  • Its funny how all of you 'know' so much about Howard Hughes conveniently following these videos. Some of these comments are repulsive. Everything is a 'who is bigger' contest, get a grip people. Howard Hughes was not a poser like most men in the world. He lived his life the way he wanted, he was himself. We all have the ability to be brilliant geniuses if we can shed our skins and be ourselves. Do not try to live your life via someone else, be yourself. Only god can initiate you now.

  • On display in Ca in Long Beach for many years I took the tour and was on the inside of this Spruce Goose... also ... My dear family friend designs planes and works for the studios making exact models to use in films.... His plant is in riverside Ca... and he and his crew constructed the plane model used in the movie Aviator. These were film moguls involved and stories were rampid about Hughes ... I heard many stories from my friend Toni that were swerling around his plant during the project.

  • i'll be damned, it was probably head injuries that caused his feebleness. makes perfect sense. head trauma can be life altering.

hells angel is a brilliant film. if you ever get a chance to see it, do. it's one of the greatest films of all time. way underrated by hollywood.

  • mental problems or not, he was a very interesting character!!!!

  • @ozzyhead73 Hughes died in physical poverty & didn't make sense compared to his wealth. Later life mirrored a homeless beggar as he shuffled through his house with Kleenex boxes for shoes. A man who simply gave fear permission to consume & alter his reality. When people consider the life of Hughes there is much to celebrate & much to mourn. Fear... any fear takes a tremendous toll when allowed to grow. Why? It never stops with one & fear or phobias are always control freaks!

  • lol OCD . A person can have OCD if they eat one to many hamburgers during a 7 day week.

    What a CROCK.

  • OHH bullshit, Everything in this series of vids is complete conjecture.

Their is not a person living that can present proof about any of this crap.

    My grandfather knew hughes personally.

Because my grandfather was the man who pulled to safety after the crash of his spyplane, Check the facts.

Grampa was a Rescue firefighter in company 62 santa monica.

  • My idol. I have great ideas too, but I am passive and don't do the things I would like to do. How can I get a bit of OCB?

  • Be that as it may...meh, I consider him a genius. I'm surprised to hear there are people out there that believed he had an avg IQ. having spoken with people that actually had interactions with him.

  • @drewnwalker

iqs are total bollocks man. Richard Branson had an iq of 0 because he couldn't even take the test, he's Dixslexic. There's always gonna be haters, fuck em.

  • Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them........

  • @MaoSuratt911 I think its funny that this inspirational quote was actually a joke in the Twelfth Night

  • Obviously a genius and visionary, but clearly suffered from OCD, as well as paranoia.

  • @8:55 ..'he wound up at the hospital' right, the first hospital Howard wound up at was the one in Beverly Hills, he was turn away because, your going to love this story," it was a Sunday and all doctors were off duty" (doctors at the golf course, maybe) As a matter of fact they had a plan to land the plane at a Golf course near by should any problems develop during the test flight. Should have landed at the Golf course, would have gotten medical attention alot faster.

  • There is something really weird and creepy about the lady who is talking about Hughes. Does anyone else think so?

  • He wasn't "mad" or "insane". He had injuries and was a genius. So what if he was an introvert. I respect him more than I do most people today.

  • @drewnwalker Howard was said to have an average IQ. He never earned a college degree.

He had his dads money, & spent it on all his obsessions. Im a Howard fan, but in reading all material on this man for 40 yrs. Obsessed, " I believe brought on by his mother" the money to make that paranoia some what diminish by buying his way to the top. When you have the $ he had, U-can hire the best of the best & thats what he did.

  • @onstageagain I've had the privilege of meeting some people that interacted with the man. He was not of average IQ. I've never seen any decent source declaring an IQ but after talking to them their words are good enough for me. They were telling me what a brilliant engineering mind he had and how he more than held his own with the best that he hired.

He loved his privacy so unfortunately as far as biographies go, it's difficult to say what's what without hearsay.

  • @drewnwalker Howard died in 1976. I ? your statement . 4 the last 8 yrs of his life, he communicated with few, by recordings or phone. Following the death of Hughes in 1976, Dr. Raymond Fowler, President of American Psychological Ass was asked to make a psychological study of Hughes.

Interest in looking over his life to determine how such a vibrant man had become a paranoid eccentric recluse.Fowler spent several yes on this project, He also reported Howard had an average IQ.

  • @onstageagain Its a subject I find fascinating. Is there a book you recommend on Howard? I've picked up a few but honestly there are a few that are really "out there". I wish he actually wrote an autobiography and that whole thing wasn't a hoax.

  • @drewnwalker Empire: His life & madness by Donald L Bartlett & James L Steele new edition 03

    * Howard Hughes: The Hidden Years, & 1 more!

