  • couldnt get better quality?

  • Do American Indians celebrate Thanksgiving?

  • @crapatev oy... good very good question

  • @GRANBESTIA They celebrate it as much as Jews celebrate Hitler's birthday ... I'd guess.

  • RON PAUL 2012

  • @truckstopcowboy Indeed!

  • Anyone who verbally bashes our president is no better than the terrorist who attack our country. Anyone who doesn't like Obama can feel free to leave the country and go to Iraq. At least Obama's got the brains to bring them home.

  • That's right Mr. President, & that blood still runs through our veins, We will not now lay down our freedom, and we will stand our ground no matter the cost!

  • =_=;;; Why do people always make John Rolfe look cuter than what he actually was? Dude, the man was FAT and BALD. BALD except for his beard. So there, good bye Disney, hello harsh reality! TT^TT

  • @KaoGreenStar that was probably later... at 20something I doubt we has bald and fat...

  • @AzulaPrincess007 there are alot of things this country did in the beginning that im not proud of, but before you open your mouth and judge me for being proud of being American, know that my ancestors, the TUSCARORA INDIANS of North Carolina and AFRICAN SLAVES built this country. White people brought a European style of government and alot of pain and heartache to my tribe and my ancestors who were slaves, but the past is the past. Get over it and yourself and shut the fuck up

  • wait Powhatan James town John Ralph Pocahontas i thought that movie wasnt real. and this is y history is my fav subject in skool

  • Thumbs up if you thought of "Lord of the rings" in 05:09.

  • whats with putting obama at the beginnig of this film. kind of shames the whole thing but ill watch it

  • Britain the biggest empire the world has ever seen

  • @225glen actually, that would be the Ancient Roman empire

  • @225glen Incorrect. The Holy Roman Empire is easily the biggest empire the world has ever seen.

  • @WillHurricane

    The Mongols...

  • Thumbs up if you fast forwarded thru Obama and at the same time wished you could have fast forwarded his 4 years in office too

  • I'm sure many of our troops who are fighting to protect us would disagree. I'm just happy that gas prices are under $4 a gallon and our troops are coming home. It's nice to see 2 of my friends again that Bush sent to Iraq.

  • Stfu Obama

  • 5:13 ah yes America is about to be born at Jamestown. the Brits thought there was gold here 1. they were digging in the wrong spot 2. they are on ground claimed by the Powhatan Empire 3. and they brought about their own doom. if they want to found a state they need to get rid of their gold fever and plant roots. 7:00 and that's what John Rolfe did he planted roots and founded the Jamestown Plantation the oldest in the country.100 years later this land will become Virginia the oldest state.

  • Like American war of Independence, even in middle east these kind of struggle is going on and I think the'll win b'cuz they will never give up and got enough determination that they will and successfully topple dictators.

  • Hey Obama! Please give some value for the sacrifice of your forefathers. Support the middle eastern protesters instead of dictators and don't become puppet of them b'cuz it is the biggest embarrassment for any country whose govt is a puppet of another govt. especially criminal govt. and if you don't,you are spoiling the name, reputation and fame that your forefathers tried hard to make it.

  • @clydedsouza46

the Revolution of America was a liberal revolution in the traditional sense. The Egyptian situation is a attempt to take over with a theocratic leaders. there is only enough democracy so people dont revolt even more

  • AMERICA IS ALPHA RACE

  • i like the other narrator but this is not too bad

  • im learning and watching this in history class in college

  • very interesting documentary. I am Canadian and interested in US history.

  • I'm from Brazil and by watching this I'm actually studying for a test tomorrow!

  • So proud to be American!!!!

  • @jnels2007 your proud for killing peaceful people for land ??? that is so selfish :) and so wrong and bitchy .

oh yeah and guess what im not arab or some shit like that . :*

  • @AzulaPrincess007 you are a bigot that you judged the many with the acts of the few and for being selfish is very far from the truth. if it was any other country they would do much worse than we did. give you a hint there won't be any tribes left because the best interest in america is "Relative" peace shown in history. but there is much more brutal from any country that is at least more inhumane than Americas most brutal event.

  • i am proud that I am an American!!!! <3

  • do u think this series was made to create some kind of nationalist vibe

  • 6 people are not loyal to america

  • Contrabanding, interracial dating, immigrant labor in the new world, so why is it a "problem" today?

