I have four of Steve's knives and they are the best that you can get anywhere and I have looked around and you could not get any better than a SWC Knife and you can bank on that!
Does this knife need to be polised or oiled if left alone on a mantlepiece? What I mean is, will it eventually rust if you leave it dry and exposed, even if its brand new?
What a beautifully made knife, i'm not normally a fixed blade man but that really is something to behold, who ever made that knife deserves a great deal of credit.
@Vengeance: When a knife is made, the steel is soft. Then it is hardened and tempered. The filework is done before hardening, so it doesn't take a "soft" knife to embellish it with filework.
This knife, though (IMHO), is thicker than necessary. 3mm is plenty thick; more than that is just for looks. Again, just MHO.
great filework, but you are sacrificing the sharpness of the blade because the grind is so low, also to do that kind of filework I assume you would need a relatively 'soft' steel, so looks are great, but its not a particularly 'useful' knife. =P
Mighty pretty knife ............... so what are you going to do with it? A knife not used for it's original intentions, is not a knife at all, but a bauble to dangle for ones own entertainment in support of delusional esteem. Waste of money! The Rocky Mountains await challenge!
What did you do to your right thumb? Good looking knife, but I agree w/ maxpullara1 and do not like the finished product compared to the price. Anything w/ my name on it would have to be perfect!
So much work went into the vine and thorn file work and etching of the blade.. It really is nice work but then the scales were drilled a little hastily and the mosaic pins on the right scale have suffered with the gap around middle pin and lanyard hole.. Thats me being fussy as I make blades too.. If you payed over £200 then I would expect perfection!!! I am surprised SWC let it go!
Wasnt it SWC that made a knife for that guy that did "Alone in the wild?" Im sure I saw the design.
Thanks for commenting. The video may give the impression that there are gaps but they are actually scorch marks (or looks like), you are are right that they do look a little rushed, one day i hope to get them re-scaled.
I thought the alone in the wild guy was only armed with a shotgun and electric fence :)
Anyway the knife was a gift from a friend who paid way over the odds on ebay, got a bit carried away.
just another half baked paint tin opener.....its a mass produced over priced twat magnet made completly by machine.

@100trueneutral it is 01 tool steel, which will rust if allowed to, but it takes and holds a beautiful edge.

He should make them with a drop point as the tip is too delicate for heavy-duty field work.

Looks Great. Thats a seriously Stout knife and Geometry. I'd love to hear how it performs. The primary bevel appears to have a very wide angle to it.
Enjoy the knife. i know I would :)
