used too smoke through tires on my cogar on Virginia street and CArson Street and race between teh 2 cruise spots every fri and saturday. Cruising all night would cost 13 dollars and a graveyard special of 99 cents and free coffee for the trip home. great days bussing table at the Ormsby house and then going to school to sleep, get my assignments and then off to work to do homework and work. Awesome.
He's a BRILLIANT songwriter with an inimitable voice. I never cared for his thin, tinny overtrebled guitar tone, but he's definately an adept guitarist. Jeff Golub's chunky tone helped fill in the cracks.
I bought Signs of Life in 1984 as a teenager, but listening to this for the first time in perhaps 20 years, I find that keyboard riff in the pre-chorus (right after the "art of survival" lyric at 1:06, 2:05 and 3:32) completely out of place here on what is otherwise a seriously hard-rockin' tune. Sigh, how typically 80s.
probably cause hes not really one of the first guitarist names u think of...people think more in lines of van halen,clapton,hendrix....those kind of names
alright...deep breath..i luv this...I cant believe it was really almost 25 years ago that I dreamed of geting my first car and playing this song as I drove off as my parents watched. Well anyway, this song still rocks and so do I...And anyone else that still loves it.!!!
My second concert was Billy on this tour with Ratt. Worcester Centrum. Joe Perry came up and played Walkin the Dog with Ratt. Just saw Billy with Ringo last week and he still sounds as good as he did in 84.
He was one hell of a guitarist too. Damn, I didn't know he did lead. I just assumed he belted out songs and strummed rhythm. Impressive riffs he's got there.
I was a huge Squier fan in the 80's. Even joined his fan club. The first songs I learned on guitar were Billy Squier's. My sisters always teased me that he was gay. I still love his music, and figure he probably is gay, but I really could care less. Met him in the early 90's after a gig - He was having some cat fight with a chick. Didn't seem like the coolest guy, or the happiest. Oddly, I don't remember this song and I had all his stuff - even the Piper stuff on LP!!!
slangmano1, I saw Billy front the Who at the Cottonbowl in Texas, Who's final tour. It was awesome. When he encored the stroke, the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders carried him onto the stage.
What the Fuck you talking about akasnowmaaan. Your a Fucking Idiot. Billy is his own Man. He does not have to try to be someone he's not. Saw him in Concert and he kicks ass. No one can Reproduce his Voice which makes him Unique. So shut the fuck up.
At 00.16 Squier looks like Sylvester Stallone from "Rambo 2" ....great solo!! couple of Eddie Van Halen moves...squier is such an underated guitarist!!!
I was at this show at the Spectrum in Philly also, I remember Billy apologizing for having to do this song twice for the video. What a show. Who cares what his preference is, just enjoy the music!
Has anyone given any thought to bi-sexuality? I thought it was common knowledge that the 80's were CRAZY times, and what happened in the 80's stays in the 80's until it comes back again...like everything does...cycles...have any of you given any thought to experimentation?
Jeez a lot of homophobes out there, just because he released a cheezy 80's video with him dancing doesn't make him gay, A lot of people looked gay in the 80's in retrospect, hes just doing a bad Mcjagger imitation. According to Howard Stern who was friends with Billy in 1980 Billy was a huge pussy hound.
Why do they pick on Billy for? I personally think Rock Me tonight video was HOT! Then again I am a female. They need to head over to Nsync, now those were gay dudes
Those people bought the media lie that Billy was gay...He is far from it. He was a babe hound.Slept with tons o women back then. Some famous some not. He's been happliy married for 7 years now. I agree most pop artists today are worthless gay posers w/no true talent.
Billy Squire Rocks! The music and lyrics is all in him. He moves with every note. He really knows how to jam! You can tell he loves music, he lived music, he gave great songs to us. He Rocks!
You're right...he really does rock. I saw him perform twice in Tulsa and they were AWESOME shows... I got to meet him and he wan't very cool, but Bobby Chounard and Alan St Jon were. It was a cool time.
to those who think billy isnt gay , refer to "rock me tonite" video... bad dancer yes , gay oh yes , kiled his career yup , should have killed his video director, Kenny 'im so gay' Ortega yup again
Heroin is what ruined his career....or that's what was said at the time he went to Rehab....he was near death. Gay or straight, who cares! he was still a great performer! Still love to watch these video's.
From those that know him personally and have been asked, Billy is most definitely a gay man. He's currently working as a ranger in New York and loves the job. No doubt, he loves it in a gay, gay way.
I always wondered about billy...what happend...It's sad to read. He is such a great artist. I love his synth combination with rock, in this song it gave me goose-bumps. Just takes me back to when I was 13.Moonlightmayhem, your soo luck to have seen and heard this song...twice! cool! My uncle used to have his records. I need to get his greatest hits!!! Let's give Billy is dues!!! Thanks for the memories!
I was actually at this concert in 1985 when they filmed this. This was the first concert I ever went to, I was 13 and I begged my older sister to drag me along because I was such a big fan. This was filmed at the Philadelphia Spectrum with Ratt as the opening act. They played this song twice to get different camera angles, later on in the show Billy actually cracked a couple of ribs humping the stage. He did finish the show though. Great Music from a great songwriter.
I was just going to post the same thing - that show with Billy Squier and Ratt was my second concert ever. The Spectrum was a really fun place to see shows... Thanks for confirming that my almost 40 year old memory still works occasionally!
Why all this talk about Bily Squier being gay when the drummer plays on a pink drum set?!?

I agree completely. A screaming Hammond organ would have been much better.

I wonder why Billy Squier is never mentioned when people talk about great guitarist's. I've never heard anyone talk or comment about how good he is.
RonT882001 3 years ago
Probably because he isn't a great guitarist.

Right! Anyone who thinks Billy squire is a guitar great doesn't know anything about the guitar & guitar playing.

That's simply your opinion, that doesn't make it true! If you don't like the artist why are you watching the video? Peace Out!

Dude isn't gay, he just tried to be Mick Jagger or Bowie and failed miserably at it.
He should have stuck to his swishy Robert Plant act and he would have been OK.