These are 3 books I found worth reading. Anyone who has read a good biography on him will see his mother's OCD , also a germaphobe, over-protection bordered on manic & strict nature made Howard into the person he became. He was most certainly a natural genius. I highly recommend a book on Hughes called Howard Hughes The Untold Story.

  • @onstageagain

Just because he inherited doesn't mean he didn't earn his greatness. Most inheritors use it as a cash cow, or aren't nearly as successful as Hughes. He multiplied the money he inherited by hugh numbers

  • @tubub R- U trying to convince me or U? A shrewd businessman, movie maker, pilot, inventor. The wealth he inherited allowed him to do it . He had an overwhelming need to be a legend in his time. Wanted to do more than anybody else.Egomaniac. He wanted to be viewed as a man who would succeed at whatever he attempted, & he had $-$ to hire the best to help accomplish those goals. If he was a genius, he lost it in the end. Not leaving a Will, the IRS got away with what money was left.

  • @onstageagain

I'm not trying to convince anyone, just not letting some blow hard deride Howard Hughes because he inherited. Who gives a shit that his parents had a successful business? So because his parents who were successful and he inherited therefore his actions are not amazing by themselves? Of course not. He made Hells Angels, not Hughes Tool Co. And life's not about what your born or die with, it's about what you do in between. He's a legend that lived his life to the fullest, take notes

  • @tubub Without the MONEY & the business that Hughes got from his father he would have never accomplished what he did. There are Many Many brilliant people that never have a chance at doing something with there lives because of being born without the means. There R only so many positions at the top my friend . The mass amount of labors out of work by the invaison of illegals is a example. Hughes , needed his dads $ to make his mark , that's why he gives a shit.

  • @onstageagain Since you know so much about these thing how did Nikola Tesla accomplishe so much when had no money to start with he didn't inherit any money but made his mark. Howard Hughes could have done the same thing.

  • @gininuwi35 Tesla was an inventor. Hughes broke flying records. He had to have $ to buy the planes. He purchased RKO & dozens of cameras that cost a fortune at the time .MGM a MAJOR film company had 4 cameras, Hughes RKO had 15, Because he had the $ & was a bit stupid with his spending according to MGM . The old saying holds true, he could walk on water & the haters would scream that he can't swim. At this point, U & I , R just burning daylight.

  • @gininuwi35 Tesla came to the US in 1884 . A much different world at the time. He astonished the world by demonstrating. the wonders of alternating current electricity at a home show. This accomplishment changed the world! After that he could have produced puddy, all who were important were interested.

Hughes was different... Apples and Baseballs to different round items.

  • @onstageagain

You don't get it. There are many brilliant people who are too scared to take risks and have no practical/business acumen to assist whatever other attributes they have. I will agree with the idea that Hughes had a bit of a curve not having to start out from scratch, but there are plenty other adventure Capitalists that were also hugely successful that didn't inherit. Richard Branson comes to mind. Correct me if I'm wrong, but are you just jealous and making excuses for YOURSELF?

  • @tubub U know many brilliant people who R scared to take risks? What crowd do U hang in? Branson living in a London commune, surrounded by music & a drug scene came up with the idea to begin a mail-order company to help fund his magazine efforts. It barely made it, & eventually made enough to expand a business venture. All Hard Work, regardless of dyslexia & dropping out of school. Unlike Hughes, He had nothing handed to him! Jealous? Noting to be jealous of. Im above the ground !

  • @onstageagain I didn't read you're comment after you typed "R" instead of "are".

  • @shutthefuckuploser U can read what U like... I'm not interested in what U read or don't read...or the reasons for it . I don't know U, so it doesn't matter. A very wise man once said, “it's better to let people think Ur stupid than to open Ur mouth & proove Ur stupid ! "

  • @tubub Hughes was a flashy pilot-breaking records, achieving, Lindbergh-like fame,around-the-world in 38- he was a visionary in aviation tech. Craving recognition in all he attempted ,he wanted to fly higher, faster & farther & pushed engineers relentlessly, often resulting in breakthroughs. He had dads $-$ to hire the best. Its easy to rem his weird eccentricities , If not for dads $, probably been put in a funny farm. Rem Hughes as he would have wanted it, as the Aviator.

  • @onstageagain

Most geniuses are eccentrics. Steve Jobs was a major asshole and had a lot of weird notions about things(his obsession with dietary habits killed him), and that's just one example.

Hughes was a visionary and genius. I'm not sure if he'd accomplished everything without his inheritance, but it doesn't really matter anyway.

It was Howard Hughes who made Hells Angels, Howard Hughes who made the Spruce Goose, Howard Hughes who accomplished amazing feats. Not his parents.

