My family is also from this area, but they live in a bigger village so the conditions are better there. People from the small villages always come there to do the groceries and stuff.
It's a step back in time; a glimpse of Europe as it was, and occasionally still is. I have seen places like this on France too. It's not like this in Britain, though, where land is expensive, and there are not many properties like this left. The bourgeoisie love to play at being peasants. Those properties remaining would sell for a ridiculously high price
People need to understand that this is probably the worst condition you can find in Western Ukraine. I am from a village in a Western Ukraine, and the situation there is much better than it is shown in this video. I think a lot of people falsely assume that just because it is like it in this video, all of Western Ukraine is in the same condition. But that is just a very dumb hypothesis to believe...
@Godzhur: I was not attempting to show the worst; this simply is video of my family. But you are right, the conditions shown here are among the worst. I am from the US but I lived in Pidhajtsi for a year & traveled throughout Ternopil & Ivano-Frankivsk oblast, though not much of Lviv. Though this video does represent a poor condition, it does not represent an uncommon condition. I would say: Though not everyone in W Ukraine lives like this, there are everywhere in W Ukraine those that do. . .
@dykun - I love this video. My Dad was born in 1927 and this video is typical of how he lived as a boy before the Germans took him at 14 years old. I completely agree with your comments dykun. Whilst the majority probably do not live like this now - we should never forget, or be ashamed of those who still do.
She looks exactly the same as my baba who is now 95yrs. Her name is Ann Wozniak and she is here in Canada, however ; from ternopol ukraine. Thanks for the video, I love it.
she reminds me of my grandmother. she lives in Ukrain...erm..a village called Kamin i think... however you spell rock in ukrainian...i think... well yea.
I love the ramp for the hens. (and ducks if their fat-asses can get up there! LOL) Anyway, I kinda want to build a ramp like that if I had my chickens a place inside my house seperated from me. Wouldnt that be stinky though?
I think you were making a joke of sorts here, but just to be clear: that is a ramp into a chicken coop, not into a house. The only animals in the house are dogs, cats (and, well people, if you accept that human beings are animals, too). And the chicken coop does smell bad.
Just a little joke. What I meant is if you could seperate a portion of your house and make a hallway going to the room. (get this in mind-seperated by wall all the way up) Not for the chickens to be free ranging in the house! But, I guess the chicken coop is attached to the house in the video?
That's just foul.......
