For what it's worth, he's actually a very accomplished trombone player. The point isn't how much he played or how little he had to "memorize". In fact, if you were a real musician, you'd have an ear and wouldn't need to memorize anything.

It was really funny, but annoying. The stuff he was playing wasn't hard (I know, I play trombone). The only hard part was having enough air to breathe after dancing for the whole song.

And yes, I KNOW that the point is for him to be dancing, and it IS nice to see trombone on TV, but it makes it seem like trombone players all just dance around and don't do anything.
