You're right, stories need interesting plots to be good. The shows I listed have amazing plots, some gore, and none of them are based on mass murder. If you had read the comments below mine, you'd realize that I was defending good animes. Before you post anything on the internet 'fullmetal891' please learn to spell. It's hard to call someone stupid when you can't spell 'serious' correctly. It's equally difficult to call someone ignorant when your argument has no direction what so ever.
Well... my bad... one more person died because of his heavy wounds at the 16th of June in the same year... well... this shows how babaric and cellos humans are...
Obviously the song can be both dedicated to people who died in the civil wars, which happened in Ireland and in Kenshin's story during the Tokugawa Shogunate of late 1850's and mid 1860's. And thousands of people died with that war too and opened Japan to the Western civilization.

Obviously you dont know what the song really means.
"You know people are dying every single day through bitterness and hate, and we're saying why? What's the point? And you can move that into places like El Salvador and other similar situations - people dying"
Excellent AMV... Some people really thinks nowadays anime is not serious or responsible, or not even consider it art. Get educated about anime culture and only then make a good opinion instead nonsense.
That's because most, only see anime shows such as Naruto, Pokemon, Bleach, Inuyasha, Blood+, and other kid friendly animes that are intended to be stupid and irritating. They have yet to see the better side, with things like Blood the Last Vampire, Vampire Hunter D, Spriggn, Akira, Princess Mononoke, Berserk, Samurai X, etc.
it's true but animes such as naruto and bleach are fun to watch, however i agree with you when it comes to the art of anime such series do not justify it

This was one of the first amv's I saw, way back in... geez, 2000 when it debuted. I can see the flaws of it now, but it's still better than most. It captures the feeling of civil revolution present in the song and the Kenshin OAVs, and taps out its point well.
This is deffinatly one of my favorite AMVs, and also to you people that think this is insulting the 13 deaths of this event, I think of it as honoring them in his own way.
Lol.. wow. I read some of the comments for this vid, good read. I gotta say I've never seen people act so freakin' stupid about an AMV before. Yeah, you're right. The anime was about a real historical civil war that happened in Japan were THOUSANDS of people died. This song is too pathetic to live up to the bloody legacy of the Bakumatsu in Japan.
Really, applying a song about 13 people dying to a bloody civil war? Complete shite.
Oh wait, or were you being culturally ignorant of Japan and assuming they had a less bloody history than Northern Ireland?
you know what i think is funny, all you guys are missing the piont of the song, its about not fighting and its exactly what your all doin, no wonder nobady ever stands up and tries to change the world, because every one fights and bitches ove rit all anyways...

And the ones who keep bring the meaning of song and telling everybody you dont know the meaning of song well since you are all about the songs meaning then you know its about anit-hate so why is it you are showing so much anger and hate towards this little ole AMV which is complete opposite of the songs meaning. So it is a really well made AMV.

No you faggit this song was about a masscre in Northern Ireland during the troubles, would you like it if someone fucking used a song about genocide and put it with a fucking cartoon show?
In the end of the 18th century(?), Japan went through a turbulent change. This MOVIE is about the violence, mostly in Kyoto, during that era. Kenshin isn't a samurai- he's an assasin. If this song weren't already stated to be about an event in Europe, it could very well go along with this story as well. Maybe if you'd actually seen the movie, you would understand why this is a good amv. Get your facts right before being an ass.
So you're saying this song can't apply to other movies that match the theme? In the words of Svetlana, is pizza only pizza if it's made by Italians? I really don't think U2 would be making as big a deal over it as you are. It's an amv.
For heaven's sake, people.. The song is for the massacre, but for the sake of this amv, it fits. If you read that historical comment I had earlier, you would have seen that I already answered your question. I'm not going to repeat myself: This song fits the movie, and just because it was about a different event does NOT mean that it can't go to an amv as well. Can't you guys be flexible? It isn't a big deal.

What the fuck?? bloody sunday was about a masscre during the troubles in which British Troops Shoot innocent catholics during a civil rights protest read fucking wikipedia. it wasn't about Suki suki wahki su su nasilihu crap.

Owing to the continued presence of The Troubles in Ireland more than twenty years after the song's debut" so it is about Ireland dumbass, lol
Then your dad is retarded. He probably didn't say that. This song was DEFINETLY not made for the anime. Why don't you google it and see what its REALLY about?
omg, the song is not about anime, it's about "Bloody Sunday" (January 30, 1972) in which 26 Civil Rights protesters were shot, and AMG states that Bono did write the song on the event.
you are seriously a retard you really need serious mental help and tell you dad to come over here and saay that to my face and the familys of the 13 innocent people who were killed
"You know people are dying every single day through bitterness and hate, and we're saying why? What's the point? And you can move that into places like El Salvador and other similar situations - people dying" from the band.

