Considering how easy it is to get a CDL these days, this doesn't surprise me.
Few drivers get the training at a proper driving shool and pass their hack-CDL tests at less than reputable places.
Not to mention these new gen drivers who are dumber than a shit-haulers pigs and depend solely on their "gadgets" like GPS and can't read maps and don't pay attention to road signs.
People are worried about Mexican drivers coming into the US without CDL's meanwhile this shit happens to US drivers more
Well first off the driver prolly didn't speak english. So how could he read the signs. Second thing is I agree that if it is a reoccuring thing there they should put up alot more signs and lights. Stick to the truck routes and you'll be fine.
They need more than signs to stop the trucks. They need to put flashing lights on the bridge along with the hieght signs. I went past (I think it was in Feb. 09) when a truck was stuck under the bridge during a snow storm. All of the signs coming from the west were covered with snow so I would think the driver never had a chance till it was to late. I often wonder if they inspect the bridge after it is hit. Canandaigua, you need to fix this problem PERIOD!!!!
As a tow truck operator in the area, there are 5 signs prior to the bridge, and the bypass...there are signs and lights prior to the bypass. Truck drivers, please stick to the TRUCK ROUTES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And to answer the last part of your post that is an active railroad bridge, and yes they inspect it every time it gets hit...
