Although she has a nice voice, I don't think she captures the essence of what is supposed to be going on when she is singing this. Plus, the way she pronounces tuppence really bothers me. It's tuppence, not topince. Geez. I have to say, I don't really like it. Maybe someone else can sing it with feeling, not just a good voice. sigh. There will never be anyone as good as Julie Andrews.

Beautiful voice, but i dont think she quite understands the point of the song :S Its about a woman taking pity on another, less fortunate creature, whilst still appeciating her condition because she knows she is happy. I think this performance just showed pity and a desperation to help, rather than letting things take their course. However, still a lovely performance. I was dubious as to whther an American could pull of the image of a mystical British Nanny, but she's done a damn good job :)

Julie Andrews herself gave props to Ashley. But Julie and Dick Van Dyke attended the opening night of Mary Poppins and went on stage at the end to hand over the Mary Poppins torch to the new generation.

The movie is unbeatable, but this musical and the likes of Ashley and Gavin are keeping it alive, fresh and known.
