Thanks for the video, I just got my first table saw today, it came with short fence but I wasn't sure how far to have it parallel with the blade, now I know and feel happier.
Hello Steve, great video and great idea. However, when I followed your suggestion and went to your website to download the free plans for this jig, I was disappointed to not find it there.
Yes, you are right, it is no longer there. My site has had a couple of revamps since then and I've never got round to finding a home for the plans. However, if you email me (you can do so from my website (it doesn't let me post emails addys here) and ask me nicely, I'll send you the PDF.

How narrow is narrow? The GRR-Ripper goes down to a 1/8th inch width now with the narrow accessory leg. I like this technique, but I'm not sure its all that much better.
I like the short rip fence idea, it is very simple and effective. I built a similar extension lip on my fence based on a project in Woodsmith magazine, that incorporates basically a pushblock that rests on the extension with a short piece of stock that meets with the bed of the table and the pushblock. This surface is what rides between the blade and the lip and allows the pushblock to rest on the lip registered against the fence.
It's called a Festool Domino. It cuts slots. As well as rotating the cutter, like a drill, it waggles it from side to side at the same time. It's very expensive and very excellent at what it does!
I have very short rails because of the limited space in my workshop, and I'd never got round to setting up the short rails properly. I still have the originals which will crosscut an 8x4 sheet, I just don't have the space to use them.
The short fence I use now is a later development of the one in the film (it has a greater resistance to being splayed), but the principle is the same.
Really nice video. You're very easy to understand, and explain the stuff thoroughly.
Keep up the good work. :)

I can't see most of what you are talking about, stay with the close-up view.

Hi Steve, great videos! but be advised I tried many times to go on your website and there has been always a message of error denying the connection.
Hope is only temporary... cheers

it looks like the short fence is positioned right at the leading edge of the saw blad, is this correct?
Robkat3751 1 year ago
@Robkat3751
Not quite. It is positioned just after the topmost tooth bites into the top of the board.
The position is not critical - anywhere after the cut takes place but before the TDC of the blade will be OK.

I'm making this short fence tomorrow. It's a great idea.

Hi, I'd like to know the name of the tool used to make the holes, it appears around minute 5:00.
Thanks.

Nice video, but the damn intro killed my eyes. Maybe consider changing it or at least shorten it.

very nice vid, have you offset the scale on your rip fence scale, as with the fence and the thin strip i's say it'd be about 50mm out?
rknott2006 3 years ago
No I haven't, but I keep meaning to do so.
