the zondas up close, and hopefully you are able to replicate their beauty. i have major respect for people for people like you
Hi, the transaxle, flywheel and clutch are all from Audi 80/90. The adapter plate is made from 13mm alloy plate and cut by hand. I don't think anyone would make a plate to fit an Audi transaxle to a Jag V12!
Have read about this car a couple times on the locost builders forum, think its a really interesting idea. Will be subscribing to your vids to see what the finished article looks like once you get round to it.
That sounds gorgeous!! This is the newer V12 from an 80's era Jag, right? Not an old E-type? (Had an E-type...OMG girls LOVE that car....) Looks like you did a great job! Is it the Audi turbo 016 gearbox?
Hi!, The engine is a 1978 5.3 V12, its on a re -he and its not an HE, seems to be a 1/2 way between. I changed the injectors to earlier ones to get more fuel. The gearbox is an Audi 012x box, same as the Audi 80s. they cost next to nothing and are readily available and quite strong. If it breaks might consider upgrading it. However Audi rallied cars with these boxes!
That looks like a moving sofa with bigass engine in it! That that big ass canister exhaust off and run straight thru pipes from turbos only. Bet your neighbours love you after that :)
dear God!

@rustyprince100 Very true, but they are in the later videos, this was the 1st time the car moved on its own

you may have finished this now but... those turbo's go nowhere they are surpost to be hooked into the intake.
all thats happening at the moment is its choking the hell out of that 5.3 that sounds like its a cylinder or two down anyway.
what part of the country are you?

Awesome looking thing. I've love to do something similar one day. What garbox and diff have you used.

Those are tiny!
I had a .63 /.48 T3 on a Thunderbird Turbocoupe, which is a 2.3L 4cyl engine. It regularly saw 18psi and never had any issues.

these engines run so hot I am shocked that you could actually sit there and idle . . .

Sure it gets warm but coolant never gets over hot, and it idles beautifully. It also drive now (see later vids)

I like your idea what kind of transaxle did you use? did you find adaptor plate for it at kennedy engineering? I will appreciate your response

Hmm, I wonder how long will the Audi transmission hold up against that engine? Isn't that too weak?

Actually, my mistake!...mines a single inlet and yours is obviously a twin inlet. I cant get over how similar they are though.
iamthefatstig 3 years ago
The exhaust is for a 3.4l V8, the inlets are about 75mm in diameter - even so a tad too small for the V12!
As soon as the car is SVA'd i will run it without a back box as the turbo's mute the engine anyway.
Nicktruman 3 years ago
Well there ya go! lol, I have the exact same one on my MGF!....The end finishers are interchangable.
iamthefatstig 3 years ago
Looks like an MGF backbox?

No, its the exhaust from a Ferrari Mondial