  • I'm sorry, but this is blatant propaganda. It's endorsed by the government, and funded by banking interests. It marginalizes what we did to the natives. They say that the Jamestown settlers and the Powhatan natives were "soon enemies", but they ignore what caused it (hint: English agression). The documentary "500 nations" has a great (and much better researched) story of the Jamestown colony, and it's only a youtube search away...

  • @eringobragh16 It's history ass hole!!!! XDDDDDDDDDD

  • @eringobragh16 americans aint trying to hear that shit lol. they just wanna hear how great there founding fathers were, not how they massacred an indeginous native to create america.

  • @MrHigherplane Oh give up that was 200 years ago you weren't even there so stop bitching every revolution is bloody as fuck.

  • we just watched this for history class today and now igotta watch it for homework. i honestly think its REALLY interesting and im 13/

  • YOU HEAR THAT??????????? AFRICANS IN THE COLONIES WERE NOT SLAVES, SO SHOVE IT WHEN YOU SAY THEY'VE ALWAYS BEEN SLAVES

  • @MrFloppy19 Little known fact: the first slave owner in America was a black man.

  • @Halo4Lyf well, they conveniently left that out of the history books, GEE, I WONDER WHY???

  • I have learned ao much from it

  • I love this show

  • No one is saying that America did not have inequality or slavery or oppression or evil, corrupt men who did everything for money. But i think we all need to acknowledge that Americans did manage to change for the better. They did it then and they might do it again. That's the point.

  • i had to watch this for college... awesome channel

  • America has paid Billions of dollars to the Jews for their troubles in the holocaust..Something that we didn't have shit to do with...Meanwhile Natives Americans and African Americans got sh*t for their troubles, Slavery and kicked out their land....BULLSH*T !!!

  • I read somewhere that all Jamestown settlers were required to grow cannabis so which is true. Cannabis or tobacco?

  • @sc3ot1ti1e The Crown ordered them to grow industrial hemp but they grew tobacco instead.

  • @sc3ot1ti1e tobacco john rolfe brought it learned it in school

  • Fucking propaganda.

  • The so called '' White man'' has Been about MONEY! from the start, The New World, was a BIG pussy waiting to get FUCK. Chico!

  • That experiment is now coming to an end.

  • Naah, trust me-I did a headcount in high school. The second smart guy is only acting dumb so he can be liked. He comes around right around the time he realizes he has to take politics and history seriously or get screwed, say, an election. The dumb ones are the ones who are willfully ignorant even when the proverbial building is on fire.

  • @americanruskie I believe they are very much alive. However, I would be willing to bet that if any of those men were reincarnated today, they'd have the good sense to stay away from the modern Beltway!! (Something tells me that Jefferson would be desparately trying to hold down Adams-Adams would be throwing a fit if he saw the way the Congress behaves today!!

  • Sometimes i think that the People of James Town brought food not bombs and explosives... But anyway BEST DOCUMENTRY EVA!....

  • America is falling apart. We must rebuild America!

  • Canada needs one of these series

  • this is alsome

  • lol OBAMA HIMSELF introed this documentary. Bet History Channel was happy

  • @zone1282 What the story of how the banks own America?

  • This Documentary Keeps Me Hoping that America Still Can Find it's Original Self

  • when my class watched the first episode they all booed at the first minute....

  • i wish america would be as great as it once was...

  • this is the only good thing ive seen on thoes history channels.

  • Tobacco sucks.

  • @JUSTforwhitlisting Its as addicting as all get out. :(

  • America is still the same, there is just less in it.....

  • 0.46 Americans should not forget that Europeans ( the Netherlands provided funds, the weapons and its Navy. The Netherlands were the first to recognize US sovereignty. France, its navy ) made the US possible.

  • @DutchPetriot Its total bullshit that american peasants won the revolutionary war, france and the dutch won the war and gave the prize to the Americans. That's the harsh truth.

But we still love them =)

  • @FreddoX1 You are really saying that. Yes France supported us. But really they weren't the entire reason we won the war. They were only there for a part of it. Americans were the ones who had suffered and persevered to gain this. France had only blockaded Cornwallis from escaping ending the war for us sooner but we still would have won. Britain could not hold onto an entire populace that seeks independence. P.S. some supplies from the French such as guns often wouldn't work lol.

  • @FreddoX1 Here is another harsh truth: Even if America had lost the war, others would have eventually rose up again to defy the British Empire. It is unlikely the Americans would have won without foreign aid, true, but it is also unlikely that hanging their heroes on the gallows would have stopped them from trying again and again. There is only one other former British colony that fits the same mold, and it achieved its freedom in the 1940's after fighting for years.

    Its name is India.

