The group the Chimes and Inner City, their music styles are very similar ,listen to the Chimes song called 123, and tell me what you think! could they be the same group with a name change with a new lead singer~
This bitch has weak vocals, and the original is 10000000X better than this garbage, this girl cant sing at all, UGHHHHHH no wonder they didnt make it out of 1990
WOW!! That reminded me of a restaurant I worked in once that no longer exists called "MUSWELL'S" Cafe Bar, Whiteladiies Road, Bristol. 1992/93. Hard work but some fond memories. But someone should sort the sound out.
This version is okay, mostly because of the drum line, but the vocals are sub-par - at best, particularly the background. Stephanie's version all the way.
this is one of Inner City's songs (cover) that's closest to my heart, if it wasn't that i love Big Fun so much! and i agree with nineballfreek, miss the bass here, it's so big it's fundamental to this track
I cant believe that it is TWENTY years ago since this was in the clubs,MY GOD!!HOW TIME FLIES!,where has twenty years gone???????,it only seems like yesterday.
This old skool tune really (i mean really) took me back to when i was an 18 year old.
There is something special about this mix that i love so much.
another video music box classic...3:30 in the afternoon after school got out... this joint makes ya wana put on a pin stripe suit wit a class of henny an a bad chick on ya arm in a club...feel me on that
@oldschooljunkie indeed. this is the def radio mix, later included on repressings of inner city's first album. frankie knuckles and david morales remixed the song into a house classic. originally performed by stephanie mills, inner city makes the song all their own.
@LatinoFlava thanks man! Yes, I knew the original by Stephanie Mills (and love it too, Stephanie Mills is amazing!), but I have to say this is one of the very few covers (maybe even the only one) that I prefer to the original....Usually I hate covers, but this one is the bomb!!
This 1989 R&B/jazz track is an outstanding remake of the Stephanie Mills original version from 1979. The groove is so smooth, along with the delightful vocals, high end music, without a doubt!!
Inner City and Ten City were THE house groups of all time...both produced consistently top quality tunes that still sound good today, almost 20 years later. This and Pennies From Heaven were Inner City's finest moments IMO, not forgetting of course Big Fun, which started it all off.
Good Life killed Big Fun summer of '89, and Byron Stingley of Ten City was actually featured in an Inner City track - Till We Meet Again! Beautiful voice. Also note that Kevin Saunderson is one of the Belleville Three (along with Juan Atkins and Derrick May). THAT is why Inner City was so successful. Glad your into house!
This is a typical top quality DEF MIX remix. You can find a similar sound on "It's hard sometimes" Frankie Knuckles and various remixes by both DJ's. My personal fave' is "Stay this way" Brand New Heavies (Morales remix). The added keyboards mirror the early 90's remixes from both DM & FK.
And Where loves lives, followed by Space cowboy and what about Unbreak my heart? Top draw from start to finish... buy the DEF MIX TRIPLE CD I say!
Stellar remix and additional production by Grammy winning house producers Frankie Knuckles and David Morales. Has the Philly Sound updated for the 90's. Exceptional !!!
you read my mind. great son i listen too and get my friends sick of cause they cannot get with the sound inner city has to this day. great song, glad i am not the only one who still appreciates it and what the group has given us all.peace.
Does anyone out there know if there are any more versions of this song out there besides this and the Stephanie Mills version? I remember hearing one other version of this song on the radio around 1988/89,a really cool version of this song but I could never find out who the artist was.would anyone know? or is inner city the only one?
WOW!!!WOW!!!WOW!! I've been trying to find this video on YouTube for 2 years. Thanks for posting this!!! This is probably one of their most definitive songs they released. It was released as a single after the 1st four singles from their debut album blew up the charts. I have the Import Release of this single with the extended version and a special Master Reese remix by Kevin Saunderson. Thank you for taking me back to my Army days in Europe...
David Morales (who mixed this) & Frankie Knuckles always know how to make classy, well crafted mixes. I think they've remixed everyone larger act in the business active during the 90's. Madonna, Michael, Janet, Mariah, PSB, Spice Girls & even Eric Clapton to name a few.
I love Stephanie Mills - awesome musician. But then, so is this! Both are FAB!!

this is one of inner citys greatest song and shows a more soulful side to their energetic house dance music, very much more a garage sound.
you can find this on their paradise remixed album.

By 'better quality' I was referring to audio quality.
I've heard the Inner City version in its true form and this is like listening to it with styro-foam cups over the ears and the bass turned right down.
The Stephanie Mills one is alright, but I guess I took a liking to this one more.
relaxitsonlyagame 2 years ago
Great tune! But does anyone have a better quality version??
relaxitsonlyagame 2 years ago
Yes. It's on Stephanie Mills' 1979 Mtume/Lucas produced LP "What Cha Gonna Do With My Lovin'". Much better quality!
