  • Actually, knowing the character acting abilities of Gary Oldman, I honestly can't think of a better actor to play such a role. Very few actors today can actually play the given role without injecting their own egotistical personality into it. When you see other so-called top actors, you tend to see the actor first.

I have a distinct feeling that when we see Gary playing George Smiley, we won't see Gary... we will see George Smiley.

That's ACTING. I can already see an Oscar on the horizon.

  • Personally, I'd rather see a dark humor adaptation of Absolute Friends, le Carre's 2005 novel of two aging 60s rebels turned double agents during the Cold War and find themselves adrift in the post-9/11 world. Spans a lot of history, but with a great deal of character depth. And le Carre is at perhaps his angriest -- although A Most Wanted Man may top that for fury.

  • See the BBC version of Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy starring Alec Guinness. I watched it before i read the novel. Terrific suspense. I like Gary Oldman, but i don't see him in the role of George Smiley.
