I remember going on this ride for the first time and I had no idea we would go to OZ! I was just ENCHANTED and started to cry from JOY! Thanks for posting! By and By, I saw one pair of Judy's ruby slippers at the Smithsonian and that made me cry too. Do you know where the other pair is? Disney Forever!
Nope, there are not real props anywhere on the ride. There are some before the ride and for a long time they had a villains display at MGM that did have a few Oz props such as the Witch's hat.
i remember the story on that. Several years ago there were 5 pairs left that were actually worn by Judy Garland (of course they didn't use only one pair). Of those five, only two remain, the rest had been stolen. They didn't want to risk losing such an iconic symbol of this classic film.
omg! i remember this ride! last time i went on it i was 8, coz when i went when i was 12, they were referbishing it! blatently going on it next year, 10years later haha
I'm such a goober whenever I ride this ride...when the guide asks, "Which way do you think we should go?" I always think he's talking to the audience, and I jump right in and reply, "To Oz!" Because that's what Dorothy and Scarecrow say to each other in the movie right before they head off together. But most people probably don't remember that and I'm sure it comes off as ultra obvious and silly on my part. Next time I'm in WDW and riding this I'll have to make a mental note not to do that!
Because Disney rocks. Even when they get permission to use things that aren't technically theirs. They know how to make a good quality theme park ride or attraction, whatever the inspiration. The billions of dollars they make are for a reason.
Elphie rocks! I stick to my belief that Wicked IS the Witch's side of the MGM Ozian canon, because the Witch was nameless and lacked a backstory until Wicked came along, anyway. And thankfully, Wicked CAN--IMO--still be a prequel (and continuation) of the film despite flaws, because Elphie went insane anyway...so some of her stuff may've been made up (Ex: I would like to think that Elphie DID die, but like all "good villains" can NOT truly be killed, hence her revival).
No, it is a recreation, a very good one, but not the original. The original production was filmed at Metro Goldwyn Mayer studios in Culver City, California, which is now Sony Pictures.
I worked there in 2004 and it was pretty much hell, even worked with FAT people was hard to deal with. I can stake claim that I had sex in the TARZAN scene. Say hi to a good friend of mine Ingmar Burgos at the ride. The manager Randy is a solid guy, however there was a big fat homo named Chuck that got me fired. I have photos of the witch back stage with all the mechanix and she cost over $200,000... good sex, bad ride. Disney = crooked as hell
dOES ANYBODY KNOW THE TRUTH ABOUT THE mgm LION? WELL I'LL TELL YOU. TWO MEN ROB A BANK, AND RUN IN TO THE STUDIO. LEO MAULS ONE, AND THE OTHER RUNS OUT AND GETS RUN-OVER.
Actually, this attraction is still open. Good thing too, it's classic! Too bad they hid the Chinese Theater behind the Sorcerer hat. It's nice, but somewhere in the Animation Courtyard would have been better.

It's a shame that none of the "Oz" principles lived to see this.

so were they all the characters robots?
cuz they moved pretty fast for robots
swabrother 4 years ago
Nope, they're animatronics. instead of robotic mechanics, they run on hydrolics. that's what makes them so life-like.
