  • I personally say second to magic.. but only because how magic and bird revoulotioned exciting basketball and of course championships:)

  • lol to all these people who think Stockton is the greatest pg of all time. It's not even close. He's not even better than Jason Kidd...

  • @yargdpirate

John Stockton was much better then Jason Kidd. Kidd is barely shooting 40% for his career. That's terrible. Stockton shot almost 52% for his career. That's a HUGE difference.

  • @yargdpirate he is alot better then jason kidd. even with jason kidds ring.

  • Stockton to Malone...classic.

  • are you from seattle or salt lake?

  • The best PG is a toss up between him and Magic.

  • lol @ 1:23

  • Five stars! Because the author has omitted to bring in fucking music.

  • stockton and malone

    smh

    what a team

  • never again ...

  • what a great player

  • Comment removed

  • Judging from all this finishing at the hoop, it would've been hilarious if he could've dunked. This 5'11 white guy drivin and then throwin down with authority on 7 foot centers would've been priceless!

  • who's that Jazz center in 1:22? the admiral looks small next to this guy he's huge lol

  • 7`4 3/4 ft (some say 7`5) and 280-90 lbs Mark Eaton.

Top Interior Defender of the 80s

Highest Block % in NBA History

Highest BPG Avg in NBA History

  • Michael now a years gone by, see you're still in memory, this is people if there have a wonderful talent, they're to fast of life. god just give them a short life. he loved them much better than us.

  • Stockton Eats magic and poops stardust... literally, there is no other way to explain him... best PG in NBA history

  • not every player wins a championship you dumbass. he holds the records for most assists AND most steals. what the hell do you hold records for? most failures in high school?

  • haha, you are either mormon or palouse.. The ring is the thing. why you so mad, do you love him? I'm sure he would trade all the records for the ring, like GP has. GP owned Stockton. I have seen it many times. I play ball at Ranier Beach and get mine, about 15ppg. Thats where Nate and Jamal is from. I would play you for money any day.

  • i just cant stand ignorant dumbass' criticizing one of the best player to ever play the game. most likely because he's white as well.

  • i'm white too. and i will take you to my "black" gym and bust you up for a c-note.

  • GP was a great player , but Stockton had more basketball in his left hand than GP had in his entire body .

He was the best PG ever , by far .

  • stockton was known for a weak left hand. he never put the ball in his left for more than two dribbles. over half his assists came running the same play, a easy pass into the post

everytime i saw gp and stockton play, GP would bust him up. I think Magic or Oscar Robertson was better by far. Jason Kidd plays much better D. And what about Steve Nash. Or Mark Jackson hes taken a team to the finals. Oh and GP has his ring (hit two game winners).. Walt Frazier is better too.

  • I don't talk about rings , I'm talking about players . So many crappy players has rings , it doesn't mean nothing . Basketball is a collective game .

In my opinion (and numbers agree by far) , Stockton was the best PG ever played the game . Simple and boring , but extremely competent in his job . The same plays , and the same efficience .

You can talk about GP , Isiah Thomas , and Oscar Robertson . But Mark Jackson , Jason Kidd ... they were good players , but not at this level .

  • Yes . Easy passes direct into the post . Thousands and thousands over two decades . That's the game !

    This is basketball .

  • Boring basketball that doesn't win rings. how are you going to have the #2 scorer and the #1 assist man and not win shit. Stockton fans are all the same. They don' t know hoops. They don't know shit. Oh and now you are saying I can mention GP in the same breath. Stockton is just another good player who didn't do shit when he had a chance to win it all. Unlike my boy GP , who hit two game winners.

  • No . 'Boring' , techinical and efficient basketball who made a LEGEND . Despite rings , despite media , despite detractors like you ... everyore who lived that times will never forget the technical , classy and TRUE basketball played by Stockton . He is a legend , and deserves this .

Peace , and SHORT SHORTS !

  • only a gay guy likes short shorts

  • That's nonsens. Stockton was a great playmaker but without a spectuluar play. His statistics were specutuar. The most assists in career and the most assist in single season. He holds the record for career steals and that statistic is independent of Karl Malone.

When I was young (in the mid 90s) my favourite player was Kevin Johnson, because he had nice statistic and his play was spectualar. Today Stockton has become my favourite player.

  • i got no problem with you guys liking stockton , but you guys are irrational. like this guy above me, FiasaPower, saying stockton deserves this. Deserves what? a tribute video? ok. But when I was young (in the mid 90's) and had season tickets, gary would rip this guy a new asshole. And if Kemp hadn't started fucking up, the sonics dominating the Jazz would have continued. Our 1-2 punch was much much better. I know Gary , Frazier, Oscar, Magic, Isiah, they all better and are champions.

  • @paulc43 i recommend you to search on youtube for the following title - Gary Payton's Toughest Match-Up - and i you'll be surprised what GP has to say.

    John Stockton's 15806 AST > GP's 8966 AST

    John Stockton's 515 FG% > GP's 466 FG%

    John Stockton's 3256 STL > GP's 2445 STL

    John Stockton's 384 3P% > GP's 317 3P%

  • maybe tough match up, but gary owned him. Stockton aint shit and never won shit. Utah only got to the finals after kemp started trippin.

