I'm from Santa Clarita, and I go to San Bernandino and Fontana for my work. One thing I can say to you guys is that I am mad jealous of your ditches. Every time I see them I want skate them.
And to be fair, pretty much all of these people were college-aged (since I was college-aged myself). So it may have had to do with the tendency to feel really self-conscious at that age.
Hey to all of you that live in Berdoo and long to escape there. You can do it. I finally left that shithole for good on Obama-day November 4,2008. I tried and tried to leave since 1996, but, something always pulled me back(big ups to the commenter that called it a black hole). I only went back for a funeral(Cruz Chacon-love ya bro) in april 2009 and haven't been back. Nor do I plan on going back. Maybe, just maybe, for the San Manuel Pow Wow in October at Cal State SB sometime. FUCK BERDOO ! !
we got in your car and you sucked my dick till i came in your face and i felt kinda bad but it didnt matter to me i got a blow job it got in your eye and you started crying it was funny but i didnt want to laugh because you just sucked my dick your choking on a big load and i want to cum again so swallow like a good girl here comes more goo.. im sorry, i love this song but this popped into my head. it goes with the song pretty well, put these words in it might make you laugh lol.. luv this sng
@rtifishul...umm...yeah...SB is like 60 miles from LA...why *would* you tell people you're from LA? That'd be like being from Tampa and telling people you're from Orlando. Good job on telling people you're from where you're from; quite an accomplishment.
What a fucking gross song. I hate kids. And that's fucked up to go into some poor indian couple's motel room and leave placenta and vaginal juices clogging up their drain. Who';s gonna pay to clean that up John? Or did you just eat it like a mother deer does? Sickening.....Good song though.
Fuck all these motherfuckers who bad-mouth the city from which they come.
I grew up there, and while I had a profound loathing for it, I tell people I am from San Bernardino and not Los Angeles. Go ahead and continue to wallow in your disdain, you'll never make it out anyway, and rightfully so. This song is rather nice.
@rtifishul "I tell people I am from San Bernardino and not Los Angeles"
Oh god, I found out about the people who say they're from LA vs the people who say where they're really from when I moved from Socal to Norcal. Everyone I met was telling me that they were from LA, and I thought it was really strange because I never met so many people from LA when I lived closer to that city. Finally I figured out that people just claim to be from LA when they're embarrassed about being from inland Socal.
@anemone9 I have to tell people that I'm from LA when I'm in other states because no one knows where the fuck Fontana is, but I usually clarify that I am from "45 minutes east of LA". There is no reason to be embarrassed of the IE.
Oh yeah, I completely understand saying that you're from LA out of convenience. When I'm outside of CA, I just tell people the general area I'm from, too. But still, I've met a lot of people (and I mean a lot) who are clearly reluctant to say that they're from the IE.
i was listening to this song in a parked car, and during the rising synthesizer part around 1:13 we were hit by a speeding truck. scared the shit out of me
It's absolutely amazing how much five words can change a song... for most of it, I thought that it was just a romantic pair of teens being all escapist-y and whatnot, & it was still a beautiful song, but... more trivial, somehow.
Then, "And our new son cried". And I was just, 'Oh.'
I was born here, and SnBdo. is really a sorry town. Rialto was okay in the sixties, but not anymore. Fontana, Colton, Bloomington, Redlands, and Loma Linda all look pretty much the same. Most people do not know, but I have seen it. The old Norton AFB has an underground hanger about the size of a football stadium. It is nearly five thousand foot below and It has a rail system that connects it to about 139 other bases around the USA. (or so heard). Now "Norton" is called SB International Airport!
I love this song so much; reminds me of a sunrise beaming of a light of hope over a massive shithole that's been enveloped in the cold and dark of despair for so long no one remembers what hope feels like...not trying to harsh on San Bernadino, CA (never been there :P ), but the music strikes a weird chord with me...inspiring in many ways, yet ominous.
This is probably one of the most beautiful songs the mountain goats has ever made. This is also probably one of the most literary/ironic/beautiful/funny/crazy-interesting comic strip frames i've ever seen...unfortunately the 2 don't go together at ALL.
yes he is talking about your city. it's not like he's trying to state that it's the greatest city in the world. he's telling a story, as damn near all of john's songs do. it's about (from what i've gathered) a couple who just had a baby that they weren't necessarily prepared for, but they love each other and they're going to try their best to take care of him, despite everyone's skepticism. san bernardino is where they've stopped on their way to their new life together. that's my thought.
great song, but i don't see how this guy ever could have visited Berdoo and then wrote a song like this. it only works for me in an extremely ironic mode, in a "San Bernardino welcomes you to the ninth circle of hell/ everything's going to be ok even though we're in San Bernardino" sort of sense. lucky for him and his family they didn't venture further into the city than a motel off the highway!

I live in SB. No Mountain goats here....not even up the hill in Lake Arrowhead or Big Bear.
