I don't know too much about him, I tried to learn as much as possible about him, but honestly what i see is that as usual he was a nice guy when he was supporting Israel and the UK, and that then he became a bad guy. Honestly People can say what they want to about Amin. And i used to be one of those people who belived all the western press about how much of a tyrant this man was. And yes he is a tyrant weather he killed 1 or 300,000 people like they claimed he did. But one thing i respect about Amin is he was a pan Afrcanist.He kicked the indians out of Uganda becasue he belived Ugandans should control thier own destiny as far as the economy was concerned. which was a good thing.

Was he really a bad man or just a misunderstood man? Did he not want what was best for his people? He believed that if he removed all opposition to his policies that eventually his people would thrive under his leadership. Maybe his ways were a bit brutal in some regards, but is that any reason to condemn him as an evil man? I'm sure that his Mother loved him, and his sisters too (the ones he didn't put to death). Who are we to judge him? He never had a chance to prove himself to the world.

@yolajosefiyo I agree with you that he should have murdered his political opposition in a more human way; public relations is everything these days, and even more back then. He removed the evil British from his country and the Indian's who owned 80% of business, and that is why he was a fighter for his people. His ways were sometimes a little ruthless, but then again, his opposition was after his removal, so what would you expect? He should have been given more of a chance to turn things around.

Most Americans think that Franklin Roosevelt was great for their country when in fact his policies extended their great depression. Of course the situation is the opposite with Mr. Amin. Was he a perfect ruler? Of course not. Did he tend to go a little overboard in quieting the speech of his opposition by killing them? Yes he did.

He promised to improve the conditions of his people when in fact he only wanted to stay in power . And i repeat this again he was not a misunderstood man. And i belive Franklin Roosevelt was one of your greatest Presidents but thats just my opinion. Dictatorships never work. Democracy is the best system ,you just can't opress the people just because they have a different opinion.

When any man, any leader of a country, thinks so much of himself that his main goal is the continuation of his place in office, then that is when we know we have a problem. And you don't have to be a dictator to have this problem. Many politicians have this problem. They may lie, cheat, steal etc, the reason being is that they believe their continence in power is the best thing for the people. "Only I know what is best, and only I am capable of doing it".

I don't know too much about him, I tried to learn as much as possible about him, but honestly what i see is that as usual he was a nice guy when he was supporting Israel and the UK, and that then he became a bad guy. My view from outside: I think Idi Amin was a real leader, one of the few that have existed in Africa. His nationalism, his leadership has, to some extent, slowed the advance of Western exploitation of Africa.
