California's Channel Islands consist of 8 islands, 5 of which are a national park. 10% of the global blue whale population gather there during the summer. The farthest out island, San Miguel, was inhabited by the Chumash Indians until missionaries tried to "rescue" them to the mainland. The ship sank & they all drowned. One girl remained on the island, her story is recounted in the movie "Island of the Blue Dolphin". Diving there is fantastic. What are your islands like?
I live on Guernsey which is 10 miles X 7 miles, triangular in shape & 60,000 people live here. Jersey is the largest at about 12 miles X 5 miles, rectangular in shape & I think 85,000 live there. Guernsey & Jersey have developed as an offshore finance centre in the last 15yrs, but this is making it increasingly expensive for the ordinary local people like myself doing an ordinary manual job. There is 5 main islands that people live on, then several small islands, 2 of which are privately owned.
I live in the Channel Islands, but NOT these Channel Islands. Where I live is in the English Channel south west of Cherbourg, France.

I was on that same boat Aug. 07. It was my first live-a-board too. Great experience and awesome food and service. Hope to do it again sometime.
