@PatrioticPirate No problem. A lot of good game shows would never work today because of this Jerry Springer generation of dumbed down reality shows. Word shows are great, but the contestants are not the best.
Here's what is messed up about Chain Reaction. This is a great show. I actually liked the remake on GSN. The problem isn't the game itself. It was the ineptiude of the stupid contestants who had no idea what word association is. They even had to dumb down the bonus game because of the contestants. I was unwatchable. Only because of the contestants!
@MrBlackSW That's my point! I've been screaming about how contestants nowadays can't play the game! I KNEW it wasn't just me! Thank you for the observation!
To break down that first chain, when LIGHTNING comes down during a storm, it makes a STRIKE, which is a call made during a game of BASEBALL, which is played on a DIAMOND, which can be found in a RING, which is a sound made by a TELEPHONE, which is sometimes found in a BOOTH, who is the man who shot LINCOLN.
The game is... The (New/$40,000) Chain Reaction! And here's your host, Geoff Edwards!
This was the intro used for the version broadcast on USA Network from 1987-1991 using the same theme as the 1980 version. This version was taped in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Dylan Lane? Bah. Bill the Master at work once again. Incidentally, whatever happened to "You may not have another letter with that word, which means there's only one more letter in it"?
I totally agreed with that comment. David Letterman's morning talk show was a farcical embarrassment for the NBC Television Network in June 1980. "Chain Reaction" should have stayed on the NBC Television Network until June 1982. Good Morning!!
I love this theme. Since the 1970's were ending it is a great reminder of this distant past from when Chain Reaction debuted. As per Bob Stewarts trademark sets: chase lights and solid colors he would also bring in catchy theme music that we would be humming for days to come. Of all of the theme songs I have reviewed this is my favorite. That is because of the catchiness and the classic feel it has.
The Object of Chain Reaction is to Create a Chain of Words, Such as This One:
CAPTAIN
PLANET
HOLLYWOOD
SQUARE
DANCE
HALL
MONITOR

Good game shows work today because Contestants are VERY SMART!

There is no good reason this show couldn't survive as a network show today. Just get some new smarter contestants!

Thats just another example of how dumb contestants can kill a show.

@secondchance1977 And wouldn't you know, the exact same fate befell GSN's version.
But it wasn't just the retard contestants that killed it; Dylan Lane was stiffer than a 2-by-4!

I, honestly, liked the USA version best. It was the only version that had kept the same endgame throughout its entire run.

I remember the show very well- with Bill Cullen as host, it was a nice little show that should have lasted longer!

Blame David Letterman...

@Hondo20132 True. Also blame Fred Silverman. This show would've lasted another 3 or 4 years had he'd not greenlit Letterman's failed daytime show.

This theme is supposedlhy called "Thru Train."

I think this is a remix of a song supposeldy called thru Train which was used on "Super Train"
secondchance1977 3 years ago
That it was. Bob Cobert composed both themes, and it was so well remembered that they took this little known theme to be used for a game show. nice!
