hahaha! Flying to Newark from Edinburgh Scotland in 5 weeks, we are on a 757, it has the personal tvs, i hope we get this it looks so fun! And 7 hours and 45 mins is a long time, so i will need something extra to pass time!
dont worry, by the end of 2010, continental guaranteed that all domestic flights will have direcTV onboard. they already have it on all their 737-900ER's, 7 of their 737-800's, and 1 of their 737-900's.
I am going on one as well, and from my family members it turns out the AVODs are very good, with a surprising number of selections- according to the website, about 350.
To add to my previous comment, regarding movie selections, it's all in the luck of the draw. There'll usually be a variety of classics, children's features, popular favourites and of course some of the latest blockbusters. CO does update the movie selections regularly so you might have better luck next time :-)
CO's 757-200 aircraft have AVOD and not liveTV because they fly mostly internationally. No in-flight entertainment system on ANY airline will feature both AVOD and satelllite TV. It's either one or the other. Starting in 2009 however CO will start installing liveTV onto its domestic fleet of 737NG's, 753's and a couple of 737 classics. Who knows, if you take this same flight one year from now you might be on an aircraft that has liveTV!
Then I stand corrected. Most airlines don't have both, it's either one or the other. Having AVOD means carrying around equipment that has significant weight. So why would an airline that's offering liveTV on an aircraft also want to carry extra weight for an additional type of entertainment option? Will customers choose Delta because they offer both avod AND liveTV? Not likely. MOST airlines wouldn't opt to do this. It increases cost. But if Delta wants to go that route, it's their prerogative.
@tristanhnl You don't stand correct because you said "No in-flight entertainment system on ANY airline will feature both AVOD and satelllite TV" NOT "Most airlines don't have both". Customers would choose Delta for that reason. Why would they install it then? It would be a waste of money. A long domestic flight, you would want to watch your shows and some movies. People with kids would like there kids to be occupied with a bit of both worlds. You stand incorrect. . .
