@RichardShoaf Have this great tool and it has made it around the world with me. It was however not allowed into St. Peters Basilica or on the London Eye. It handles my D3s and large lens fine (just make sure you are secure first (using black mag mount not silver) This is my second one, apparently someone needed it more than I while in the middle east. Also good for herding donkeys on Santorini.
@MrMSum Only magnets and hard drives might cause problems. SD cards are pretty much impervious to magnets unless the fields are enormous. (E.g. MRI scans) It's just not a magnetic storage medium but an electronic one.
Besides, the magnetic fields project downwards away from the camera. The field that affects the camera won't do any more damage than just handling it from day to day.
I've got one and use withon my Sony SLR. No problems with the magnet, the field is shorted out by the adaptor.
I'm have a small disability and it makes a good walking aid.
Many museums do not allow triopds or require a special pass, but can not ban a monopod, especially one I walk with.

Magnets and electronics don't mix! I would never use this.

I have this TrekPod and agree it is just about perfect when you need some stability and can't use a tripod!
