This video is a little too much edited toward bias but everyone has a right to their opinion. One thing I think taken erroneously is Jon Stewart. He is a comedian and not a financial consultant. If you think Stewart is a financial journalist I suggest you look at reality of his career. Jim Cramer is a financial analyst but no one should 100% trust financial analysts because the stock market is dynamic and can change erratically.

True, but it was the leveraging of those derivatives at 30 to 1 that killed the banks. They were thought to be totally safe. Derivatives have been around a long time, and this did not happen. A mutual fund is a derivative. Leverage was the problem, not derivatives.

However, some derivatives should have never been allowed, like subprime mortgage backed securities. They create too much moral hazard.

That's a derivative. What is the real investment in that story? The horse and nothing else.
