  • Dam right he wishes he was older!

  • I missed this part - - what is this scene about? Why is she looking to a child to console her?

  • For some reason I keep coming back to this clip--its maybe my favorite Betty scene. I'm not always sure January Jones is a good actress but she kills in this.

  • I love the old cars in this clip. On the DVD it said it was 90 degrees in LA where they shot this.

  • One of those great scenes that makes you want to thank the writer (Matthew Weiner?) and the actor (January Jones) for what they've created.

  • Way to go lil' Glen. He'll be hittin that in no time!

  • Betty is so emotionally needy she has no idea of what she should do. She knows she needs a therapist, but Don does not approve.

  • poor woman

  • I think Betty is absolutely the most complex character on the show.

  • Very sad--like most similar situations are.

Sort of reminds me of the Mary Kay Letourneau (correct spelling?) case.

  • This scene would be absurd and tacky in any other program besides this one. Fantastic.

  • This scene would be completely absurd and tacky in any other show but this. Fantastic.

  • This episode is phenomenal.

  • If I was Glen I would totally take advantaga of the situation.

  • hahaha you know Glen was really thinking that!!!

  • I second that!

  • this scene is so sad, she is completely alone and the only person she can say that to is a little boy.

  • I love this scene and wasn't expecting it when I first saw it. You don't realize the extent of Betty's loneliness and disconnect until she breaks down to a little boy because he's the only person who shows any interest in her as a person and the only one who won't judge her for her flaws. I do think her interaction with Glenn is a bit inappropriate, but not for any sexual reasons - she's placing an emotional burden on someone who can't help her, who's too young to know what she's going through.

  • I think he has more of an idea what she's going through than anyone else, including that ass of a psychiatrist and her idiot husband, but he can't help her.

  • What could be sadder than desperate Betty Draper in this scene? She's every betrayed, loving, lost wife trying not to believe but having to face the truth about the fascinating but cowardly and deceptive man she loved and married. Ms. Jones deserved an Emmy certainly as did young Mr. W for this one.

  • Betty's problems are more than just her cheating swine of a husband. Imagine being trapped in that life. She gets no respect or appreciation. It's obviously not a very rewarding, fulfilling existence.

  • to see her struggle against the 60s is remarkable

i enjoy don but i hurt for betty

  • I think that's how Glen feels, minus the cheating husband part. He feels trapped in this life.

  • I really like this young actor. He has an "honesty" about him that is very likeable. He is the only one that isn't yet bogged down with the gender roles of the 60s so he can view Betty as a human being instead of a housewife. What a sad scene and a great performance by both actors.

  • January Jones was robbed of an Emmy nom.

  • Wow. I'd just assumed she was nominated. She is fantastic.

  • Is her in love for the kid???? I don't know this TV series... Well, when a adult likes a male child, nobady thinks of that like if was a a adult male for a female child. Both are wrong in case of sex.

  • no she's not in love with the child. she just literally has no one to talk to.

  • Not just that. She's so lost and so unsure of herself she can almost relate to him. However, I never got the point behind the scene with her in the bathroom. I know it wasn't anything too deep.

  • i think she's lonely & hurting and he listens to her unlike her shit of a husband.

  • i feel for betty......don is an ass to her

  • Wow, what a scene. The acting is phenomenal. Heartbreaking.

  • "Glenn" is Matthew Weiner's, (show creator) son,I believe.

  • really, how neat. good young actor. this scene is so heartbreaking by the way. i feel really sorry for her though. i also feel like glenn was violated somehow-the fact that she bares her soul to a kid its kind of pedophelic...dont you think?

  • no i don't. Quite the opposite-- it shows loneliness and highlights the fact that at that time, 1960s, men after a certain age are required to stop looking at women as people. This is an interaction without sexual overtones it is one of the few ones in the series without sexual overtones, and it shows that the time is so backwards, that a NONsexual interaction is seen as perverse.

  • wow... your so clever... and im not even being ironic i just read that comment, thought "wow" and smiled :)

  • sophiejo, I think your underestimating the emotional knowledge of a child. It's human nature to feel sorrow, sadness and compassion, no matter what age you are.

I think it's wierd that you feel that way, perhaps you should ask yourself why. No offense.

  • Aw Glenn is so cute but creepy at the same time.I feel bad that Betty had to confide in a kid.The scene was really nice though

  • I did think he was creepy when he just walked in on her in the bathroom and then asked for a piece of her hair.

They do share a common lonely feeling though.

  • Glenn is no more creepy than Betty. They're two people of very different ages who share the common but un-understood bond of living lives that starve them of any chance of love from the people they have every reasonable right to expect it from.

It is a scene that reveals a truth about how we cope with our individual unhappiness and how it persisits through time.

As Don is saying in the Kodak pitch "the pain from an old wound".

  • This scene is heartbreaking. I remember the first time I saw it I got all choked up.

  • So did I. I still get close to tears whenever I see her break down like that. I wish she could talk to Don. =( I love this woman.

Anyone know where I can find the scene of Betty shooting the pigeons? Single best scene in all of cinematic history.

  • I haven't seen it elsewhere, so I will try to post a clip of that scene for you.

  • What is this supposed to say about Betty? Is it just depression? I wasn't sure exactly what mental illness they were giving her, considering they said she also had the emotional maturity of a child. I also don't think Glen is creepy at all, like zing said it's basically because he doesn't feel loved either. That wasn't really to you ms, but if you know about Betty that would be cool. Thanks for posting all of your videos! :)

  • What a contrast between the triumph of Don's Kodak pitch and his wife's desperate search for some kind of connectedness with her world.

    Poignant and painful.

  • That kid has a few issues. But then, hey so does she, so match made in heaven.

  • oh gosh... I have a lot of sympathy for Betty on this show. i like how there's an interesting reversal of roles in this odd relationship - an adult seeking comfort from a child. I think in this situation it's less about creepiness and more about trying to reach out to anyone who cares and listens, and obviously she's in a lot of distress.

  • that kid is so weird and seriously creepy...i can't wait to see where they take his character. he makes me sad. i wonder what happened to make him that way. sometimes i think they'll make him a serial killer and sometimes i think he'll be the one who saves Betty from her misery...I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!