Ooh ooh! I know! January 30, 1972 a regiment of British paratroops shot and killed 13 unarmed demonstrators who had been taking part in a civil rights march in Londonderry (Derry). The British later tried to justify the action by claiming that some of the protesters had handled weapons at some point during the day. This event became known as "Bloody Sunday" and inspired numerous reprisal bombings by the IRA.
That's not what the song is about, the band them selves said the song can be applied to anywhere
"You know people are dying every single day through bitterness and hate, and we're saying why? What's the point? And you can move that into places like El Salvador and other similar situations - people dying"
So the song can't be applied because it is about a bloody part in Northern Ireland's history and the anime was about a bloody part in Japan's history?
Wow, this is amazing. Perfect timing and everything. This is my favorite U2 song, and you did a beautiful job putting into an AMV. I'm just....wow. Flat-out WOW.
I.. sort of have to agree with the bad taste. The song is actually quite sad, and it has nothing to do with Japan. It was originally about the massacre in Dublin, right? 1972..? I think my dates are messed up. But, yeah, I got into U2 through this video, so I guess it's good. And I don't even like anime much. xP
We're into the politics of people, we're not into politics. Like you talk about Northern Ireland, 'Sunday Bloody Sunday,' people sort of think, 'Oh, that time when 13 Catholics were shot by British soldiers'; that's not what the song is about.
That's an incident, the most famous incident in Northern Ireland and it's the strongest way of saying, 'How long? How long do we have to put up with this?' I don't care who's who - Catholics, Protestants, whatever.
You know people are dying every single day through bitterness and hate, and we're saying why? What's the point? And you can move that into places like El Salvador and other similar situations - people dying
If you think it's bad taste then you need to do some research on Japanese history. The time period this anime is based on was known as the Bakumatsu and it turned Japan from a class based medieval society to a modern egalitarian society. It was indeed a very bloody affair. 27 people died on Bloody Sunday, but thousands died in the Bakumatsu. Kyoto was even burned to the ground at one point and many innocent people lost their lives.
this is so old, so good, not too sure if start credits are correct, something tells me no... does ne1 have the death metal amv? dont remember wut tis called, but at the end it goes into nice harmonics..
I remember this video from a long ass time too--it's definitely one of the best AMV's around, even now. So many people make AMV's and they're total garbage, and they put it up without hesitation. This is definitely a masterpeice that was made with lots of planning and thought. I love it.
The Bakumatsu in Japan was an incredibly bloody affair. If you've seen the OAV that this AMV is based on you'd understand that as it is based on historical events. You saying it is bad taste is kind of like saying that 27 Irishmen's lives are worth more than those killed in Japan during that bloody period in their history. I think the song fits in well.
This had to be one of my first AMVs.. I kept this with me and watched it quite a bit. One of the best song fits for an anime. Great song, great anime, great fit:). Here is Kenshin Episode 1 from the TV show (this AMV is off the OAV).
wow....no really..i saw this video like 3-4 years ago... i can't believe i found it...brings back some memories actually. you were the one who made this amv? if you did, you did a GREAT job.
LOL, No, I WISH I made this! I didn't mean MINE, I meant first I had seen. Ya, this is such a great one, great fit to the music. Suprising how a song about Ireland (U2) and Japan (Kenshin) worked.
I have seen this video for years...thanks for posting it. If you made it, you're really amazing. This is one of the AMVs that got me started making them. Just an amazing video. The editing, the music, and the anime itself just fit like peices of a puzzle.
This and Evangelion's 2 AMV's Closer & We in this 2gether are the best AMV'S of all time hands down, nope cant fuck wit it

Perhaps its not the same as the original intent, however Kenshins entire story is about penance for his past bloodshed. So in a sense, it works.
Either way though, nicely done.

Ooh ooh!

Dridien 3 years ago
So the song can't be applied because it is about a bloody part in Northern Ireland's history and the anime was about a bloody part in Japan's history?
I think you are the one missing the point.

Beautiful. The only thing I can say.

Even though it is a sad song, and a very sad story. I have to say, I love it!!
It is the best video made of fans from samurai-X. love it. I almost start to cry when I see it.
but I wish it showed more of Tomoe. She is his weak spot. its beautiful.

I.. sort of have to agree with the bad taste. The song is actually quite sad, and it has nothing to do with Japan. It was originally about the massacre in Dublin, right? 1972..? I think my dates are messed up. But, yeah, I got into U2 through this video, so I guess it's good. And I don't even like anime much. xP

You got the date right but it was in derry not dublin

I think it's quite a timeless theme the song presents. Timeless and placeless.

Wow, I was so in love with Rurouni Kenshin back then. I had this amv b4, DL-ed on Kazaa. It's still a great song & show!

Here is Kenshin Episode 1 from the TV show (this AMV is off the OAV).

wow....no really..i saw this video like 3-4 years ago... i can't believe i found it...brings back some memories actually. you were the one who made this amv? if you did, you did a GREAT job.
j0j0t0 5 years ago
LOL, No, I WISH I made this! I didn't mean MINE, I meant first I had seen. Ya, this is such a great one, great fit to the music. Suprising how a song about Ireland (U2) and Japan (Kenshin) worked.
carson700 5 years ago
lol, but ya, it was about the bloody sunday in 1973 or something like that. it does fit perfectly with this kenshin OAV
j0j0t0 5 years ago
I have seen this video for years...thanks for posting it. If you made it, you're really amazing. This is one of the AMVs that got me started making them. Just an amazing video. The editing, the music, and the anime itself just fit like peices of a puzzle.
