  • Lol we run this hill for PT. It sucks ass but it's a great workout, 42 mins is my best time so far.

  • hahahahhahaha i bet the dad is like wtf.......

  • i do this shit once a week. amazing hike

  • It's such a fun hike, but damn it is a hike! lol. I did it mid 2010, on my little sisters wedding day. I'm 6'1" and about 235lbs... I can't imagine too many people bigger than me getting to the top without having a near heart attack.

  • Loved the video! I did the Incline this summer (2010) Made it up to the top, sat on that big rock for about twenty minutes, saw some nasty weather coming in and ran four miles down the Barr trail. It was a tough climb for sure but I plan on going back and doing it again!

@Zipo214...Lol! Don't you just hate those athletes??

  • my first time, me and my friends stopped in the shade about halfway up and took a nap.

  • I just did the Incline today. it was brutal but I'm happy I did it. I'm happy I read up on it too and found out that's false summit. I would've been so pissed.

  • this is why the colorado is the fittest state in the US, i just did the incline, and i got so pissed about the secret lawl

  • i did the incline in fifty min. then five minutes after getting to the summit a young girl . comes running up the summit and sprouts "17 minutes"

  • There's only 2,744 steps to the top.........I go up it three times a week.

  • In the 80's, my friend Shaun and I and his Dad took the train to the top, then hiked up Pikes Peak. We spent the night at A-Frame. I think Papa did a good job...! You tell him I said that.

  • @vertrees2 Papa did a real good job! Looked like he was ready to puke once he got to the top. Kudos to the old guy for making it look easy. Lol.

  • i hate the secret i was all happy when i got up there and turns out its like a third of the whole thing hahaha threw up my first time ] hell of a workout ;)

  • @frijolero117 the last time i went i thought i was going to but i didnt , now i do it every week

  • Great Video, Beautifu State.. I climbed 92 steps at Tahquamenon Falls State Park in Michigan also Climbed 150 Ft on top of Sleepy Bear Sand Dunes.. I would try this.. looks like alot of fun and work..

  • Looks like work.

    *****

  • @ib2fast its fun

  • howd u guys do getting back down? haha

  • When I was a kid there was a train that ran strait up those ties. Then it was another 13 miles to the top of pikes peak.We used to walk up the trail next to the train and mess with the tourists. Those were the days...1970.

  • i did that today

  • Poor papa!

  • If anything, that would be good training.

  • I've run in Track and doing Cross Country, going up this thing tomorrow morning, Lol I told my dad I'm going in the morning and he said "NO" but I'm an adult and I crave adventure so screw him I'm going and there's nothing he can do about it. This will be my first time.

  • actually its in manitou lol

  • I'm going this saturday!

    I can't wait!

  • I LOVE this hike.

Check out my footage of it in a video titled, 'Strait & Narrow'.

  • This is awesome! I didn't realize this was something you could hike! ...which is weird 'cause I live in the Springs and see the thing all the time!

  • What is The Secret anyway (mentioned after 0:35)?

  • The top you see when you begin is only 2/3 of the way. You don't know that until you clear the top of it. :)

  • Thank you very much!!! Also, how long was the recovery period after this climb? I am 44 years old, 282 pounds, with severe asthma, and not necessarily in shape, so what would it be for me? I can walk up to 60 blocks or so (3 miles) in Cheyenne.

  • It's called the false ending. =] I'm heading out to do it an about an hour.

  • @IQ136 my friend it is a false summit...

  • How long did it take for your Dad to feel better? When you walked up those steps/RRties, you also went from the Upper Sonoran or High Plains Biotic Life Zone through the Transition or Foothills Zone at the base of the (former tracks)/trail and continued well into the Montane or Canadian Zone. If you could continue higher you would have entered the Treeline or Hudsonian Zone, the Alpine or Arctic Zone, and if Pikes Peak were higher, the Icecap Zone. It's like you walked to central Canada!!!

  • I always wanted to go up that (but I live in Cheyenne (and on a very clear day we can see Pikes Peak 180 miles south from here--at least we could in 1985)). Hey does anyone know what the High Point & Camera Obscura is/was and is it still in Colorado Springs?

  • Hi IQ136... I remember the Camera Obscura. Its not there anymore. Do you remember the Indian Mummy just down from there? The Camera Obscura was a large inverted mirror within which you could view a large portion of the Garden of the Gods. Believe it or not, I had to be RESCUED by the Fire Dept climbing without ropes at that very spot from the rocks... ( the Camera Obscura was still there... people were watching me with those 25 cent binoculars!)

  • I have to add the comment that your family is a bunch of troopers to climb it. we never made it (on acct of the bear). but to watch the video of you all is great! Lots of luck. Thanks for the great video. Joe.

  • Hey Joe, thanks for the comments. I enjoyed them just as much.

  • with two friends just after the haymen fire (2003) had a bear follow up this same incline. we kept going, but only got to the part that was steep then it was there. we still could see the parking lot pretty clear so we weren't to far. We swung our camel backs and yelled at the bear and he moved along back into the brush. We scooted back down to the Town House Lounge Bar for a stiff one. Joe and Shanon from Woodland Park.

  • Nice job with the video, climbed it yesterday 11.11.08, lovely weather & great views, came down the Barr Trail.

  • I just did The Incline today....my third time! It was no easier (cuz I gained a lil, well a lot of weight) lol Your Dad and family did an EXCELLENT job!

  • I applaud you 3rd times a charm right. I'm so proud of you keep up the good work

  • Did this incline is amazing.. haha just did it with my little cousin and bro a few days ago for the first time...and made a little video out of it. DUDE not even half way up there I was already gettin tired. I'm gonna try to make time to do this incline 3 times a month. Its a really coolplace.

  • After watching this video I hope to do this hike with my son when I go to visit him in CO. Any advise in getting in shape? I live in Fl. Your dad did great! what an awesome family!

  • It will help if you hit the eliptical, stair stepper or jog one month prior to your visit. The nice part about it is there is no time limit. Get an early morning start, bring plenty of water and enjoy it. Good luck!

  • @CrossfitBrent i agree

  • You most likely will need to get use to the altitude before doing it and that can take a day or two

But other than that its pretty easy

Just take as many breaks as you need and its a piece of cake :)

  • @marysean buddy i do the incline every week. i am a young man and certainly in ok shape, but my neighbors are not and they are fat. they did ok . with very well hydrated bodies. it is basically a mentality if you think you have the guts to do it chances are you will do great, if your not really into it your prolly gunna wuss out a bit, but in all aspects. its amazing and an experience all in its own. please i implore you to walk every day, maybe a jog once in a while and make sure of ur lungs :)

  • Where is the best place to park when doing the incline?

  • Well, the ideal place would be to park at the top! On a serious note, if you drive past the COG station, there will be a steep road up to a small parking lot at the base of Barr Trail. From that parking lot, take the trail off to the north of the parking lot and it takes you right up to the base. Have fun!

  • where ever you can find a spot its crowded, but it feels good once you finish. I recommend the barr trail on the way down.

  • ya i made the mistake of running down the incline and ended up needin 8 stitches in my knee....

  • Good job on the video. I am very impressed by your whole family. I am 35 and in pretty good shape and I did the Incline for the first time yesterday and it just about kicked my butt. Awesome feeling at the top! Kudos!

  • Thanks! Yeah, good 'ol pops is looking at knocking off 15+ minutes next time he comes out in August. We'll see that goes...

You should look at hiking the 14 mile hike to the peak. Fun hike! Peace out...

  • poor dad.hes got alot of stamina.hats off to him from ireland
