How NOT TO conduct an interview 101. This chick is soooooo lame. I like the non verbal expressions from Steve and Kerry when she opened with the stupid story about her sister. Says it all LOL
Um, hello!!!!!!!!! Go thru your Kansas albums from 1974 till 1981 and see how many say "Livgren/Walsh or Walsh/Livgren" ........they wrote MANY songs togehter!!!
@crickert23 Actually, although many of the songs are penned Livgren/Walsh or Walsh/Livgren, any particular song was primarily written by one or the other (the 1st person on the credits). The only song I'm aware of that they really collaborated on was "Mysteries & Mayhem" from the Masque album.
wow is this awkward! what are livgren and walsh shlepping for this BITD? wow sartoriallly lame...the voice and the songwriter 2gether. Nothing beats Walsh's first solo record...looks like a pinball game, perhaps it was supposed to.
This, I think, is the only time I've ever heard Steve's speaking voice. When Kerry mentions Steve leaving the band, Steve has this look like, "Why did you have to mention that? I'm so ashamed!" Nice shades Kerry! Ooooohhh you are smooth!
Thanks a lot for posting this. I saw this show they are talking about, at the Celebrity in 1990. The crowd was so wild at the beginning off the show, it almost seemed the band was overwhelmed by it.
I heard on the radio that Kansas with the all original members got back together prior to the day of the show, but when the smoke cleared, I could not recognize the violinist. I looked at my buddy and we were saying hey thats not Robby! That was the first time I saw Ragsdale.
If I was going to meet Kansas I would be prepared and with a list of questions, but I think I would rather listen than talk. This chick just wasted her moment!
Could this be any more uncomfortable to watch? Watching Steve is like watching a 3 year old who doesn't want to be on stage-- he's fidgeting, cracking his knuckles, sitting on his hands, making faces.. LOL! It's like he's doing anything to keep from popping this dingbat across the face. Good thing Kerry had his glasses on, that way no one could see his eyes rolling! Hope this goofy chick didn't keep this job long. What a riot.
No one (not trying to beat my chest),but no one is a bigger Kansas fan than I .I lived ,sleep, breathe, dream for These guys. While all my freinds where listening to Led Zep,Sabbath, and all the other bands out there I was trying to indoctranate my freinds into being loyal Kansas fans.I know its very weird as I look at it now(I'm 45)but I use to try and dress like Steve Waslh with the
addidas shorts, tub socks and addidas sneakers with no shirt. I thought I was Cool ! You Rock Stevo!
WOW!!!! I used to watch this show RELIGIOUSLY here in LA! I was watching this show when Richard March (Singer Mel Torme's Son) used to originally host, and have NEVER seen this interview, and being a HUGE Kansas fan! Thanx for putting this up! -MAVIII(prOgulus. c o m)
I know all tv interviewers have to cut their teeth somehow, but jeeeeez! How the hell did this chick ever get this job? She obviously had no idea the greatness she was in the presence of! I love how she blames the record label for her being unprepared! Hey sweetheart! It's called RESEARCH!!! Steve's joke just fell flat and then it gets worse. We're not talking girth, are we? So, um, yeah, like go check 'em out. Should be fun. Or,Being a child of the 70's I know! I know what was going on! What?!?
Being a Kansas fan (obviously), I always wondered why Kerry and Steve didn't write more songs together when they were in Kansas together. But after watching this video it's apparent that other than being in the same band together, they really couldn't be more different from each other. I think this is why they didn't really collaborate with each other in the song writing process.
I didn't know this interview existed. I've never seen Kerry and Steve being interviewed together before. Interesting, even with the cheezy interviewer.

You could tell that Kerry wanted to control the conversation. Steve could hardly get a couple of sentences in!

Steve is not saying much because he is obviously agitated about being interviewed by the unprepared brainless twit.

I believe Steve was doing a lot of drugs through this period if I'm not mistaken. Luckily he quit around the end of the 90's.

Yeah, he was probably glad he was high as a kite during this interview... and Kerry's probably wishing he was!!! LOL :-)

Hey steve: is it true you left kansas because you did not want to sing kerry's christian overtone lyrics. Then when kerry left you came back.
that would have been a mind blow had she ever asked that!