  • @tubub Eccentrics... It’s hard to imagine having access to millions at age 19, then making decisions that cause millions to continue to impact Ur life. Course that came at a price. These funds were inherited. His Own Words, I’m not a paranoid deranged millionaire, I’m a billionaire. The door to the cabinet is to be opened using min of 15 Kleenexes.

Wash 4 distinct & separate times, using lots of lather each time from different bars of soap.

My father told me, never have partners

  • @tubub Most geniuses aren't necessarily eccentric & live relatively normal lives & prefer to live in their own heads, with their thoughts, they never become socialized like other people , & will likely find conversations about sports & celebrities insane, so he'll avoid participating in social activities & consider them a waste of time. Resulting , when he's required to attend a social event, he's awkward & probably seems weird b/c his conversations will be limited to his obsessions.

  • @drewnwalker Absolutely true !! Greetings from Germany !

  • @drewnwalker You're not wrong necessarily but I have a feeling you haven't finished this special yet. Though I'm sure you have by now. Do you still feel that he was just an introvert?

  • 2:11 IS BREATHTAKING NOW THAT'S GRANGER.

  • I do everything Hughes did. Damn .. maybe I'm crazy too!!!

  • @damthatriver09 Are you the richest man alive, then? If not then surely you are crazy! LOL!

  • @cedrikledlp dick..

  • @damthatriver09

    homo..

  • @cedrikledlp stfu

  • He may have gone to pieces in the end but it isnt any of our place to judge him... as Richard Gere said in 'The Hoax' - "He's Howard Hughes, who the fuck are they?'

  • Learn how to pronounce the city name "houston", it is the 4th biggest city in America and the home of many of the world's largest energy companies.

  • WOW! Try to go from baggage handler to co-pilot now. IMPOSSIBLE!! Truth of the matter is Howard Hughes was a terrible pilot.

  • @refusetoassimilate that's actually not true. his mishaps stem from airplane malfunctions, not pilot error

  • i thought it was (ocd)(obsessive compulsive disorter)

  • Whooston? LOL

  • This brilliant guy suffered from OCB (obsessive compulsive behaviour) (like Jack Nicholson in the movie ' as good as it gets) After his accidents, HH was given morphin because of his injuries, then became addicted. Then he became a junky with the help of his chief of staff who would trade morphin shots for signatures (!) giving him and the rest of the close staff, more and more of HH'assets until he was no longer worth being kept alive...

  • @cedrikledlp

    "OCD" (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)

  • @cedrikledlp you mean OCD (Obsessive–compulsive disorder)

  • @vorjay Hughes contracted Syphilis, form his sleeping parteners. He had a aversion to handshaking, b/c the disease came up on his hands in the form of blisters. He got med treatment & was warned by doc's not to shake hands, & avoided it the rest of his life. Syphilis was responsible for Hughs burning his clothes, Not b/c Hepburn left him. Reality, he overeacted to the syphilis diagnosis, ordering all clothing & bed linen destroyed.

  • @onstageagain uhm yea. Howard Hughes had OCD...it wen't beyond shaking hands. He was terrible of Germs and bacterial infections. His mother also showed serious signs of OCD and constantly warned Hughes about germs.

  • @cedrikledlp he used codeine not morphine

  • @cedrikledlp Truth is, Hughes was far better at spending $-$ than making it. He hired top of the line business managers, who built up his assets faster than he spend it on planes & movies. His 1st film, Hell's Angels, was the most expensive ever made till then. almost 4 million, all from daddy's company. He bought more planes to make it , then the air force fleets of some countries. It paid off, the film earned a 20 min standing ovation & critical raves. He loved being applauded.

  • @cedrikledlp Sounds like you finished watching the special already. I'm going to see the spruce within the next couple days. All these years I've been oblivious to the fact The Hercules is only AN HOURS DRIVE away from me in Portland Oregon! I am STOKED! Maybe I'll post after I see it. I wonder if they let you inside the plane? I sure hope so. I'd hate to only see it cosmetically. Oh, bye the way, it wasn't Jack Nicholson in the movie. It was Leo dicaprio. Hard to mix the two but whatever...

  • obviously hit his head one too many times

  • incredible his history.

  • @alexrj2 Hughes was better spending $-$ than making it. He hired big business managers, who built his assets faster than he spend it. Same with women, lots of evidence suggests Hughes libido was never as strong as he pretended. He slept with countless women, stars & lesser known debutantes. Obsession was more in collecting women than loving them. The image of himself he loved & wanted & one was as Hollywood's biggest playboy that he loved. A man with a small self image of himself .

  • great video

  • thank you very much...AMAZING...seems like theres always uuhmm cons or something to being a GENIUS..like pros n cons or whatevr

  • awesome video :)