  • @shadowkitty56 lol India is nothing like America they didn't fight like you guys and it took a lot longer then you guys and Britain said yes to them like they did Canada. All because India got independence and America got independence does not mean they are alike.

  • @kosser99 The point is, fool, that the DID fight back. Rebellions in India go back to the 1790s. No, they did not fight the same way (it is a whole other culture) but again and again they had rebellions, again and again they fought back, and as a result, they eventually won their freedom. Hunger strikes sometimes are just as effective as bullets, and waiting until your enemy is too broke to take arms against you is also excellent strategy.

  • @DutchPetriot That was after they knew that the continental army could defeat the british in battle. Why support a loser?

  • Im watching this on July 4 2011. No BS.

  • this is the worst thing they have changed in American history, all this is, is Propaganda they made it sound like the British only won 1 battle and that the french helped but didn't help too much. i am sad to see that the history channel has white washed American Revolution.

  • @kosser99 I agree. The Americans could not ein with out the French and Dutch and Spanish. The British won pretty much all the battles untill the french and Americans clashed to gether.

  • @kosser99 They don't give a shit.

  • @kosser99 Unfortunately, dearie, it is not the side that wins the most battles that always wins the war. It is the side that uses its troops the most strategically or wins the battles that matter. Case in point: Hundred Years War.

  • @shadowkitty56 lol that has nothing to do with what i said. i said this was Propaganda because of it only talks about 1 battle that the British won and that america won it mostly by itself witch in real history it says they didn't do, they should've said something about the french army, spain, and the dutch but they didn't and thats i big part of the war that they skipped.

  • @kosser99 You are correct that Britain won the majority of battles-Washington, for example, won about half the ones he waged, plus a draw at Monmouth (4-9). Otherwise, the dutch contributed money, not arms, Spain's major contributions were out west of the proscribed boundary line (Galvez) and France contributed men, but some of its provisions weren't firing correctly and only Lafayette bothered to learn English. (Most just barked at the soldiers in French and magically expected obedience.)

  • @kosser99 The greatest foreigners who contributed to the cause were NEITHER French nor Spanish nor even Dutch. Their names were Von Steuben and Casimir Pulaski. The first taught infantry tactics and the latter taught cavalry (fortunately at the time most horses in the 13 colonies were hybrids between British stock like the Thoroughbred and the Spanish horse via Indian ponies: in other words, a speedy little sprinter with a much less flighty temperament than Euro stock.)

  • @kosser99 The French were not interested in helping the rebels out of the goodness of their hearts. They wanted to see if they could reclaim territory lost 25 years earlier or even eke out some access to the temperate 13 colonies. The rules of real estate applied even then: location, location, location. When France had lost the previous war, it lost access to the sea in the colonies and many millions of $ in access to timber.

  • The sea access provided access to fisheries & also to trade, albeit not as good as the British (less ice in winter in 13 colonies.) This was all lost earlier and contact with the French Crown was cut off for most francophones in Canada (look what happened to the Acadians.) Comte de Vergennes saw the opportunity and took it...but unfortunately the British sucessfully defended Jamaica & all France got out of the deal was Senegal, Tobago, and lessened territory in India.

  • @shadowkitty56 you are missing the point here, i know my history like you do but this is all Propaganda it does not say anything about Britain winning most of the time or the dutch helped or Spain and if you only watched this for American history you would think America got no help at all and that's the point i'm saying and you cant say that after watching this trash that you know anything about the war, all it is is Propaganda.

  • @kosser99 This program is aimed at an American audience and I might add that most of us do have at least some rudimentary knowledge (ugggh, yes, me can READ!!) of the events between 1760-1790. This is just the beginning; there are another 200 years to go. Getting into every little minute detail here means one must do it to the other chapters...and there is no way you can fit that onto regularly scheduled programming. It's just a fluff piece-lighten up.

  • @shadowkitty56 .... its the history channel if they cant say what really happened then they should change there name and not make people think that what really happened, and yes i am mad not at you but at history channel after all its history (those who forget history are doomed to repeat it).

  • @kosser99 I wouldn't be so panicked if I were you. The Novanglus essays are still around, so are most of the original sources, so are hundreds of books in the local library and also for sale on Kindle. PBS does plenty of work that is much more detailed, and last I looked, David McCullough was alive and kicking. There will always be a bunch of nincompoops who ignore history, but thankfully God has seen to it that there are at least 2 smart ones for every 3 dumb ones.

