@CSXtrackworker haha are you serious?!?! the same horsepower and torque? a general rule of thumb about diesels (as im sure you're aware as a csx track worker)... tq is ALWAYS more than HP. if this was a diesel with 1000+hp his tq would be 1500-1800. tq is what makes a vehicle go. put a 100hp honda versus a 4BT cummins engine with 105hp.... and see who the winner is

@ilovegoatsecks Sorry youngman but I am also an ase certified mechanic. Tqe will get you off the line fast, horsepower is what will win it for you in the end. Always has been that way. I have done engine builds on both diesels and gassers and you can make that type of torque with a gasser. Your torque will always be dependant on what size rear end your vehicle has. The bigger the rear the higher your torque rateing will be. Always been that way too.

@67ford1 There are quite a few reasons: Diesel has higher energy content per gallon and will always get better mileage for any given amount of work done. Diesels don't have throttle plates of any kind, they always take full breaths of air and run at max effeciency with zero vacuum - fuel is used to control power and RPM they can be run extremely lean during light thottle, idle and cruising. Adding power doesn't affect any of that, in fact it often helps mileage.

@67ford1 I could go into more detail but those are a brief rundown of 2 major reasons. Compare that to a gas engine with a throttle plate that is used to control power and RPM - it is constantly restricting the engine and keeping it from running at it's max effeciency except at wide open thottle.

@vans1107 Nope, all motor with a little bit of methanol to cool things down. Last time we changed the pulleys added a little bit more methanol and it made 1136 HP at the wheels.