  • @paulc43 - You're impression is based mostly on that confrontation from the '96 WC Finals. In case you don't know Stockton came into that series with his right arm injured. If you watch a bit of tape of that series you will see Stockton ailing. Gary Payton was not shutting him down in fact he was even backing off him provoking him to shoot bricks, his FG% was awful and that's because Stockton's injury was so bad in that series that he tried to handle the ball merely with his left hand.

  • @paulc43 Stockton was injured, badly, in the WCF of 96.

And Kemp? Malone owned him him in that series. Kemp wouldn't even guard Malone, while Karl played D on Kemp and put up 27, 11 and 5 per game.

  • @sunshinebutmorerain

gary was never injured. tough as nails. kemp guarded malone all the time, and when kemp was the best player when we went to the finals. you make gary play for sloan and run the same plays he gets lots of assists too. but gary didn't need to dominate the ball.

  • @paulc43 Just keep ignoring reality -- Stockton most certainly was badly injured, and Kemp would never guard Malone, whereas Malone would score thirty and play tough D on the opposing team's best post player.

No reason to bother with a fanboy that is, likewise and selfsame, a blatant liar. That would be you.

  • @sunshinebutmorerain

fanboy = 10 year season ticket holder. after gary's third year stockton didn't have shit for him and utah only got past us when they broke our team up

  • @paulc43 Oh, and being tough as nails is playing THROUGH big injuries -- like having a useless right arm, in Stockton's case -- not playing simply because you're uninjured.

    What a tool.

  • @sunshinebutmorerain

Gail Goodrich, who played with hall of fame guard Jerry West, said "Gary Payton is probably as complete a guard as there ever was."

  • @sunshinebutmorerain

oh yes what year was it that utah beat seattle in the conference finals? i can't remember. refresh my memory.

  • @sunshinebutmorerain

oh thats right they never did. so with a trip to the finals on the line the greatest power foward AND the greatest point guard couldn't do it against lowly Payton and Kemp. Things that make you say hmmmmmm

  • @paulc43 Are you seriously trying to say that Kemp and Payton were better than Stockton and Malone? You're nuts dude. The Bulls double teamed Stockton with Michael Jordan almost every time he was dribbling the ball down the court, I didn't see them being forced have to do that to Payton. Even Jordan said that Stockton is the toughest S.O.B he had to face in the finals. LOL

  • @zr1drifter

Except payton held jordan to his lowest finals average by himself (27.3) vs (32.3 & 33.5) and Utah had to put a small forward on jordan and he still busted them up while having the flu. Kemp & Payton are 2-1 vs Stockton & Malone with Utah one series victory happening in Payton's second year and Kemp's third year versus the well seasoned combination of Stockton & Malone. Utah won the first series and that's it. LOL

  • @paulc43

And why wouldn't the Bulls double team Stockton since he had the rock 99% percent of the time. You always double team the ball. His numbers only good because he played in the most point guard dominated offense ever. Every point guard has had better assist totals under Sloan than where they played before or played after. Sports Illustrated also said Gary's 2003-2004 season was the best one by a point guard 35 or over. maybe you do to much "drifting" and not enough "balling".

  • No doubt about it -- John Stockton is the best point guard ever.

  • Isiah Thomas

  • Judging by the comments reaction in the comments....Stockton is still very much underrated. Seriously folks, he is the NBA ALL TIME LEADER OF BOTH ASSIST AND STEAL Category. HE IS THE BEST PG OF ALL TIME.

  • well, they think dunks is the most important category. Stockton, seriously best PG of all time, may be even best player.

  • @changalator I agree. But it's still debatable between him and Magic Johnson. I think you cold also thrown in Oscar Robertson in there.

  • @changalator

Correct. In my opinion too many people are too impressed by the more spectular game of a Gary Payton or Isiah Thomas. They are good playmakers but not better than John Stockton.

    My top 5:

    1. Magic Johnson

    2./3 Oscar Roberston, John Stockton

    4. Isiah Thomas

    5./6. Jason Kidd/Steve Nash

    Payton is overrated.

  • @dralger

IMO, Oscar was the first Combo guard

  • @changalator

Wrong absolutely wrong. I would take Magic Johnson, Oscar Robertson and Jerry West before John Stockton.

  • he coulda played another 3 years imo.

  • the one the have similar play like john stockton is steve nash

  • top 5 PG's not necessarily in this order

    Magic

    Stockton

    Pistol Pete

    Bob Cousy

    Isaiah thomas

    CP3 ND D-Will r the future

  • How can you not love john stockton? he's arguably the best point guard in NBA history

  • amazing!! i'm a die hard fan and some says he's not spectacular lol

  • Just like the best strikers in soccer, Stockton has a great change of pace from calm to very quick.

  • does he 3 points

  • does he 3 points

  • ya hes hella good at them

  • he's like the conbination of Tony Parker and Steve Nash

  • I'm Italian, so my English could be uncorrect, but is "John Stockton is more THEN just pick and rolls" correct?

