Just a few things you may already know but I'll say anyway. By each door to another section, the number of that area is written on the wall in Japanese. All 4 seals have numbers 1 through 4 on them in Japanese. Finally, in a certain puzzle later in the game, the numbers, some of which are important, also appear in Japanese. Common knowlege yes, but it could be helpful to remember for novice ruin explorers. Also, at one point I actually did try to type "Umbrella". Nothing happened.

It's not japanese, it's LaMulanese, if you watch in the game files you'll see that it's no japanese because there's another font for japanese. And, what's the point of the riddle later on for japanese people if the numbers are already in japanese?
