Tell me of a book that's been filmed in perfection, the only one coming close is: The Body from Stephen King, and even there they didn't put the complete ending in the film....would be too brutal. @crazypetronila Celie is forced into marrying Mr who doesn't treat her properly. She wants to be with her sister and her two kids who were taken away from her just after birth. She doesn't know what happened to the kids. She meets other women who give her strength to break out of her prison of domestic abuse and live her own life. Absolutely stunning film in every way. There's so much to it, I can't put it all here. Watch it.

waste of time.too long & melodramatic. i wish the scene where Mister tears Nettie away from Celie away had been more brutal (ie. him bashing in her skull, etc. and what did the color purple have do to with this movie anyway? Also, I read that Mr. Spielberg regrets not depicting the lesbian relationship between Celie & Shug. Goldber or whatever her name is isn't even a good actress (let alone not beautiful; she's as ugly as feces). Oprah was good, though. I agree with PrincessWizard about women
