(1 of 3)I just got an email from one of the fans from the Mathis Magic Place Chatroom telling me Johnny's coming home to San Francisco, CA. Seems he'll be giving a talk at the Contemporary Jewish Museum about the secret musical history of black-Jewish relations.
( 2 of 3) Seems Johnny grew up listening to Jewish melodies in local synagogues. Johnny's 1958 recording of the Jewish song "Kol Nidre" which is the Aramaic prayer intoned at the beginning of Yom Kippur inspired the idea for the exhibition for the Contemporary Jewish Black Sabbath.
(3 of 3)I'm trying to get tickets since I live not too far from San Francisco. I'm very excited to think I might get to see Johnny in person again. Johnny won't sing but will reflect on his life in music and will receive special awards for his contributions to the musical life of San Francisco. Sounds like a good evening with Johnny in it.
