@plamster No, the ending isn't that sad. It isn't as happy as it could be, but the very ending isn't that depressing. Caution, though: you might think that what the ending isn't is actually the ending, and that is horribly sad, but just wait until the anime actually ends, it gets a lot better.

Yuka was a desperate psycho ._. IMO... She was great at first, then when she got rejected, she cracked and after that she started not caring about her friends and trying to kill one of them, and so on...she helped the enemy and caused a bunch of trouble and unneeded drama too...only helping out a little.

Ahem...aside from that, the anime was great. Kind of sucks that the assassin girl had to die at the moment she found tons of happiness ._.

@plamster I'm not really good at making the plot of anime sound exciting, but yes, it is basically all of those genes. I thought it was a really good anime to be honest, and I watched the anime first before even knowing it had games. The main character isn't THAT great to be honest, but his hidden power is what makes him good, not his skill with a blade. Anyway, to answer the question you asked Togilicious, the anime has both a bad/sad and a good ending.

yeah love the OP... the show seems pretty ok as well. only watched about 4 episodes so far... more than 10 new animes launched in 2010 already so im busy checking them out :D this is one of the more promising ones... although it does remind me an awful lot about Shakugan no Shana for some reason..
