Are you sure this is a copperhead? Did the eye have elliptical (oval-shaped) or rounded pupils? All the pit vipers (cottonmouths, copperheads, and rattlers) in the U.S. have elliptical ones. Also, generally, copperheads don't get that long. Can't see the head real well--could be a cottonmouth, but the tail length suggests nonpoisonous water snake. I have found water snakes far from water, so don't count that one out. Learn the snakes to see which ones are really a threat...very few are.