  • @shadowkitty56 i know but more people watch history channel and because of its name people think its really is part of history and i didn't care till i read a comment here saying something like "i never knew this and this is the best this on the war" or something like that, and thats what pissed me off, that people took it as real history and thats why i said this was Propaganda. i think your wrong about the smart thing lol its like 1 smart for every 3 dumb ones

  • July 4th-Declare independence from the UN

  • and now America is going to hell. well its falling at-least

  • With the 4th of July coming up, I felt the urge to watch this.

  • America right now is just laid back... if you think about it, all we're relying on is Technology, we used to be competitive, ingenuitive, clever, strong, and most of all, smart. America needs to get their ass up and do something about it, start providing better education, stop childhood obesity, come on, really. This is SAD!

  • fuk u America

  • @wreckin11 you will be sayin the same thing to another superpower country soon

  • @wreckin11 You make Canadians look bad.

  • We watched this in school today and I loved it! Yet at some parts I felt sad because of hearing of all the lives lost. But the stratigies used in the war were amazing!

  • :D

This is one of the documentaries that is watchable, even if you hate US history.

  • @Jonathannovak1 well how accurate were portraits back then and this is england mabey they want a man or horse jk English noffence.

  • Funny how they made Pocahontas look so attractive here.

If you actually see the portrait that they mentioned in real life, she looks like 50% horse, 50% man and 0% woman.

  • if my history class was told like this i'd pay better attention

  • @dontbeanidiot101 They actually distributed this docu to high schools around the country

  • Ayo straight up son, FUCK BANK OF AMERICA!!!

  • @shnicka55 I know right? If I was living in that time I would started a riot! THAT'S MY MONEY!

  • Pocahantes is Hot! I'd come to America if I knew the women looked like that. I already live in america though.

  • Gerald Ford? I'm dtf.

  • George Washington was S.A.F.

  • traitors

  • I love this series. Americas history is truly amazing and inspirational.

  • Oh God they put Obama up on this! wtf?

  • @aggies436 first black president of the US of A of course its just fitting.

  • @aggies436 He's our first black president and has risen to success....a great example of a successful American story. Get over it...

  • i love this documentary but seriously how useless was that first lot of people before john rolfe? couldn't even try to catch fish or some other furry creature. come oooonnn the powhatan must have had a right laugh.

  • nice video

  • @PaulTM2991 Well learn to live with it his our president now!_!

  • id rather watch this MODERN documentary then the stupid 80s discovery videos they make us watch sometimes.

  • @blink182rockon1 I know! So many of those are so corny! Because of the ancientness of them, it took me 5 years to find out the Berlin wall was torn down!

  • The introduction is so cool <3

  • UNITED STATES IS STILL STRONG! BAD ECONOMY? JOBLESSNESS? TERRORIST ATTACK? WE BEEN THROUGH THIS SHIT BEFORE! ITS NOTHING NEW!

  • @ramsantosjr (appluads the wonderful speech)

  • if you look at obama's eyes he's reading a teleprompter.

  • the american "revolution" was just a military coup by terrorists. the sons of liberty: terrorists.

  • @billybob7ful I don't think you understand the meaning of the word terrorist. Rebels, insurgents, or guerillas are more accurate description. There is a difference between an act of defiance and an act of terrorism.

  • @Sternoproductions try reading some history, instead of listening to propaganda. thug gangs, rape, murder, burnings, criminal damage, lynch mobs, is terrorism. anyone who was either neutral or a loyalist, had their lives destroyed

  • @Sternoproductions not always mate

  • thats mad the first africans in the states were not slaves WTF. well ye learn something new everyday.

  • Sometimes I wish America was just as cool as it once was.

  • @DairFreakShow Thats why we need another revolution.

  • @GunRyd3r True that!

  • @DairFreakShow Then do something to write the next chapter in our history...

  • @DairFreakShow That's thing... Ever since the hippie movement the US went down.

  • @DairFreakShow

Yes, as far as we have strayed from the virtues and attitudes of the first Americans that made our nation great. I still think we can get back there.

  • @DairFreakShow yeah i wish america was as cool as it once was too, those niggas picked that cotton real nice, yes suh

  • @DairFreakShow It still is if we can all unite.

  • @DairFreakShow Still is. In fact, even better than it has ever been. You just fail to appreciate that fact. Or perhaps have been hit hard by the recession or depression. In the case, don't lose sight of what it is you want in life. Hang in there. And remember it could be so much worse. Plan it out, reschool and get out there and fight. Our ancestors never had it even remotely as good as we have it.