Shouldn't it be "John Stockton is more THAN just pick and rolls"?

    Just being curious.

  • who cares

  • Haha yeah you're right, nice catch.

  • yeah thats right

  • The second one is correct

  • why no highlight of him going against Isiah. Oh wait, Isiah lit him up for 30 points and made him look bad.

  • He carried the ball a lot.

  • Back then they werent as strict about it, it seems

  • hes just a better version of Steve nash

  • Yes, a better version of Nash on offense. But also he was one of the best defensive players; unlike Nash, who is a awful liability on defense.

  • at 1:25 look at the guy behind the girl lol

  • he's hilarious ^^

  • Great player, but not great highlights... Stockton was definately an all-around PG, but his highlights will put you to sleep unless you're a huge jazz fan.

  • I'm a fan of Stockton... too bad MJ took from him the NBA finals twice.

  • wow! what a boring highlight video.

  • Its very hard to see theese days a fast and so much good at passes player as John Stockton.Steve Nash is something like him now but Stockton is one of a kind.

  • whoa, almost blew my speakers! :S

  • Man, He's so fast he's blurry... LOL.

  • i thought my headphone is not working..lol

  • what the hell is wrong with the sound?

  • i loved Stock. He doesn't look very intimidating but he's actually among the most physical players in the history of the game. Great court awareness and always makes the correct play. Known for his assists but most forget that he'll shut you down and get under your skin on the defensive end. He doesn't have the ghetto image like Iverson, but pound for pound he's right up there with him in terms of toughness.

  • he's got an ill crossover

  • Comment removed

  • why did you retaliate that to me?

i said he has a good crossover.

  • sick footwork

  • when you talk about basic you talk about john stockton. so simple yet so great.

  • I nver knew he was that fast...amazing!

  • stockton and malone were an awesome duo

  • 1:25 Lol on the left jaja

  • ah man the nets and those hideous neon blue unis.

  • Isaiah Thomas beat him down everytime they played

  • isaiah was only beter on the iso.

stockton could see the court better, and somehwat shoot the ball better.

but what makes stockton a better player is that he makes his team better too.

id say stockton over isaiah most of the times

  • isaiah better stats except for assist and 2 champs. They went through the Celts to get theirs and at that time that was real hard to de. Jazz never got pass the Lakers when Magic was playing. People praise him more because he was a NBA good guy. Thomas was a bad ass.

  • nice

  • i never knew stockton could take it to the rim and finish so easily. i always see him taking jumpers...then again that was when he was at the end of his road. awesome.

  • how many all-time nba records do you need to hold to get some respect?

  • Stock was the truth!!

  • 0:15 monster block !!! :D

  • Who better pistol pete or John Stockton

  • pistol

  • Man the game really steped up since this era. Look at all the skinny guys and the easy baskets....no comparison to the game today.

  • Ya it's surprising that the the all time assists leader and steals leader has highlights right? Fucking dumbass

  • he's 6'1'' - not a dwarf.

  • The funny thing is here you are with your hatin, on a computer like some loser working at a retail job while he's not only the best pg that ever played the game, but also makes about 10 billion dollars more than you.

  • It's so easy to hate, but if you have any sort of knowledge or appreciation of the game then you can't do anything but respect John Stockton's game. He's fun to watch because he makes everything look so easy. He makes every single player on your team better, a sign of pure skill.

  • The truth is I respect him a lot and I know he's not a dwarf. ;) You have to admit that his moves aren't as spectacular to watch as those of other players from that time (Rarely saw him on any of the NBA's Highlight reels - so much for my first comment), but anyway... Calling me a fucking dumbass in the first place has nothing to do with respect either. And yes, he makes more money than I do, I am aware of that. I got just Love for you out there and for Stockalone and Horny and all the rest.

  • Tu eres tonto amigo.

  • god, the sound on these young legend highlights is all fucked up for me. levels aren't consistent at all.

  • 1:24

"Honey a white guy scored yaaaaaaaay!"

    Kidding lol

  • to good to be true

  • that dude at 1:24 was weeeeeeeeird!

  • his moves were aheaD OF ITS TIME. HE WAS SOO GOOD

  • goat

  • John Stockton, don't know what to say. Looks solid to me. No razzle dazzle, just straight to the point.

  • lol dude at 1:24

  • dis lil nigga god lol

  • best at all the basics of basketball. layup, dribble shooting and passing.

  • is there something wrong with the audio?

  • John Stockton-the whitest NBA player ever.

    Not a bad thing-just saying.

  • ROFL

  • best pure point guard

  • The basic crossover before it got fancy. His first step is a beast.

  • 1:25 weird man in the back

    LOL

  • little man doing big things

  • 13th comment!

  • who needs Fancy dribbling when u can just do a simple cross over with those shorts on haha and still get a bucket

  • loooooooooollllllllll

  • 11th lol

  • 10th =( lol

  • cool

  • wow, his up and under move is unstoppable. a lost art.

  • nicee..
